Ghostly Possession

By Dusk

Prologue

In a small area of Mushroom Kingdom, there was a haunted house. This house contained King Boo, the master of all ghostly magic, phasing, haunting, growing into sizes so large that they are sometimes considered frightening, and to make matters worse, he was a champion of disappearing. Now, he wasn't one to take nicely to curious people who wanted to take a look at this so called "haunted" house. But in fact it was haunted. Around seven-hundred-and-forty-nine ghosts resided in that very house. Once you were in, you were not getting out for a VERY long time.

So, you could go into the house, get the wits scared out of you, and then be put under a curse that would turn you into a ghost until the King Boo signs a contract to free the people who were caught in this spell. Eight months before our story takes place, Bowser, sorry, King Koopa, I want to keep my record clean, struck a deal with King Boo. He would grant King Boo victims to scare, while he would be a mercenary. This is the way the story starts. Will Mario stop Bowser, or will he fall victim to fear? Read on to find out.

Chapter 1

Mario sat down on the couch and watched a show that he found amusing. Just then Luigi told him about a book he had just finished. Mario paid little attention as he was glued to the screen. But seriously, would you listen about a two-hundred page drama about an injured Koopa? I thought not.

Suddenly, they heard knocking on the door. "Hey! MARIO!!! GET OUT HERE!" Toad shouted through the window. Both Mario and Luigi ran out to him. "Something is wrong with Toadsworth! He isn't himself," Toad shrieked.

The trio went out to Peach's castle, where yelling could be heard outside of the castle. They went up to a room covered with paintings (I'm using the Super Mario 64 layout this time). Toadsworth sat tied up in a chair, struggling and yelling. Professor E. Gadd was there along with Peach. Mario rushed over to Toadsworth.

"Toadsworth," he shouted to get his attention, but it wasn't working.

"Yes, I've seen this predicament before," E. Gadd muttered. "Allow me to handle this." He pulled out what looked like a vacuum cleaner that straps to your back. He turned it on, and what came out was a Boo. It cackled and flew away.

"Good heavens, what's all this ruckus about?" inquired Toadsworth. Everybody just stared at him. "Goodness, I black out and then everybody just stares at me. Do I have something on my face?" he asked.

"What does this mean, Professor?" Luigi asked.

"I don't know, but you must be cautious," E. Gadd replied.

Meanwhile, just above the castle, King Boo was getting a mission report from the one who possessed Toadsworth.

"How did your mission go?" King Boo asked his minion.

"They have defenses against this sort of thing, but I was able to penetrate the mind," the Boo replied.

Chapter 2

Bowser sat on his throne heaving a roaring sigh. Memories of his recent defeats by that blasted plumber and his cowardly 8-bit sidekick brother began to invade his mind. Repeating instances of that midget jumping on axes to plunge him into pools of HIS lava, destroying HIS bridge began to take toll on his fearsome appearance. A nearby Koopa lifted a tray up to the king. Bowser growled and knocks the trayed out of the Koopa's hands, the servant then instantly hiding in his shell, fearful of the king's anger.

Bowser kicked the koopa away and, being the mighty one he is, watched as the little, turtle-like creature slammed into the opposite wall. Much like the instant cliché of kicking a Koopa, the little one ricochetted off the wall and slammed back into Bowser's head, causing him to knock his head against his throne. He hopped off of his throne and slammed his foot on the returning Koopa, stopping it in its tracks. He roared, misery instantly being replaced with unbridled rage.

Suddenly, Kammy, Bowser's loyal witch of witchcraft, barged through the doors and flew into a nearby Koopa Troopa. "Master Bowser," she shouted.

"King Koopa," Bowser corrected.

"Right, King Koopa," Kammy corrected herself. "Er, King Boo would like to talk to you, do you accept?"

"Fine, fine, fine," Bowser said, unenthusiastically. "Bring him in."

"Right away, Lord Koopa," Kammy nervously said. "Master Boo! Bowser is now free to talk!"

King Boo floated in. "KING Boo to you," he corrected.

"Er, right." Kammy parted from the two.

"You'd better have a good reason!" Bowser shouted.

"Yes, I do have a good reason," King Boo said. "I have a plan. Did you ever here about the possessive ghosts?"

"No," Bowser said. "But a better question is, do I care?"

"You will, they are able to possess the bodies of those who have entered Sub-con. You know, gone to sleep." Bowser immediately sat up. "So, a Boo could just possess oh, let's say, Iggy, and he could beat up Roy."

"Hmm... Sounds like a good plan!"

"Yes, and I think perhaps we could possess the body of one of Mario's closest friends. Oh say, Peach."

"Better yet, Luigi!"

"Luigi? Have you gone addled?"

"Think, Mario and Luigi have a closer relationship than Peach has with Mario."

"Good idea, Bowser!"

"KING KOOPA!"

"Sorry."

"Okay then. So, how about this: You possess Luigi, and have him break all of the ghost-hunting gadgets. Then, report back to me, and I'll supply him with an army full of Koopas, Shy Guys, and Bob-ombs! Then, he'll lead it into the Mushroom Kingdom, and defeat its rulers. Then, I swoop in and take over! It's pure genius!"

"Very well, I'll get right on it." King Boo stalked out of the room.
