Chapter 29: As Average as Hail in the Summer
The elevator stops and Mario exits to Grodus.
Mario: Grodus!
Grodus: You. I had no doubt that someday you'd get here. I prepared for this. I prepared to take you down. I may no longer be evil but I can still vicously blast your Koopamon around.
Mario: You're the final of the Elite Four.
Grodus just grins.
Grodus: That comment was last valid a week ago.
Mario: What does that mean?
Grodus: I had been beaten by one... You should know him.
Mario: I know everyone I had to challenge. Can we start?
Grodus: Three-on-three?
Mario: Okay.
Grodus: Okay then.... BEGIN! GO CLUBBA!
Mario: GO HOT FOOT!
Grodus: IRON POUND!
Mario: INTENSIFY!
Clubba pulls back his club and Hot Foot's body flame shoots up and ignites the club. Clubba bashes Hot Foot across the room and throws his club into Hot Foot.
Mario: HEAT WAVE!
Hot Foot launches huge flame waves into Clubba, throwing him through the air and into the ground in front of Grodus.
Grodus: ICE BEAM!
Clubba fires the beam of ice into Hot Foot, freezing him.
Mario: Melt the ice and quick.
Clubba walks in slow motion towards Hot Foot as the ice slowly melts. Clubba retrieves his club as Grodus yells a comand.
Grodus: VIOLENT STRIKE!
Clubba slams the ice with full force, blowing Hot Foot into a knockout.
Mario: Return! GO AMEBOID!
Grodus: ZAP CANNON!
Mario: DODGE AND HYDRO PUMP!
The blast blows Clubba into a knockout.
Grodus: RETURN! GO TANOOMBA!
Mario: ICE BEAM!
Grodus: TRANSFORM!
Tanoomba becomes a block of ice and the ice beam hits to no effect.
Mario: What in the name of DAD? HYDRO PUMP!
Grodus: TRANSFORM!
Tanoomba turns into a giant flower and it absorbs the hit and grows bigger before going turning back to Tanoomba.
Mario: What the? SPLIT UP!
Ameboid splits into three. Mario grins.
Grodus: MUD SPORT!
Tanoomba splatters mud onto the Ameboids, blinding them.
Mario: Dang!
Grodus: Tail Bash!
Tanoomba closes in.
Mario: ICE BEAM, HYDRO PUMP, AND SWIFT!
Grodus: TRANSFORM!
Tanoomba becomes a block of iron and the attacks bounce off. Mario notices that the block of iron still has Tanoomba's tail.
Mario: ONE AMEBOID IN FRONT AND BEHIND. ICE BEAM, FRONT ONE!
Grodus: Transform.
Tanoomba becomes a block of ice.
Mario: Swift, back one.
Grodus: OH NO!
The swift blows away at the tail until Tanoomba drops out.
Grodus: Return! Good one, Mario. What my idea was is to show people that normal Koopamon don't stink.
Mario: They don't. A normal Koopamon has access to almost every type of attack, with all decent or above average stats with a rare chance of low stats.
Grodus: Well you knocked away my Koopamon as if they were mere pieces of decomposed human remains.
Mario: A bit over-exagerated, but it is true.
Grodus: Aside the point. I must win and here is what I'll do! GO HANDFAKE!
Grodus releases a black, rubber glove that is stuck to the ground.
Mario: UUUuummmmmmm... Okay. HYDRO PUMP!
Grodus: Detour Sign!
Handfake pulls out a sign with an arrow pointing at a wall, and the hydro pump oddly is redirected into that wall.
Mario: What in the name of DAD was that?
Grodus: Toxic Sign!
Handfake pulls out a sign with a skull and crossbones on it, and Ameboid turns purple.
Mario: What the? HYDRO PU...
Grodus: Paralyze Sign!
Handfake pulls a sign with a Goomba strapped down and Ameboid freezes on the spot.
Mario: WHAT THE?
Ameboid drops from the poison.
Mario: HOW?
Grodus: Normal will never stink.
Mario: That is NOT normal!
Grodus: Nothing that knocks a person's Koopmon out is normal to that trainer, but it's as fair as any other knockout. Power overcomes weakness.
Mario: Grrrr! RETURN! GO B BASS!
Grodus: Toxic Sign!
Boss Bass turns purple.
Mario: Not already. GO FAST, B BASS, I KNOW WHAT TO DO! HYDRO PUMP THE FLOOR IN FRONT OF IT!
Grodus: Detour Sign!
The blast hits the floor and bounces up into Handfake and causes the Detour Sign to fly across the room.
Grodus: Sword Sign.
Handfake pulls out a sign with a sword on it, and a bunch of swords fly at Boss Bass!
Mario: NOW! HYDRO PUMP!
The blast knocks out the swords and hits out Handfake.
Grodus: Return! Well... you won. Congrats. You have my best wishes for your win over the Champ. Just don't let who he is get to you.
Mario: I won't, and thank you. See you when I win or lose.
Mario goes to the elevator.
Grodus: Sibling rivalry at its finest...
That very line
puts Mario in shock as the elevator door closes.
