Today… I will tell you the story of Toshroom. When Mario, Peach, Toadsworth, and the Toad servants left for a vacation on Isle Delphino and Luigi left for a vacatiom in Sarasaland, Toad and Toadette were in charge of Princess Peach’s Castle. Toshroom, the toughest Toad in the world and the head guard in Princess Peach’s Castle, was also in charge. Toshroom decided that this was a great time to betray the Mushroom Kingdom… and he convinced the guards to fight by his side to take over Princess Peach’s Castle. Toad and Toadette saw this and fought Toshroom and his army of guards. It was a long and tough battle, but Toad and Toadette eventually defeated Toshroom and convinced the guards to protect Princess Peach’s Castle again. Their victory spread across the Mushroom Kingdom and all over the news. When Mario and company came back from their vacation, they heard that Toad and Toadette had stopped Toshroom from taking over Princess Peach’s Castle. At first they didn’t believe this, but when they found out that Toshroom was gone and that Toad and Toadette had become famous, they were convinced. After a while, though, Toad and Toadette’s popularity died down a little bit. They are still famous, though, and people treat them with more respect and still think of them as heroes.
Well, some people do...
In the main plaza of Toad Town…
Toad: I know Peach is ruler and all, but can’t she just go and get the dresses herself? Besides, the dresses we’re looking for are exactly the same as her other ones anyway!
Toadette: Well at least she sent both of us to get the dresses for her!
???: Aren’t you Toad and Toadette?
Toadette: Why, yes we are!
????: And you two are servants of Peach, right?
Toad: Yeah.
???: We are servants ourselves!
Toad: Wow, somebody who knows how I feel!
Toadette: Whose servants are you?
????: That’s not important right now. We would like to talk to you.
PAPER MARIO: TOSHROOM RETURNS
CHAPTER 1: THE MYSTERIOUS E-MAIL
In Mario and Luigi’s house…
Mario: (in bed) Ahh, what a wonderful day, huh Luigi?
Luigi: (in bed) Yeah, when a day is this great, nothing can go wrong.
At that moment, the Peach Email tone plays on the Mailbox SP.
Mario: Oh great, what could she possibly want?
Mario opens up the Mailbox SP and reads Peach’s Email.
Mario! Luigi! There is trouble in the main plaza of Toad Town! Go there at once! Sincerely, Peach.
Mario: Luigi! There’s trouble in Toad Town!
Luigi: Where?
Mario: In the main plaza!
Luigi: Then let's-a go!
Mario and Luigi leave their house and go to the main plaza in Toad Town, where they see Toad and Toadette and two Goombas with muscular arms and legs, brown gloves, and brown shoes and who are as big as a regular Toad. One of them has a spiked helmet on his head while the other one has wings.
Spiky Musoomba: We are two of the great generals of Toshroom, and we came here to say, you have 24 hours to surrender to us, or else we will send our army to force you to!
Paramusoomba: Remember, you have 24 hours!
Spiky Musoomba and Paramusoomba run/fly west of the main plaza while Toad and Toadette run to Princess Peach’s Castle in fear.
Mario: What was that all about?
Luigi: I don’t know, but we’ve got to stop them. Come on!
Before they can move the anonymous Email tone plays on the Mailbox SP.
Mario: Wow, an anonymous Email! We haven't had any of those since the Glitz Pit!
Mario reads the Email.
You have heard of Toshroom, correct? If you want to stop him and save the world, follow my instructions. In order to have a better chance of finding and defeating Toshroom, first you must defeat the six generals that follow him. The first two generals are located in Goomba Village. I suggest you go there as soon as possible. From Sthoroom.
Mario: Sthoroom?
Luigi: That’s a weird name.
Mario: Sthoroom says that the two generals we saw earlier are heading towards Goomba Village.
Luigi: That means we have to cross Goomba Road.
Mario: I have been there before, no big deal at all.
Luigi: Well I hope it will stay that way when we arrive. Who knows what those generals might do?
Mario: Well, we have to go there as soon as possible.
Mario and Luigi go to Goomba Road.
Mario: Wow! It has gotten, uh, bigger, and there are more trees.
Luigi: Looks normal to me.
Suddenly Goombas pop out from behind the trees.
Mario: Well, there’s more Goombas, I’ll give them that.
The ten Goombas' HP: 2
Mario and Luigi face the ten Goombas.
One tries to run into Mario, but he hammers it before it even has a chance.
Goomba’s HP: 0
The Goomba is down.
Mario: How are you doing, Luigi?
Luigi has destroyed five Goombas, but
the other four prepare to run into Luigi. Luigi jumps on one Goomba.
Goomba’s HP: 0
The Goomba is down.
Luigi: Yahoo!
A Goomba runs into Luigi.
Luigi’s HP: 9
Luigi: Ow!
Mario and Luigi jump on two Goombas.
Goombas' HP: 0
The two Goombas are down.
Mario: One more to go!
Luigi: I got this one!
Luigi hammers the last Goomba.
Goomba’s HP: 0
The Goomba is down.
The Mario Bros. continue on through Goomba Road. They jump on the three ledges, cross the bridge, go down the hill, and then see Spiky Musoomba and Paramusoomba.
Spiky Musoomba: Hey, aren’t you Mario and Luigi?
