Chapter 1: All is Well

The Mushroom Kingdom, a vast, magical community of strange animals and dangers, lies in the middle of the ancient land of where no one knows. Bowser's castle is deserted, and only fungus, trees, and tons of dust flourish there.  All the Koopa Troopas disappeared, and no sign of them was seen anywhere.  Now, the people and animals celebrate because no one is threatening their lives, no one is hurting them, no one is making them do work.  Because of this, Princess Peach held a huge party at her enormous pink castle, and
invited everyone she saw. She couldn't find Mario, though.   Meanwhile, Mario himself was sitting in his great chair in his house made of straw, and didn't notice the party far away.  He was reading the newspaper, The Mushroom Times, and then looked out the window.

"Mama mia!  The party!" he yelled, as he dropped the newspaper on the floor and dashed out the door.

"I a-forgot!  Oh, good spaghetti!  Peach will be so a-angry at a-me!" he complained as he ran toward the castle, holding his hat so it won't fly away. Peach was standing on the balcony, looking toward the Kingdom, and then saw a small speck, which she immediately recognized as Mario.

"Mario!" she yelled, waiving a hand at him.

"Princess a-Peach!" he yelled back. He finally got to the castle, and was greeted by Luigi, Yoshi, and Toad.

"Where've ya been?" asked Toad, spilling some of his punch.

"Just forgot.  You got a-punch there?" Mario asked.

"Yes, if you want some, it's inside the main hall," said Toad, pointing to the huge doors that led inside the castle.

"Thank a-you.  I'll get some punch later," said Mario. Just then, Peach ran up to Mario and the others .

"Mario! There you are!  Where have you been?" she asked him, surprised.

"I forgot.  I'm a-sorry," Mario said.

"Oh, it's okay," replied Peach.

Suddenly, a thought popped into Mario's head. "Peach, will you go a-dancing with me?" he asked her.

Peach smiled, and her eyes lit up. "Of course, Mario," she said.

"Alrighty then," yelled Mario, grabbing Peach. He swung her into the air, and caught her just in time. She laughed, and music started playing.  Everyone clapped with the happy tune. They decided to tango, then waltz, then a good hunk of fast-motion. Mario spun Peach around and around, and she laughed harder. They leaped in the air, and slid on the ground.  Mario and Peach never had such a good time together before.  They felt so safe at this moment, and everyone encouraged them to dance more.  And dance they did.  It was a day of fun and fantasy, music and dancing, all the elements of fun.  Yoshi and Toad were enjoying the punch some more, and Toad spilled even more punch everytime.

When the party was over and everyone went home, Mario went to his house and thought about Peach.  Was she really happy, like he thought?  Or is there some sort of feeling inside her that she didn't describe?  Maybe she's still afraid that Bowser may return.  Or his kids might return.  Whatever the feeling was,
he didn't want her to think about it.  Bowser will never return.  He was banished from the Mushroom Kingdom by Eleken the Dragon, and was never to return again. His kids were sent away with him, and all the Troopas have fallen into a pit, which is now covered with lava, mud, and ashes.  There's no chance of
something going wrong, is there?

Chapter 2: Secrets Unraveled

The next day, Mario decided to take a long walk through the Kingdom. He didn't have many chances to do so, because Bowser always stopped him in his tracks.  But now it's all different.  Bowser's gone, and for Mario's good. Mario woke up early to get a fresh start, and he usually did better on efficiency in the morning than at any time during the afternoon or night. When he stepped outside, a cool breeze fluttered into his face.  It's going to be a chilly day, he thought.  Not many souls were outside today.  Only several
birds flew above him.He started walking, and quietly sang a tune:

"Oh goody, a-goody,    Bowser's gone!    Oh goody, a-goody, He's gone for good!"

He kept walking throughout the whole morning, enjoying the fresh air. He passed by the Princess's white and pink castle, and saw Yoshi's island in the distance.  What did Yoshi do in the mornings, he wondered.  Probably looked for the most delicious fruits any other Yoshi didn't find.  He'll never know until he went there.  But not today.  Today he just had to walk and feel free. After about an hour, Mario began to get tired.
He stopped to rest by a small bush.  He yawned, and, in a few minutes, fell asleep. Then, suddenly, he heard a rustle in the bush.  Puzzled, he awoke from his sleep and looked down at the bush.  A pair of golden eyes stared at him. Koopa eyes, he thought.  He could tell by the narrow slits in between. But that can't be right.  All the Koopas are gone.  How can one possibly be still here? "Hello?" he asked, peering down. The eyes closed, then opened again.

