In the Mushroom Castle, Princess Peach was in her bedroom brushing her hair. That was when she heard some knocking on her door.
"Come in," she called.
A split second later, about fifteen Toad children rushed inside yelling simultaneously about what they had seen at the Mario Bros' magic show.
"Quiet down!" Peach shushed them above the clamor. "One at a time!"
Once the room fell silent, one girl filled her in on what had happened.
"Princess! It was horrible! Mario made someone disappear for good, then he began tying him and Luigi up!"
Peach was a little frightened by this story. "Are you sure?"
The children nodded.
"We'll need to go down and rescue them, but be alert." She led them out of the room and down the stairs.
By this time, it was late in the afternoon and the Boos had already scattered throughout the town. Many of the residents had taken shelter inside their homes. Peach looked through one of the front windows of her castle and saw dozens of Boos waiting to get inside. She came up with a plan.
"Kids," she whispered, turning to the little Toads, "go out the back exit and find the Mario Bros, but be very careful."
"Yes, ma'am!" they replied, running away.
Peach went to the window again, looking for anything suspicious. She concentrated on the old house where the Boos escaped, and found Ludwig and Morton talking amongst each other.
"I bet they had something to do with this," sShe said, walking off.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Is the coast clear?" Morton asked Ludwig.
The young inventor looked from behind the shack to see if anybody could see them.
"I think so," he finally replied. "Let's try to find Wendy."
They cautiously snuck out from behind the house and moved behind a tree. Ludwig then turned around to find himself staring face-to-face with Princess Peach herself.
"What are YOU doing here?" the trio yelled at the same time.
"We didn't do anything!" Ludwig tried to explain. "It's our-"
"Nice try," the princess interrupted. "I should have known you two would be up to no good."
Morton noticed something unusual in the background. He looked at a few Bob-ombs floating in midair, then he put the goggles on.
"There she is!" he pointed.
"Who?" Peach looked behind her, but saw nothing.
"Over there!" Morton shouted again.
"Is this a joke or something?" she yelled. "It isn't funny at all." She grabbed the two Koopalings with both her hands, and began pulling them towards her castle. She was using almost every ounce of her strength, since they were both much heavier than she was.
"No!" Ludwig gasped. "We can explain everything!"
"Yeah right," Peach mumbled to herself.
However, she made a grim discovery when they arrived at the Mushroom Castle. Upon opening the door, many Boos flew out, taking them completely by surprise. The princess screamed and ran for cover. Ludwig and Morton were so frightened, they accidentally ran into each other and fainted.
Meanwhile, Wendy had snuck into the basement of the castle, carrying a few Bob-ombs in her arms. She wasn't worried about them exploding because they were already asleep.
"Once I get enough down here, I'll blow this castle to kingdom come!" she thought to herself. "Then, I'll kidnap the princess and Daddy will be so proud of me."
She snickered to herself, then went back outside to get more Bob-ombs.
On the other side of town, the Mushroom children had found Mario, Luigi, and the other Toad boy. After freeing them, the crew went out to investigate what was happening.
"Thanks, guys," Mario panted. "Well, we think we might know who's behind all this."
"You don't suppose..." Luigi started to say something.
"Look!" one of the kids interrupted him. Soon, everybody's eyes were fixed on four Bob-ombs floating in midair towards Peach's castle. Behind them, other Bob-ombs were marching toawrds the castle in single-file.
"That's Wendy!" Mario whispered. "We can't let her do that!"
"Who?"
"Those no-good Koopalings made the brat disappear," Luigi told them. "Come on!"
They ran towards the castle, but the Bob-ombs started ticking at them.
"Okay, maybe not," Mario said.
"Mario!" a familiar voice called.
"Princess?"
It was Peach. She ran up to them, looking back just to make sure no one was following her.
"This is serious," she said, breathing heavily. "Hide those children. The Boos have been released from their house."
"Oh, great," Luigi groaned. "Peach, you should stay here with Mario. I'll take them to safety and see if I can find my vacuum. Mario, fill her in on what's happening."
Luigi took them into the old house where the Boos escaped. They were relieved that none of them were in there at the moment. Then, he carefully went inside the castle to look for his vacuum.
"What's going on?" Peach asked Mario.
"I'm under the impression that Wendy O. Koopa's behind this mess," Mario explained. "She's the one who sabatoged our magic show. She tied us up, then ran away. She also released the ghosts from their house and led those Bob-ombs into our castle."
"But, what are they doing here?" Peach looked over to Ludwig and Morton, still unconscious.
"I don't know."
"I thought they were pranking me. So, they aren't responsible for this mess?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Let's wake them up and find out if we can get Wendy back to normal."
"Uh, good idea." Mario seemed a little unsure.
They ran over to the knocked out Koopas and began shaking them awake.
"Guys, wake up!" Peach shouted.
"Wha?" the two Koopalings both moaned together.
"Oh, good," Mario said.
"What do you want?" Morton demanded. "I prefer not to be woken up like that, for your information. I do not-"
Ludwig covered his mouth shut. "You'll have to excuse him."
"I really do not want to say this, but," Mario paused for a quick moment and sighed, "we need your help."
"Okay, how?" Ludwig wanted to know.
"Do you plan on getting your sister back to normal?" Peach asked him.
"Of course!" Morton folded his arms. "I don't want to spend an eternity in my father's dungeon."
"I thought so." Peach rolled her eyes. "What's your plan?"
"We're going to have her drink this," Ludwig said, pulling the can of carbonated antidote out from his shell. "This soda will instantly make her reappear."
"Are you sure it will work?" Mario asked.
"Trust me," Ludwig said, pointing to Morton. "The last one worked when he gave it to her."
"It wasn't all my fault," he retorted. "You're the one who invented it."
"Uh, guys?" Mario spoke nervously. Peach was also frozen with fear.
"What?" Ludwig and Morton said in unison. They looked away from Mario and found hundreds of Boos surrounding them. The four moved backwards until they hit a stone wall. They were trapped.
"I hope Luigi hurries up with that vacuum." Ludwig shivered.
Upon hearing the word "vacuum", the ghosts immediately backed away, trembling.
"Now, why didn't I think of that?" Mario thought to himself.
Peach could see Luigi in the background carrying his Poltergust 3000. Once the Boos were close enough to him, he began to vacuum them up, catching them off-guard. About a minute later, Luigi had sucked up every last one.
"I'm glad that problem's taken care of." Morton breathed a sigh of relief.
"Now we have to stop Wendy!" the princess ordered.
Luigi went back to the main enterance to put the vacuum away. Meanwhile, Mario, Peach, Ludwig, and Morton entered through the basement. They navigated through the passageways until they heard a familiar sound. They took shelter in a pipe that led to a large room filled with dozens of Bob-ombs. Though the foursome could not see her, they could hear Wendy cackling to herself.
"I'll destroy this castle and put a giant golden statue of me right in its place! No one will be able to stop me! Especially those brain-dead plumbers!"
"OOH! That-" Mario was about to step outside the pipe, but the princess and two Koopa Kids held him back and covered his mouth in case Wendy heard what was going on.
"She's gone insane," Ludwig mumbled.
"You're positive that Bowser didn't release her from her cage?" Peach whispered.
"Very funny," Morton hissed.
"If we don't act fast, we'll be crushed to death," Ludwig instructed. "Someone has to sneak over and get her to drink the soda."
"Not it!" Mario and Peach instantly whispered.
"Not it," Ludwig spoke.
"Oh, excellent," groaned Morton. He took the can and began to sneak over to where Wendy was standing, being careful not to upset any Bob-ombs.