Paramusoomba: Yes, they are! They look exactly like what Toshroom described!
Spiky Musoomba: In that case, let's get them!
Spiky Musoomba’s HP: 5
Paramusoomba’s HP: 5
Mario: There they are!
Luigi: I’ll go for the one with wings.
Mario: And I’ll go for the one with the spiked helmet.
Spiky Musoomba punches Mario.
Mario’s HP: 7
Mario: Youch!
Mario hammers Spiky Musoomba.
Spiky Musoomba’s HP: 3
Spiky Musoomba: I’m not through yet!
Luigi jumps on Paramusoomba.
Paramusoomba’s HP: 3
Paramusoomba drops on top of Luigi.
Luigi’s HP: 6
Luigi: I’m almost in Danger!
Mario hammers Spiky Musoomba.
Spiky Musoomba’s HP: 1
Luigi jumps on Paramusoomba.
Paramusoomba’s HP: 1
Paramusoomba: Gaaah!
Mario hammers Spiky Musoomba just as
Luigi jumps on Paramusoomba.
Spiky Musoomba’s HP: 0
Spiky Musoomba is down.
Paramusoomba’s HP: 0
Paramusoomba is down.
Mario: Yippee!
Paramusoomba: Don’t think we’re finished yet!
Spiky Musoomba: Let’s get out of here!
Spiky Musoomba and Paramusoomba both run away.
Mario: We can’t let ‘em get away!
Mario and Luigi go after Spiky Musoomba and Paramusoomba. They pick up a Fire Flower along the way, and continue on until five Spiky Goombas come out of the trees.
Spiky Goombas' HP: 2
Luigi: Time to use it.
Luigi uses the Fire Flower on all five
Spiky Goombas.
Spiky Goombas' HP: 0
The five Spikey Goombas are down.
Mario and Luigi continue on until five
Paragoombas come out of the trees. Mario jumps on a Paragoomba just as
Luigi jumps on another Paragoomba.
Paragoombas' HP: 0
The two Paragoombas are down.
Just then a Paragoomba flies into Mario.
Mario’s HP: 6
Mario jumps on that Paragoomba.
Paragoomba’s HP: 0
The Paragoomba is down.
Luigi: I’ve already taken care of one Paragoomba, Mario. You can take care of the last one.
Mario jumps on the last Paragoomba.
Paragoomba’s HP: 0
The Paragoomba is down.
Mario and Luigi continue and reach Goomba Village.
Mario: Wow! It has gotten bigger! There are houses everywhere! It even has a shop now!
Luigi: I’m tired, Mario; can we take a break?
Mario: Sure! There’s a Heart Block over there, let's use it.
Mario and Luigi hit the Heart Block, and they replenish their HP.
Goombario: Hi, Mario!
Mario: Hey, Goombario, have you seen two strange Goomba-like generals around here?
Goombario: You mean the ones with muscular arms, legs, gloves, and everything? Yeah, I saw them! They headed towards the woods.
Luigi: Thanks!
Mario and Luigi go to the woods area of Goomba Village. They see more houses and eventually reach Jr. Troopa’s base, which now has a few houses too.
Luigi: There they are!
Spiky Musoomba: Waaah! I can’t believe you followed us all the way here!
Paramusoomba: However, your luck just ran out.
Mario: What do they mean by that?
Spiky Musoomba and Paramusoomba fuse into one general who is as big as Bowser and has a spiked helmet and wings.
Spiky Paramusoomba: Now it's our turn!
Spiky Paramusoomba’s HP: 10
Luigi: How are we supposed to beat him? He has wings AND a spike helmet at the same time!
Spiky Paramusoomba prepares to rapid punch Luigi.
Mario: I got it!
Mario hammers Spiky Paramusoomba before
he can unleash his strongest attack.
Spiky Paramusoomba’s HP: 8
Spiky Paramusoomba: Interfering, eh? Take this, punk!
Spiky Paramusoomba punches Mario.
Mario’s HP: 5
Mario: OW!
Luigi then hammers Spiky Paramusoomba
before he can fly out of reach.
Spiky Paramusoomba’s HP: 6
Spiky Paramusoomba then flies back up in the air.
Spiky Paramusoomba: Ha! You can’t hurt me now, losers!
Spiky Paramusoomba tries to do his drop
attack, but Mario and Luigi get out of the way just in time. Then Mario
and Luigi both hammer him at the same time.
Spiky Paramusoomba’s HP: 2
Spiky Paramusoomba then flies back up
in the air. He flies to where Mario and Luigi are, then tries to do his
drop attack again. Mario gets out of the way, but Luigi is hit.
Luigi’s HP: 4
Luigi: OW!
Mario: Take-a this!
Mario hammers Spiky Paramusoomba.
Spiky Paramusoomba’s HP: 0
Spiky Paramusoomba: How could you beat
me?! I have a higher attack power!
Spiky Paramusoomba is down.
Goombario walks over to Mario and Luigi.
Goombario: Hey guys! I found these powerful items but I don’t think they will work on me, so you can have them.
Goombario gives Mario and Luigi the Super Boots and Super Hammers. Mario and Luigi hold them up high.
END OF CHAPTER! And so, Spiky Musoomba and Paramusoomba were defeated by Mario and Luigi. However, there are four generals left to find. Where are they, and better yet, who is Sthoroom?
