Morton put on Ludwig's goggles so he could find his sister. He was about twenty feet away from where Wendy was standing when a Bob-omb started to tick right next to him. Frightened, he sneaked backwards, plastered himself against a wall, and held his breath.
"Not yet, you idiot." Wendy picked up the fidgeting Bob-omb and was about to put it along with the others, but...
KA-BOOOOM!!!
The Bob-omb exploded in Wendy's invisible hands, catching her completely off-guard. Morton looked through the goggles and noticed she was dancing around dizzily.
"All right, now's my chance!" he thought to himself.
He tiptoed over and put the reappearing formula right by her feet. Then, he sneaked backwards and hid behind a column. By the time he hid himself again, Wendy had shaken off the stars.
"Whew! What happened?" she exclaimed, rubbing her head. Then she looked down and saw the soda can Morton had placed beneath her.
"Hello, what's this?" she asked herself, picking it up. "Well, I am kind of thirsty…"
Ludwig, Mario, and Peach were watching the whole thing from the warp pipe. Morton gave them a thumbs up as Wendy opened the can.
"This is a weird flavor," Wendy spoke, but eventually finished drinking the soda.
"I know what's weird," Ludwig thought, "how she talks to herself."
Wendy then looked around and saw that all the Bob-ombs had started ticking again. It may have been slow, but it sent chills down her spine.
"What's going on?" she whispered to herself. Then she looked down. Terrified, she realized her own shoes were now visible. Just to be sure, she also checked her hands and looked backwards for her shell. They were all there, too. She opened her mouth to scream, but stopped at the last second because she knew somebody would find her. She bolted away from the ticking Bob-ombs, looking to see if they were following her, but she smashed into something and almost lost consciousness.
"Oof!" Morton yelled. "Watch where you're going!"
"Morton! Shh!" she commanded. "What are you doing down here?"
"You should be thankful you're visible again," Morton spoke quietly.
"That was you who made me reappear?" Wendy snapped at him. "How could you?! Now we're going to get ourselves killed!"
Morton looked around and saw that all the Bob-ombs were now surrounding them, ticking furiously.
"We have to get out of here!" Morton yelled. "Come on!"
Ludwig looked on as Morton and Wendy began rushing towards him. He turned backwards and found that Mario and Peach had disappeared!
"What the?!" he shouted. "Where did they go?"
Back outside, Mario and the princess had escaped safely from their castle.
"This was a good idea," Peach told Mario.
"I didn't want to be involved any further in this mess," Mario explained, "Those naughty Koopalings got themselves in this to begin with, and they have to find their way out of it."
"They're gone!" Ludwig told Morton and Wendy, meanwhile. They were navigating through the basement, looking for a way out while avoiding the Bob-ombs.
"You guys messed up my plan!" Wendy yelled at them. "I hope you're happy!"
"Let's just concentrate on finding a way out of here," Morton said.
"I don't know my way around." Ludwig shrugged. "I don't live here!"
"I think we came from that way." Morton pointed towards a dark corridor.
"No, that way!" Ludwig motioned towards a different direction.
"That's the way we came, Captain Kook!"
"Wait, there's a way out!" Wendy pointed towards a window in a small room. It was already night, and the moon's light was faintly shining through.
"Are you kidding?!" Ludwig yelled. "I can't fit through that!"
"You never know until you try." Wendy had already begun making her way over there. "Now, come on!"
Ludwig and Morton checked behind him and found that the Bob-ombs were still following them. The two brothers then followed Wendy towards the window. Wendy opened it and was able to slither through with ease, followed by Morton. Unfortunately, Ludwig was right in his prediction.
"Augh! I'm stuck!" he grumbled. "Get me out!"
Morton and Wendy ran back, grabbed his arms, and started pulling him out.
"Not... budging..." Morton grunted.
"Hurry..." Ludwig said through clenched teeth.
Morton and Wendy used every last ounce of her strength, then Ludwig popped out the window, flattening them both. Their muffled shouts came from them beneath him.
"Sorry," Ludwig apologized, getting up and dusting himself off.
By this time, the brigade of Bob-ombs had escaped out the window and were almost ready to explode. Ludwig, Wendy, and Morton continued to back up until they approached the stone wall. Once the Bob-ombs got close enough, they all exploded at the same time, sending the Koopalings up in midair. The Mario Bros. and Peach listened to their screams before they disappeared over the horizon.
"Looks like they've got some explaining to do," Mario said finally, while Luigi and Peach laughed.
Ludwig, Wendy, and Morton landed in the middle of Desert Land, completely darkened from the blasts.
"Ow... My body..." Morton complained.
"This is fabulous," Wendy said sarcastically, brushing herself off and fixing her bow.
"At least we don't have to worry about the dungeon," Ludwig sighed. "Come on, let's go home."
"Wait, isn't there a bathroom on the way?" Wendy asked.
"You could have gone to the bathroom while you were in the Mushroom Kingdom," Morton suggested.
"I didn't have to at the time," Wendy said.
"I don't understand-" Morton began to say something, but Wendy interrupted him.
"What was that, Motor Mouth?"
"Oh, nothing, nothing. Let's just go."
The trio started walking back to their home. Wendy kept complaining until they stopped at a restroom in Water Land. As soon as she was finished, they went down a warp pipe and arrived in front of Bowser's Castle. The drawbridge was lowered and they walked inside to find Bowser sitting on his throne.
"Thank you!" Bowser seemed very pleased. "Where did you find her?"
"Oh, she was in the Mushroom Kingdom," Morton explained. "In fact, we followed her over there. She did made a little mischief, but we found her and brought her back. She also wanted to blow their castle to smithereens and kidnap the princess, but other than that, she didn't cause any real harm."
At that point, he noticed that his father wasn't smiling anymore.
"Uh, oops," he said nervously.
Wendy gave him a nasty look and Ludwig slapped his own forehead.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Great, just great," Wendy lamented, folding her arms. "Thanks to your excellent inventions and storytelling, we have to spend two months in the dungeon!"
"It would be better if we weren't in the same cell," Morton said.
"Not to worry," Ludwig smiled, "because I have a new soda formula that will help us."
"What does it do?" Morton wanted to know.
"Its designed not to make you hungry. I figured we should put this to good use since we'll be here for a while."
"No way," Wendy refused. "After what I just went through, I am never going to drink soda ever again for as long as I live."
"Suit yourself." Ludwig opened the can and began to drink it. When he was about halfway finished, he let out a groan and held his stomach in pain. Wendy and Morton watched in disgust as Ludwig's body began to change drastically. First, his nose grew longer, then his tail curled. After that, his spiked bracelets popped off one by one, and his feet and hands turned into hooves. Once his transformation was complete, Ludwig resembled a half-pig, half-Koopaling creature.
"No more fizzy drinks for me neither," Morton rolled his eyes.
Ludwig oinked.