Chapter 30: Airborne Finale
The elevator stops and opens. Mario enters a room with two video computers and an elevator on the floor the goes to a hole in the ceiling to the starry night sky. A video turns on to show it's a comunicator to the main desk, while the other computer connects to E. Gadd. Mario runs to the screen with E. Gadd.
Mario: E. Gadd, what is this all about?
E. Gadd: Well, Mario, this is a bit different. You see, you need six Koopamon and you are allowd to pick which ones from every one you own. Now I suppose you're using Boss Bass. Right?
Mario: Yes!
E. Gadd: Send your others over by the teleporter below the screen.
Mario does so.
E. Gadd: Now Mario, which five of your Koopamon would you like to use?
Mario: Oh boy oh boy. I want to use my... Para-Worm, Glurp, Goomba King, Thwack Totem, and my... Boomerang Bro.
E. Gadd: Are you sure?
Mario: Yes!
E. Gadd: Okay. Good luck, Mario. I hope you do it.
The Koopaballs arrive and Mario goes to computer two.
Mario: Hi guys.
Smithy: Mario. Congrats on getting that far. And listen...
Peach: We know who the Champ is.
Mario: Yeah, I have a faint thought myself.
Roy: Well, good luck in any case. Go get him, G.
Mario: I will.
All Three: Good luck, Mario.
Mario: Bye.
Mario gets on the elevator, which goes up and fills the hole in the roof. Mario sees a cloaked figure on a green mat at the back of the roof top. The figure points to a red mat at the front. Mario steps on it and all is silent.
Mario: ... Are you who I think you are?
The figure nods.
Mario: ... You didn't even become a trainer 'til a month after me. How did you get here?
The figure stands up.
????: Training, Mario, training! While you took breaks to make friends and compete in tournaments, I spent each day from sunrise to sunset training them!
Mario: Well... I guess I'll have a bit of a hard time here.
?????: Don't worry, Mario. I'll end this for you quickly. It's six-on-six.
Mario: Okay.
The figure pulls off his hood and the two smile at each other.
Mario: I'm going to win. I have to... I'm the older of us.
Luigi: OH COME ON! THAT EXCUSE IS TOO LAME! FOR ONCE AGE DOESN'T MATTER AND I'M PROVING IT TO YOU!
Mario: Hahahahaha!
Luigi: Shall we begin, Brother?
Mario: Yes, we should.
Luigi: Okay then... BEGIN!
The elevator hooks itself to the full roof and rises the roof up into the sky. The members of the Elite Four along with Mario's friends and the lady at the main desk gather outside and look up at the battlefield.
Luigi: GO LAKITU!
Mario: GO BOOMERANG BRO!
Luigi: HAIL!
Hail falls.
Mario: BOOMERANG CUTTER!
Boomerang Bro fires two giant boomerang-shaped blades at Lakitu.
Luigi: WEATHER BALL!
Lakitu launches a giant ball of ice forth and the boomerangs slice through it.
Luigi: SUNNY DAY!
The sun shines as the cutter lands a hit, throwing Lakitu back.
Luigi: WEATHER BALL!
Lakitu launches several fire balls at Boomerang Bro.
Mario: FLAMERANG!
Each attack hits the opponent severely, damaging them.
Mario: BOOMERANG CUTTER!
The cutters take out Lakitu!
Luigi: Return! GO TWEETER! DIVE!
Mario: CUT!
Tweeter goes so fast that it hits out Boomerang Bro before he can pull back his boomerang.
Mairo: Return! GO THWACK TOTEM!
Luigi: Interesting. HIDDEN POWER!
Tweeter fires out twirling flashing energy balls that hit Thwack Totem, emitting leaves.
Luigi: YES! IT CAME OUT GRASS! DO IT AGAIN!
Mario: TOTEM BEAM!
Thwack Totem spins, shooting beams that destroy the hidden power and blow Tweeter back.
Luigi: AERIAL ACE!
Tweeter disappears.
Mario: TOTEM BEAM!
The beams fire everywhere and one hits out Tweeter.
Luigi: Good! Return! GO AMAZING FLYING HAMMER BRO! HAMMER TOSS!
The Santa-like Hammer Bro on flying blocks begins raining down hammers.
Mario: NOOOO!
Thwack Totem is hit repeatedly until it goes out.
Mario: Return! GO GOOMBA KING!
Luigi: VOLT HAMMER!
AFHB begins swinging away at Goomba King.
Mario: SPIN KICK!
Goomba Kick jumps up and delivers tons of kicks on AFHB, causing it immense damage. The volt hammer, however, lands and paralyzes Goomba King.
Mario: YES... and NO!
Luigi: PRESENT!
AFHB drops a bag down and it blows up on Goomba King.
Mario: Can you get in a Royal Beam?
The Goomba King gets in a small beam that hits and knocks AFHB out, but Goomba King drops from the damage, too. Both recall their Koopamon.
Luigi: Three left each. Choose the next one wisely.
Mario: GO GLURP!
Luigi: GO SOUL BUBBLE!
Mario: ICE BEAM!
Luigi: HALO TRAP!
Soul Bubble dodges, then traps Glurp in halos, preventing it from switching.
Luigi: PERISH SONG!