"Who are you?" Mario asked again. The eyes slowly got larger, and Mario noticed that the Koopa was going up. It finally appeared out of the bushes.  Mario immediately recognized that it was a Koopa Kid.  It was Wendy.

"Mario?" she asked.

Mario gazed at her.  How can she still be here?  All the Koopa Kids were forced away from the Mushroom Kingdom.

"Wendy!  How...why...what are you DOING here?" Mario asked, dazzled.

Wendy looked down at the ground.  Then she turned to Mario. "Before all my brothers and my dad were run out, I ran and hid in the jungle. The Bargos and Eleken didn't see that I was gone, and didn't pay attention to
the number of Koopa Kids that left," explained Wendy.

"What are Bargos?" asked Mario.

"They're the animals that kicked us out, along with Eleken, their ruler.  They were sent here from Gadra by Peach, and Eleken was the ruler of Gadra," said Wendy.

"What do they look like?"

"They look like small Bowsers, with no shells."

"And where's Gadra?"

"No Koopa knows."

Mario was astonished, and a little sorry for Wendy for her not being with her family.  He decided to take her home with him, and raise her.

"Wendy, will you live with me?  As long as you don't hurt me?" he asked.

Wendy's eyes popped out.  "I might, but what if Peach comes over?  How will you hide me?" asked Wendy,
clasping her paws together.

Mario smiled. "Don't worry," he said, "maybe I'll take you to Peach's castle and--"

"NO!" yelled Wendy, "Peach hates me!"

Mario gasped.  "No, Wendy!  Peach LOVES you.  She just doesn't admit it. Trust me, I was talking to her one day and she told me."

Wendy smiled a crooked smile. "Alright," she said.

They both got up, and headed to the castle.

Chapter 3: The Visitor

When Wendy and Mario got to the castle, they saw Peach combing her hair in the window.  She didn't see them, and kept brushing.  They quietly crept up to the castle doors and knocked.  They turned to the window and saw that Peach had left to answer the door.  She's always doing that.  A girl of royalty always answers the door fast.  They heard the big handle opening, and then, slowly, the door itself opened.  At least one of them, since there were two. At first, Peach saw just Mario, and was relieved that no one was with him.  Or
no one that she could see who was hiding behind the other door.

"Mario!  Is there anything you want?  A cake, perhaps?" she asked.

Mario glanced at Wendy, then at Peach. "Uhh...no cake, Peach.  S'just that a-someone here wants to a-see you," he said.

Peach looked puzzled. "Who?  There's no one there...unless..."

She carefully and slowly opened the other door.  Wendy tried to run away, but Mario grabbed her by the paw.  When Peach finally got the old door open, she saw Wendy and gasped.  A Koopa Kid, here?

"WENDY!  What're you doing here?  I thought you were gone!" she said in shock.

"I was left behind.  Now I'll never see my father or brothers again," Wendy replied, wiping away a tear.

Peach kneeled down.  She turned to Mario. "Mario, how did you find her?" she asked.

"I a-was walking through the Kingdom this morning because last night's party made me a-tired, and I a-found her in a bush," replied Mario.

Peach smiled, and turned to Wendy, who was sitting patiently. "Oh you poor thing," Peach said, as she scooped up Wendy in her arms. "You may have been a Koopa Kid, but I thought you were the best one because you're so cute." The Koopa Kids weighed very little, compared to Bowser, so Peach didn't have
much trouble holding Wendy. "Mario, why did you bring her here?" Peach asked him.

"Well, she needs a place to a-stay," replied Mario convincingly.

Peach smiled, and turned to Wendy and leaned in real close. "Listen, you can stay here if you'd like.  I'll get a room prepared especially for you, with diamonds and jewels, and everything."

Wendy's eyes glowed. "Oooohh.  I like that!" she exclaimed happily.

Peach giggled, and led her in the castle by her paw.  Then she turned around. "Oh, by the way Mario, thanks."

"It's a-no problem!" Mario said back. He turned around and headed back home.

Peach turned to Wendy and said, "Welcome to your home."

Chapter 4: Home at Last

Peach set to work with Wendy's bedroom in one of her guest rooms. She blanketed it with pink sheets, jewels of all sorts, and everything else Wendy could dream up.  Wendy smiled at the thought that this bedroom was like the one in her deserted castle, with its huge ceilings and pedestals.  Oh, how she wished her brothers were here.  And her father, she wanted him the most. Will they ever come back?  She hoped so.  Meanwhile, she rested on the bed and looked at the ceiling, smiling.

