Legend of the Sun

By Pichu

5,000 years ago...

On a peaceful planet known as Plit, during the Koopa-Mushroom wars, an ancient ghost of evil was accidently created by a wizard in the far-off reaches of the desert. This ghost, who called himself Hafloa, started wreaking havoc and destroying villages. The knights sought the help of the wizard, and he used a special stone, the Grand Sun, to seal Hafloa into a crystal orb, then buried it underground, where no one would be able to find it. Unfortunately, the Grand Sun can be used for evil, so the wizard broke the Grand Sun into seven pieces and scattered them across the planet. Everyone thought they were safe... but they were wrong...

Chapter 1: The Danger Begins...
Present Day...

"HELP!"

Mario huffed as he ran down Mushroom Way. Peach had been kidnapped AGAIN so he jumped to the rescue, interrupting the preparation of his dinner. He'd seen Bowser grab her and gave chase immediately, but Bowser still had a good head start. Mario trampled a few Goombas, kicked some Troopas, and eventually Bowser accidently tripped when he looked behind him to make sure Mario didn't catch up. Bowser was slow to get up, so Mario was able to cover the distance separating the two. "I give! The girl's yours!" Bowser whimpered.

Mario carried Peach onto his back so she didn't get hurt. Peach sighed in relief. She hadn't been imprisoned this time, but any kidnapping is still a big deal! "Where's Yoshi when you need him?" Mario huffed.

"It doesn't matter, Mario, what's important is you saved me. Thanks!" Peach kissed him on the... hat. That was embarrassing. She was aiming for his cheek. but whatever.

Their journey at an end, Mario put Peach on the couch in the house of their friend Toad. Toad hugged her with tears streaming down his face. "Peach! I was so worried- okay, the Chancellor was worried. We thought Bowser had succeeded!" Toad sobbed.

Peach smiled. "I'm okay, thanks to Mario."

Mario plopped onto a rocking chair and went to sleep. He must have run a mile, not to mention carrying Peach. Yet another saving the day business all done... but little did Mario realize...

Meanwhile, in Desert Land...

"Okay, my boys! Dig!"

Kolorado had once again gone out on an expedition, this time to find a mystical orb he read about in an ancient book last night while Kate was asleep. He jumped out of the house and rounded his team up. Too bad he hadn't noticed the fine print about why that orb had been buried...

"Phew!" One of his teammates wiped his brow (How can Koopas have eyebrows?), causing a big drop of sweat hit the hot sand.

"Hey! What are we, Goombas or Koopas? Keep digging!" Kolorado acted meaner ever since he forgot to tell Kate in Paper Mario about the Crystal Palace.

The sweaty teammate looked at Kolorado as though he were crazy. "Is that a rhetorical question?" he asked.

"Did I tell you to stop and say something? DIG!" Kolorado fumed.

Just then, a shovel hit something made of glass. Could it be...?

They had dug six feet under the sand since this morning. The shovel picked up the orb, glowing a purple color and shaking violently! It had a crack in it from the shovel's strike.

"We found it!" Kolorado danced excitedly, and boy, can he dance! But the celebration didn't last long.

"MWAHAHAHAHA!"

Kolorado shivered in fear. "What was that?"

"I AM..."

The crack weakened the seal that protected the monster from escaping, so he is now...

"FREE!"

Stop finishing my sentences! Anyway, a purple ghost shot out of the orb and looked at Kolorado as the rest of his team ran away, unbeknownst to the archeaologist.

"YOU HAVE FREED ME, KOLORADO! AND NOW..."

He waved his arms.

"YOU SHALL SUFFER!"

He shot a ray of magic at Kolorado, transforming him to stone!

"AND NOW I SHALL WREAK HAVOC ONCE AGAIN! AND THERE IS NO ONE WHO CAN STOP ME!" Hafloa the ghost flew away, leaving a stone Kolorado behind.

Chapter 2: Investigations Come Alive

The next morning, Toad was the first to awaken in the house. As he got in the bathroom for the toilet (he has a daily bathroom schedule), the doorbell rang. He had to hold it in for a while, as he walked downstairs and opened the door.

"Hi Toad," Kate greeted.

"Hey Kate. How's Kolorado?" Toad asked.

Kate huffed angrily. "He went off to do some investigatin' and didn't tell me where he went. I was wondering, could you and your friends head off to the desert? When I found him missing this morning, Kooper told me that he took the next train to Mt. Rugged. He's pretty sure he's going to start another expedition to Dry Dry Ruins, which by the way, Mario already found."

In the desert...

Mario happily enjoyed the breezy, warm air. He and his friends were able to get a ride on the train. You may not know this, but Desert Land is far to the south of Dry Dry Desert... I think.

"Are we there yet?" Luigi whined.

Okay, Mario and Co hitched a ride from Yoshi's friendly service, and the team had to pay four extra tickets for the four Yoshis,so they could go to Desert Land without walking on their feet.

"For the last time, Luigi, NO!" Toad yelled.

It wasn't far until they spotted one of Kolorado's teammates running in a panicked state.

"Oh, Mario! Thank goodness you’re here! Me and Kolorado and his teammates were trying to find the orb of something, and when we found it, a ghost shot out and turned Kolorado to stone!" the teammate panted frantically.

Mario said, "Calm down, exactly where is Kolorado now?"

A few minutes later, the gang found the now stone Kolorado. Luigi tapped on it a little. "Yep, he’s a rock.

Peach huffed. This desert sun was getting hotter and hotter by the minute. "This heat’s unbearable!"

Mario frustratedly yelled, "Will you stop saying that? Now you sound like a broken record, as for the complaints we heard in the past half hour!"

Luigi stepped in. "Guys, control yourselves! We're here to find out what turned Kolorado to stone, not to find a reason to fight.

At Merlon's...

Merlon was busy dusting his crystal ball when he heard a knock on the door.

"Go away!" he yelled.

"But it's-a me, Mario!"

Old joke.

"Ah, yes, sorry. Come on in." Merlon cheerfully opened the door. As the group walked in while carrying the statue of Kolorado, he slammed the door and seated everyone.

"What can I do for you?" he asked.

Mario was the first to speak, after gesturing to the statue. "One of his teammates said a ghost shot out of the orb when they dug it up and did this to him. I don't know exactly who, but do you know what... or who... is responsible?"

Merlon looked at it, then sighed. "Was anyone watching when he became like this?"

Mario said, "One of his teammates said a ghost shot out of the orb when they dug it up and did this."

Merlon almost choked. " A ghost?! From an orb?! Oh crud, I hope this hasn't happened NOW!"

Peach became unusually worried. "What happened?"

Merlon went to the basement with everyone else. He took out a book and turned the pages until he stopped at one of them.

"This!"
