Mario Bros. and the Case of the Missing Princesses

By Ice Toad

Toad sat there, as still as can be. He hadn't moved much since they'd left Yoshi. They were now in search of someone new for the team. They had the brains, Goombella and Toadette. They had the heroes, Mario and Luigi. And they had Toad. He had his own category. He had grown a lot since they had set off on their adventure. He had gained a lot of courage. They were missing one thing. The Yoshi. The humor and power. Yoshi was there when they'd needed him. But now he was gone. They all knew they couldn't replace Yoshi, but they could at least get close.

"Any islands? Mario asked.

Luigi looked around from the crow's nest, hoping to find an island.

"No..." Luigi replied.

Goombella and Toadette were in the back room studying the Boo research, the hologram, and the golden-eyed mystery research.

"Do you think they all have a link to each other?" Toadette asked Goombella.

"Most likely, but I'm not sure about Angel, though. Neither Yoshi nor Birdo have wings or golden, glowing eyes. I can't see how that could link in..." Goombella replied.

"An island!" Luigi shouted.

Toad jumped up, and Toadette and Goombella ran out of their room. The island looked extremely familiar. There was a mountaintop shaped like the head of an ape.

"DK Island!" Toadette shouted, leaning over the edge of the ship.

Mario quickly slowed the ship while Toad anchored it.

They all got off the ship. The beach was beautiful and totally tropical, with a waterfall and banana trees galore.

"I wonder if Donkey Kong is around..." Mario thought out loud.

They all saw a figure swinging from vine to vine. It landed on a tree, grabbed a banana, an ran in the direction of Mario and the rest. It was a little, female chimp. She had blonde hair, a pink shirt, and a pink cap.

"Dixie Kong!" Luigi shouted.

Dixie ran up to them, really excited to see them.

"Hey guys!" she said while eating the banana. "What brings you all here?"

"Well, the princesses have been captured... again," Mario told her.

"And it's not Bowser this time... Well, it is technically..." Toadette added.

"I don't understand. How can it be Bowser, but not be Bowser?" Dixie asked.

"Toadette and I are working on a solution for that..." Goombella answered.

"But Yoshi had other things to tend to... so now we're in search of a new member," Toad added.

"I'd be happy to join you, but I belong to the DK Crew," she told them.

"The DK Crew?" Mario asked.

"Please... I beg you... Please don't make me rap..." Dixie pleaded, rolling her eyes.

"Rap?" Then Toadette remembered. "No thanks."

"Come on. I'll take you to the tree house." Dixie began to run through the jungle, followed by the rest.

Dixie Kong was fast. It was hard for them to keep up. Eventually, after swinging from vines, climbing, and jumping from tree to tree, they had finally reached the tree house. There was a sign that read "DK Kroow".

They walked in. Diddy Kong and Tiny Kong were presently in the room, looking around.

"Where is everyone?" Dixie asked Tiny.

"Exactly our question," Tiny replied.

"Who else is there?" Toad asked.

"Please don't make me rap..." Diddy replied.

"No thanks!" Toadette hastily replied once again.

"Where do you think they went?" Goombella asked.

"No idea," Tiny Kong replied. "You think King K. Rool is back?"

"Could be..." Diddy replied.

"Well, if it is King K. Rool, we'll be prepared," Dixie added.

"Well, we need our weapons to be prepared," Diddy stated.

"True... To Funky Kong's shop!" Tiny shouted, running out the door, followed by Diddy Kong.

Dixie began to head to the door, then turned to Mario. "You coming? We'll need all the help we could get. Especially since the DK Crew, well most of it, is missing."

"I guess so. Looks like the princesses aren't the only things on our hands now," Mario replied.

Dixie nodded, then beckoned them to follow her. They eventually caught up with Tiny Kong and Diddy Kong, who were being attacked by a Krimling.

Tiny Kong did a backflip kick, which hit the Krimling in the jaw. She then began to use her hair as a helicopter, and flew into a nearby orange tree.

Diddy pulled out his jetpack. He began to fly around in circles, which made the Kremling dizzy. Diddy then flew into his gut, and flew into another orange tree, then nodded at Dixie Kong.

Dixie pulled out her guitar. She strumed it, causing a loud, obnoxious noise to come out of it. This made the Kremling's eardrums burst. He tried to hold his ears, but the noise wouldn't stop. Dixie then jumped into another orange tree, and nodded at both Tiny and Diddy.

"Go!" Tiny Kong shouted.

They began to throw oranges at the Kremling. These weren't any old oranges, they were explosive. The explosion sent him flying through the air. From the background they heard a splash. Apparently, he had fallen into the water.

"Yeah!" Dixie shouted in glory

"We did it!" Diddy gave Tiny Kong a high-five.

"Awesome teamwork..." Mario spoke to himself.

Eventually, they reached Funky Kong's Shop.

"Far out! What brings you awesome dudes here?" Funky Kong asked them.

"Just a little stop," Mario told him, shrugging.

Tiny Kong opened her mouth to explain to Funky about the DK Crew, when Mario interrupted her. "Nice job... you know... back there and all."

"It was nothing..." Diddy replied to him, scratching the the back of his head.

"We, could've done better though," Dixie said, glaring at the other two Kongs.

"Better? How could you possibly do any better? We were thinking. We really want- need you to join us on our 'adventure'," Mario stated.

"No. You were thinking..." Goombella said under her breath, rolling her eyes sarcastically.

"I told you. We belong to the DK Crew," Dixie answered with frustration in her voice.

"The DK Crew?!" Funky interupted. "That rap is totally tubular!"

"Oh no..." Tiny Kong covered her ears. "Don't get him started!"

"Too late..." Diddy rolled his eyes, covering his ears as well.

"H-Hi- Here we go!"

Funky's desk turned into a mixer. Dixie threw an explosive orange at it. BOOM! So... Funky was knocked out
for a while.

"Okay. Now that that's over..." Dixie got her weapon off the rack behind Funky's blown-to-pieces counter. It was a slingshot. She got her ammo from under the remains of Funky's counter, which happened to be bananas. Tiny and Diddy did the same. Tiny Kong's weapon was a bow and feathers. Diddy's were two peanut shooting pistols.

"You all should get weapons too. You can have the rest of the DK Crew's weapons," Dixie told Mario and his friends. "Mario, you can take Donkey Kong's coconut gun, and Luigi can take Chunky's pineapple bazooka." Dixie motioned them to the weapons, which were hanging on a rack on the side of the room, "Toadette, you take Crazy's grape blow gun. Toad can have Kiddie's kiwi sniper." Dixie handed out the remaining weapons.

"...  And me?" Goombella asked, disappointed that there were no more weapons left.

"You can have my stash of explosive oranges." Dixie handed Goombella a backpack filled with the oranges she promised. Goombella put the backpack on her back.

"Let's go," Tiny Kong demanded, walking out of the shop. They all followed.