On the other side of the castle, Mario was talking to some friends. "So you see, a-Toad, it's a-gonna be a-very hard to get the two separated," he said to Toad.

"Oh.  But how come Peach and Wendy were friends from the beginning?" askedToad.

"Well, a-Peach found Wendy, lying on the ground, with a huge a-wound on her little shoulder.  Now a-Peach a-knew that she was the daughter of a-Bowser, but she wouldn't dare hurt his daughter.  It was a-probably caused from a fall, and Wendy walked a-back toward the direction of the castle, but couldn't make
it.  So Peach took care of the wound, and in a few days, Wendy recovered a- completely.  They became the best of a-friends," explained Mario.

"Oh..." said everyone.

"Yoshi got question," said Yoshi, waving his little hand in the air.

"Okay, Yosh, what a-is it?" Mario asked.

"Is Wendy really that good of a friend?"

"Of a-course.  I've liked her."

Everyone smiled, and thanked Mario for all the "useful" information. They all left, and after that, Mario decided to go to Peach's castle to possibly stay for a while, maybe to get more acquainted with Wendy.  So he went back and knocked on the door. Peach opened it quickly, like usual, and said, "Mario!"
"Peach, I was a-wondering, can I stay over?  Just for a while?"

"Sure, come on in."

Mario walked inside the huge interior of the castle.  Wendy is lucky to live here.Such a big place. "Where is Wendy, by the way?" Mario asked.

"Oh, she's upstairs, probably asleep.  By the way, did you want to talk to me or something?" Peach asked curiously.

Mario just sighed. "Yes." He sat down on one of the benches around the interior main hall. "Peach, do you a-think that Wendy's actually safe to keep around here? I mean, she throws a-tantrums a lot, and likes to run around."

"Well, Mario, you brought her here.  Wasn't it your idea?" Peach asked.

Mario suddenly remembered. "Oh, yeah, it was a-my idea.  But, just to check with you, I mean," he said
quickly.

"Well, I think it's fine, as long as she doesn't bother anyone around," replied Peach.

Mario looked at her as if she was crazy.

"Well, maybe she'll act normally if-" Peach suddenly recalled that Wendy's "normal" behavior was acting crazy and bothering everyone. "Okay, maybe she'll act abnormally if I teach her that her father isn't here,
and she'll have to follow my rules."

"That will be a-hard," said Mario, scratching his neck.

"Maybe you're right.  She learned so much from her brothers and parent while they were with her," said Peach, falling back into the bench.

Mario sighed again, this time really loudly, and then looked up at the ceiling. "Well, I a-gotta go," he muttered under his breath.

He got up and headed toward the door, and just as he got halfway out the door, Peach quickly got up and said, "Mario!  Wait a second!"

"What?"

"Just telling you that be careful, and if you just happen to run into any more Koopa Kids, well, don't give them to me," Peach said, giggling a bit.

"Okie dokie!" Mario replied, walking out the door.

Chapter 5: Bowser and Eleken Return

The next morning, Peach woke up to some sounds outside her window. She heard some growls and roars, and a lot of thunderous steps. Bowser?  Is he back?  The next moment, Wendy scampered into Peach's bedroom and grabbed the sheets. "Princess Peach!  Get up!" she yelled.

"What's wrong?" asked Peach.

"I heard all those sounds, and when I looked out the window, I saw Dad!"

"I thought that was Bowser!" said Peach She got up and, in her nightgown, ran downstairs, catching up with Wendy. "Where is he?" she asked.

"I saw him right outside!" gasped Wendy, catching her breath.

Both of them flew out the door, and what they saw shocked them out of their minds.  Bowser was there, but he was all tied up with rope to a tree.  He growled and snarled, and tried desperately to get out, but to no avail.  Then, right next to him, was a huge horde of what Wendy said were Bargos.  They did look like
Koopas without shells, sort of like big and angry Yoshis.  Then, all the way to the left, was a huge, scaly, fire-breathing dragon.  Wendy gasped.

"Eleken!" she yelled.

Eleken turned his head toward her, and thundered over. He lowered his long neck, and his eyes focused into hers.

"Wendy!  You've escaped!" he said.

"Actually, I didn't even go.  Your army just happened to miscount the number of Koopalings that left," Wendy said in a smart way.

