Prologue: The Strange World
There is a small clearing in a forest, with grass and some bushes growing in it. It is quite peaceful, when suddenly something falls out of the sky, and crashes into the ground. It's Mario! Suddenly, a Goomba walks forward, and over to Mario. The Goomba is wearing a blue cap. The Goomba checks Mario to see if he's alive. He finds out he is. He drags Mario forward, when Mario comes out of unconsciousness. He looks around, then blacks out. When Mario wakes up again, he is in a bed in a house. He gets up, and walks into the next room. There is a Toad sitting there. He notices Mario and gets up.
Toad: Oh, Mario. You're finally up!
Mario: ...
Toad: What happened? Well, Goombario found you unconscious in a clearing, and took you back here to Goomba Village. He's been waiting a while for you to wake up. You've been unconscious for a whole day. I believe he's outside.
Mario walks outside. He sees Goombario, and walks over to him.
Goombario: Oh! You're finally up, Mario. Are you well?
Mario: ...
Goombario: That's good. Mario, how did you end up unconscious?
Mario: ...
Goombario: WHAT?! Are you serious?! Mario, this is important. We MUST inform everyone in town about what happened. I'll come with you, at least for a while. Just let me tell my parents about this.
Goombario walks inside the house. He talks to his parents. He comes out.
Goombario: They're fine with it. Let's go!
Mario and Goombario walk out of Goomba Village. They see a hostile Goomba. The Goomba charges at them.

(NOTE: There will NOT be many RPG battles. After a while, there will only be RPG battles for bosses. As such, there will be no Star Points, so Mario will not level up. However, during certain points, Mario's attack and HP will go up. Also, there will NOT be FP. There will be badges, but they will play a minor role, mostly. Now, BACK TO ADVENTURE!)
Mario and Goombario walk forward. They walk until they are at Goomba King's castle. Or at least, where it used to be, as it is gone! In its place, is a door. The door is an elevator door, except that there is a continuous pink and yellow spiral swirling as its design. They walk to it.
Goombario: I wonder what that is. Hmm... I know! I remember seeing it in a book I was reading. Wait right here. I'm going to get it.
Goombario runs off, and after a short wait, returns with a book labeled "Chaos, a Guide to Chaos and All of It".
Goombario: This is the book I saw it in. Give me a minute.
Goombario searches through the book, and stops at a page.
Goombario: Here's the page! I'm going to read it. Ahem. "Chaos is a thing that covers all. Every living thing is born with it. Everything created is made with it. Some are born because of it. Some are made of it. But whatever the thing is, it has Chaos. One of the more prominent sources of Chaos is the Chaos Emeralds. They resonate great power and Chaos. The emeralds, however, only exist in one universe at a time. After 1,000 years, they move on to a new universe. When they leave, however, they leave part of their power behind, in the form of 7 shards. These Chaos Shards are mere shadows of the Emeralds, but still have great power. And like the Emeralds, when all are collected, they allow the user to travel anywhere in any universe. They can even lead to places sealed off from the universe. All you must do is think about where you want to go or who you want to see, and you will go to that place or where that person is. Because of this, they were sealed within a great Star Spirit long ago, though some tried to stop it, fearing the star would become evil. When the Shards are released, random things happen, very often, too. Whereever a shard lands, it creates a strange door. If you enter this door, you will be in a strange world. Inside the world, are the Shard Cores. If you take one out, it will form back into a Chaos Shard.” Yep, that sounds like it would be this door. In fact, if you collected all these Shards, you could probably get to Princess Peach, Mario! Now you know what you must do. I would like to help, but I must stay home. Sorry. Bye Mario!
Goombario walks away, back to Goomba Village. Mario walks up to the door, and it opens. He enters. Suddenly, Mario is shooting downward. Then, just as suddenly as it happened, it stops. A bing is heard, and Mario sees another door opening. Mario walks through, and finds himself inside a strange place. There is nothing there except a pathway. All else there is just swirling lines of pink and yellow. He walks to the end of the path and sees a black shard. It is shaped like a Star Piece. It must be a Chaos Shard. Mario walks forward to get it, and suddenly there is a huge tremor! Suddenly, the Goomba King appears! Or is it the Goomba King? It looks like him, but is dark blue; and instead of there being Red and Blue Goomba, there are a yellow and green Goombas.
Goomba King?: I am the Gloomba King! Yellow and Green Gloomba! Stop this foolish man!
Yellow and Green Gloomba run toward Mario!

Gloomba King: Oh no!
The Gloomba King explodes, leaving the Chaos Shard unprotected. Mario walks over to it, rabs it, and puts it away.
Mario has gotten a Chaos Shard! Mario has gained a Chaos Point, and a new Chaos Flash, Chaos Blast! This blasts all enemies for 5 damage, negates all Defenses, and paralyzes. It costs 1 Chaos Point.
Suddenly, the strange place starts to shake and disappear! Mario runs back to the elevator, and gets out just in time before the door collapses. Suddenly the ground shakes. Mario walks backwards, and King Goomba's castle pops back up, with the Goombas in it.
King Goomba: Thank you, Mario. You saved me. In thanks, I'll let you pass.
Suddenly, the space Mario is standing on pops up and launches him over the castle and river and onto the other side. Mario walks off toward Toad Town. He enters Toad Town.
Meanwhile at Castle Darkstar…
Peach is in what was previously her room. She is concentrating on something.
Peach: I've got to find a way to talk to Mario. But how?!
In frustration, Peach accidentally hits a book that wasn't there before. Suddenly, the book leaps up.
Book: Hey! Why'd you hit me?! What did I ever do to you?!
Peach: Ahh! A talking book!
Book: Don't worry. I'm not a book. I was merely cursed into this shape by Darkstar. I defied him, so he did this to me. And I want my revenge.
Peach: Maybe you could help me. Is there any way in which you could help me contact Mario?
Book: Mario? Hmm... He's that hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. I know of him. And I can help you. Do you have a message for him?
Peach: Yeah. Here.
Peach writes a letter, and gives it to the book.
Book: Okay. I'll make sure he gets this. By the way, since we'll be seeing each other a lot, you should know my name. I am Dradeda (drah-dee-dah). Goodbye, Princess Peach.
Dradeda disappears.
Peach: I hope Mario gets my message...

Staff Man: Like last time, there will be a 15-minute break. Do whatever you have to do, and then hurry back.
Koopath: Not another break. Ugh.
Will Mario get the message? Will Mario get more of the Chaos Shards? Will he learn more about them? Will Darkstar fail? Will Peach figure out how to escape? Will there be more breaks? Find out next time, on Paper Mario 3: Return of the Darkstar!
