Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
More about Gus...
Games: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Gus is a member of the ill-fated Robbo Gang,
which by far plays second fiddle to the Pianta Syndicate in Rogueport of
The Thousand-Year Door. He stands guard on the path leading to the
Trouble Center, in back of which is the Robbo Gang's HQ. He'll only
let you pass if you pay him - or beat him up. Potentially he can
be your second battle of the game, after only the easy battle against Lord
Crump. If you fight him at this point, given your low level he's
actually one of the most dangerous fights in the game. But it can
be won. Goombella is useless now since she can only headbonk and,
with his spear, he is considered spiked, so put her up front and have her
defend. Mario should use hammer attacks from the back, but beware:
he's not safe from attack just because he's in back, as Gus can throw his
spear. If you don't trust your blocking skills you'd better buy a
Mushroom or two from the shop before challenging him.
Once defeated, Gus abandons his post for good and you're free to travel to and from the Travel Center. He'll spend the rest of the game in the Robbo HQ complaining about the trashing you gave him.
