Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
More about Beldam...
Games: Paper Mario The Thousand-Year Door
Beldam is the leader of the Shadow
Sirens loyal to the Shadow Queen in the Thousand-Year Door. The Shadow
Sirens carried out a plan to have all the Crystal Stars collected so that
the Shadow Queen could be revived. They probably clued Grodus and
the X-Nauts in on their existence, and in my mind (no evidence for it),
I think the Shadow Sirens may have either given Grodus, or led him to,
the first Crystal Star, the one they have before the adventure starts.
I also suspect that Beldam may have been disguised as the merchant who
gave Peach the treasure chest containing the magical map. Beldam
probably engineered this plan all on her own, considering Marilyn doesn’t
seem very bright and Vivian seemed to have no clue what was going on.
Beldam’s own allies may take the worst of her wrath – she is especially adept at losing things and blaming others – but when in battle she can attack with pesky magic, especially ice-based attacks that can freeze. Her attacks can be troubling, but they’re not that powerful and her stamina is not that high so I generally find it best to take her out first. A master of delegation, Beldam takes no shame in hiding in the back. Although Beldam and the Shadow Sirens were twice defeated by Mario, it really didn’t hinder their plan any, and the battles were probably only even held so that Beldam could feign loyalty to the X-Nauts. The ending of PM2 suggests that the Shadow Sirens have turned over a new leaf, but Beldam doesn’t seem the type to just start being nice to people. If she doesn’t try once more to revive her queen, she might think about flexing some power herself…
