Epilogue
Lakitu was sleeping sick in his cloud in the tiny mushroom cottage that he now shared with Tineeko. It had taken weeks for them to raise enough coins to buy it between the money from the go-kart tracks and from bashing blocks at every opportunity. It was worth it, though, to get out of Toad's house and into some rooms where they had some elbow room.
Lakitu was tossing and turning due to his numerous aches and pains, which had made it hard for him to get to sleep. On top of that, he heard a little girl's voice crying out, "Help! Somebody help me!" Lakity then suddenly woke up. That was no dream! Tineeko was at the race tracks, so he would have to do this himself.
"I'm coming!" He shot down the hall and towards the door in the cloud, almost forgetting to open it in his rush. After following the sound for a little bit, he saw a snickering Goomba at the shore of a small pond with a little girl foundering in the middle of it. He swooped down to her and snatched her up. "Gotcha!" He carried her to shore and drove the Goomba off.
"How can I thank you, sir?" asked the little girl. As it turned out, all that action was too fast or this flu to handle, if you get my drift. "Ew! You're sick, aren't you? Here, let me help you --"
"No, no, that's (cough) all right," Lakitu insisted.
"No, really. Let me bring you home."
After they got to Lakitu's house, which was just next door to Toad's, the little girl began to look him over.
"Hey, you're a Koopa, aren't you?"
"No, I'm a Wytortiel."
"A why-what?"
"Never mind. Look, just tell your friends that they don't have to be scared of me, or my friend Tineeko, or Pettaru. Okay?"
The girl paused. "Okay." She shook his hand, then skipped off to resume her play. "Wytortiel," Lakitu muttered to himself. "What does that mean for me, anyway? What is this 'Wytortiel gift' Mom said I'd received so strongly? What was shetrying to tell me?" He thought for a moment, then just waved it off and went inside to wash out his mouth and go back to sleep.