Eleken's eyes narrowed.  Peach gulped.  She had never seen such a huge animal before.  This guy could eat Bowser in one bite.  She leaned closer to his face and gazed into his eyes. "Why is Bowser here?" she asked.

"Well, we were just patrolling the area, you know, looking for possible leftover Koopas.  Then, we saw Bowser, just walking along.  We didn't know how he came here.  Maybe he warped back.  We didn't know.  But we did know that we had to attack any Koopa we saw, even if it was Bowser.  So I ordered every single Bargo to run toward him and leap on him to pin him down.  Then, I came over. He tried to get up and bite me, but couldn't.  The weight was too great. I bit his neck to make him unconscious, and then after he was, I tied him up to that tree, and now we're thinking of what to do with him."

"Where are the other Koopa Kids?" asked Peach.

"I think they're still back where we put them," replied Eleken.

"What about...Wendy?" asked Peach, leaning towards the frightened Koopa Kid.

"Well, I don't know yet..." Eleken replied, turning around.

At the next moment, he swerved back around and leaped at straight for Wendy. Wendy screamed, and tried to run, but Eleken grabbed her at the last moment.

"Gotcha!" he yelled.

Peach backed away. "What are you doing?!" she yelled.

"I wanted all of the Koopas to leave and stay where they had left! But one stayed here!  Now, I must kill her!!" Eleken screamed.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!" yelled Wendy, scratching the ground, trying to stay, but Eleken had her in his claws right away. Bowser roared as he watched the horror.

Eleken thrust her to a tree stump and grabbed some rope on the ground, and then tied her up.  Peach covered her eyes. "I hate doing this, but all must follow the rules," Eleken quietly said. He raised his gigantic claws in the air, ready to strike.

Chapter 6: The Final Chapter

Bowser, seeing what was about to happen to his daughter, closed his eyes. Suddenly, a power surged deep inside him.  He felt something pop.  A feeling of ten Koopas' power overwhelmed him.  He pushed forward as hard as he could, and the ropes that tied him broke and ripped to shreds.  He roared and flailed
his arms.  Eleken didn't even notice that he was out.  He was just about to drop his claws on Wendy, who was closing her eyes.  Bowser ran toward Wendy, and just as Eleken's claws were just about to throw Wendy on a ground with a fatal wound, Bowser leaped in between them.  Eleken was caught by surprise, and his claws slammed into Bowser instead of Wendy, sending him flying up in the air.  Wendy's eyes opened, and she gasped at the site.  Eleken was so shocked that he teleported away. His Bargos followed.  He didn't want to do this to Bowser.

Mario was just coming to the castle with Yoshi, when he saw Bowser slam on the ground after a few minutes.  Wendy and Peach ran toward him. He was covered in blood, and five huge gashes were bleeding on his side. Mario and Yoshi screamed.  Wendy kneeled down next to her father. Peach was paralyzed at what she saw. Bowser opened one eye, and groaned a low and deep groan.  He tried to move, but the pain crippled him.  He looked at the deep gashes, and then at Wendy.

"You've saved me," said Wendy.

He smiled. "I'm... going... to... live," he muttered weakly.

Peach lowered her head, and a tear formed in the corner of her eye when she saw Wendy sigh with relief. She asked Wendy to lean her ear over, and then told her that the wounds were fatal, and she or anyone else couldn't do anything. Wendy's eye bulged out, and her heart skipped a beat. She slowly turned her head at the dying Bowser. Mario and Yoshi started to sob, and then hugged each other. They slowly started to walk away. There was no way they can watch this. Wendy was stunned. Her world seemed to end. She burst out in tears the next moment, and wrapped her arms around Bowser's neck. Her cries could be heard all over the Kingdom. Peach started to cry also. From the distance, Lakitu stopped in his tracks when he heard the screaming. Toad was trimming some hedges, and when he heard the screams, he froze. Wendy's tears were absorbed in her father's skin. She lifted her head, and immediately noticed that Bowser was dead.  He stopped breathing, and had no pulse. She dug under his big paw, and quietly cried. Peach stayed with her and pet her back. This was the saddest day in the Mushroom Kingdom, even if it was happening to Bowser.

Every day after that, Wendy had nothing but memories of her father still. She told all her brothers when they came back through a portal.  They thought they were done for as well.  Since that, the Koopa Kids lived once again in Bowser's castle, and the whole Kingdom once again lived in peace, but Bowser still lived in their memories.