Mario: NNNNOOOOO! STOP HIM! POISON GAS!
Clouds of poison hit Soul Bubble but it still peeforms the song.
Luigi: THUNDERWAVE!
Soul Bubble paralyzes Glurp.
Mario: Ice Beam.
The blast knocks Soul Bubble out.
Luigi: Return! GO LAKITUFO!
Mario: HYDRO PUMP!
The blast hits but perish song, having doomed Glurp, knocks it out.
Mario: RETURN! GO PARA-WORM!
A smile shows on Mario as he gets to view his first-caught Koopamon.
Luigi: Why so happy?
Mario: Para-Worm was my first captured Koopamon.
Luigi: Oh yeah! Lakitufo was my first capture.
Mario: Yeah, but this is only stalling the battle. SILVER WIND!
Luigi: FLASH LIGHT!
The silver wind blows and slices Lakitufo around while the light blinds Para-Worm.
Luigi: ABDUCT!
A beam comes from the bottom of the Koopamon and sucks Para-Worm in.
Luigi: Now your Para-Worm is going to be slowly knocked out and then it'll be one-on-two so th... WHAT?
Lakitufo is seen shaking and flying around while twirling in circles.
Mario: HYPER BEAM!
Luigi: OHHHHHH COME ON!
Lakitufo glows and an inner explosion occurs dropping Lakitufo down and out. Para-Worm is then released.
Luigi: This is it. Return! GO PIRANHA PLANET! BLADE POST!
Piranha Planet launches sign-like blades that resembling Piranha Plants at Para-Worm, knocking him out.
Mario: Return! GO B BASS!
Luigi: METEOR BALL!
Piranha Planet rolls meeors around and Boss Bass is hit several times in a row. Some of them hit Boss Bass and some don't.
Mario: ICE BEAM!
Luigi: METRONOME!
Piranha Planet perform Light Screen and blocks out most of the damage.
Luigi: COSMIC POWER!
The defensive ratings of Piranha Planet increase.
Mario: Hm... Cosmic Power, Metronome, Meteor Ball, and Blade Post. I need to remember their powers and how to dodge them.
Luigi: Heard that. COSMIC POWER!
Piranha Planet begins to raise its defensive stats to their max.
Mario: HYDRO PUMP AND HYPER BEAM!
The attacks hit right on but cause very low damage due to the maxed out defensive abilities.
Luigi: METRONOME!
Piranha Planet performs Thunderwave and paralyzes Boss Bass. He falls over, unable to move.
Mario: OH NNNOOOOOO!
Luigi: METRONOME!
Piranha Planet performs Hydro Pump. When it hits the pressure pushes Piranha Planet in the air over the side of the towertop. The blast doesn't do a whole bunch of damage due to water on contact with water.
Mario: GET UP! PLEASE!
Luigi: METRONOME!
Piranha Planet fires multiple poison stingers into Boss Bass. Boss Bass gets severely damaged.
Mario: PLEASE!
Luigi: METRONOME!
Piranha Planet performs a sword dance.
Luigi: Next one should do the trick.
Mario: PLEASE!
Boss Bass begins to slowly get up.
Luigi: METRONOME!
Piranha Planet performs Water Gun. It doesn't do much damage to Boss Bass but it is enough to knock him over. Boss Bass struggles to get up and is hanging on with very little power remaining. Luigi grins.
Luigi: Goodbye, Mario. METRONOME!
Mario: THIS IS IT.
Piranha Planet begins to flash as it sways back and forth.
Mario: Boss Bass, I'm sorry. We are done.
Luigi: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA... Huh...? NNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!
Luigi stares with his mouth hung open as light emits from Piranha Planet and it performs explosion. Due to the distance, Boss Bass isn't hit and Piranha Planet drops out. Mario hangs his mouth open. Meanwhile at the bottom...
Peach: That was one big blast.
Roy: I wondered what happened?
Daisy: Yeah!
Grodus: Is that it?
Kamek: I don't see any blasts or hear any voices anymore.
Smithy: Should we go up?
Bowyer: Go up we must.
Desk Lady: It's settled. You're going up there. I need to go back to the desk but I wish the best of you and hope that if it ended that it was Mario as the victor.
They run inside. Back on the top.
Luigi: Re...return!
Mario: Return!
Luigi: I... I can't believe that happened.
Mario: Me neither.
Luigi: Well, either way... you are the winner... You're the champ... of the whole kingdom and of the world... The last color in the Mario rainbow is complete.
Mario: YIPEE!
Luigi: You get it all... princess, fans, Koopamon Champ title, friends with enemies, more than a housesitter as a job. You got it all... but for once I'm not mad... I'm happy.
Luigi drops to his knees as the gang runs up.
Peach: Well?
Smithy and Roy: How did it go?
Elite Four: Did you win?
Mario turns to them and smiles.
Mario: YIPEE! I GOT IT!
The gang and Elite Four jump up and down, cheer, and hug Mario as Luigi hits a button and the elevator gains rockets and launches them through the air.
Luigi: Congratulations, Mario. We're going home.
Mario: I DID IT!
They cheer on Mario and the story comes to an end as they sail through the night sky.
