One of rather a few shapeshifters in
the Mario Universe, Shadoo's true form is unknown as she has only ever
been seen copying Mario or one of his friends. Found at the bottom
of Flopside's Pit of 100 Trials, she may not actually be such a great identify
thief, considering she always remains black rather than looking exactly
like her victim, as Doopliss or Mimi can do. Also, it seems like
it takes her time to be able to digest information to be able to copy someone
- when Mario first reached the bottom of the Pit, Shadoo sent him away,
challenging him to return. Only when Mario made it down again did
Shadoo engage him in battle. Without any clear reason having been
stated for this stall tactic, I choose to believe that Shadoo, some kind
of sentient shadow, used the time to mould herself into Mario and his friends.
While she may not be the best at shapeshifting, she is able to copy his
victim's abilities well and is very resilient, certainly putting up a good
fight against the heroes after they had already been weakened by the trials
of the Pit.
Shadoo's journey through the Sports Hall has certainly been unique. She first appeared in Season Seven, where she crushed the competition in Round One in unprecedented fashion, and just about cruised into the finals. There she was beaten for the season title by Anti Guy, a Sports Hall elite in his own right. After thumbing her nose on Season Eight, Shadoo returned in Season Nine and got off to a fast start by overcoming Chuckolator and Cackletta. At that time her rank rose as high as 8th, and the sky seemed the limit with victory against her next opponent, the untested but presumably weak Microgoomba, seemingly assured. But in the Sports Hall nothing is for certain, and Shadoo's astounding strength suddenly left her, leaving her to be defeated by one of the least deadly foes in the entire Mario Universe. Shadoo's rank also nearly doubled with the loss. Hope was not lost, as a victory in her four-way Round Two match would have shot Shadoo right back up to rank 8. This looked to be a difficult feat with Roy himself also in the ring. And yet, it was not Roy, but Cackletta, once the worst ranked fighter ever and a fighter whom Shadoo had already defeated, who emerged victorious as Shadoo was dealt a second embarrassing defeat.
Despite this setback, Shadoo is still seeded 17th for the Season Ten Tournament. She picked himself up off the tarp with a victory over Grodus in the first round, though she certainly did not do so with the same ease with which she won her first few fights. But perhaps having grabbed the momentum, she had little trouble showing up Yoob in the second round and continues to remain alive in the tournament. Her next opponent will be either Mr. L or Tutankoopa. Based on rank the Koopa pharoah should be preferred opponent, but she might like a chance to show Mr. L why it is she who should have been the champion of Season Eight.
