Son of the Beast

By Ryan “Blaze” Koopa

ACT 1:

The Koopa Klown Kopters were nearing the Mushroom Kingdom. It was the most likely of places Blaze could’ve flown to.

“Okay,” said Lemmy. “We might need to think of a way to keep track of Blaze while he’s flying around. We can’t afford to lose him…”

“Lemmy has a point,” said Bowser. “The question is-”

“How do we do it…?” Wendy interrupted.

“… Yes… That’s exactly it…”

“Not to vorry,” said Ludwig. “Look at vhat I have here.” Ludwig held up something that looked like a radar and a smaller object with a tiny bulb on it.

“What’s that?” asked Junior.

“A radar and sensor chip,” said Ludwig. “It’s pretty simple. All ve have to do is pin the sensor chip on Blaze. The radar vill then pick up the signal from the sensor chip, thus making it easier to follow Blaze vherever he goes and keep him in order.”

“Pin the chip on Blaze…?” asked Karma. “Is that really simple to you?!”

“… Vell… Okay, so pinning the chip on him may be a bit difficult, but following him von’t be…”

“I wonder how Morton’s doing…” said Larry.

***

Morton could’ve been better. He had taken along a Hammer Brother, a Boomerang Brother, and a Fire Brother in two Klown Kopters and decided to lure the Mario Brothers into Mushroom City by making a rigged ruckus with his three minions. All four were now in an intense battle with Mario and Luigi. Many Mushroom City citizens were watching the melee.

Morton wildly blasted at Mario. Mario dodged and threw fireballs back at Morton, who retreated into his shell and began bouncing around aimlessly. Meanwhile, the Hammer, Boomerang, and Fire Bros. where trying to pelt Luigi with their weapons, though the fast-moving Luigi was able to dodge them all.

Morton popped back out of his shell, panting.

“Give up, Mario!” he began. “I got this fight won because it’s four against two and you and Luigi are outnumbered!”

“That’s never stopped us before!” Mario retorted.

“Well it will THIS time!!!”

Morton began jumping and stomping the ground, sending small shockwaves. (His shockwaves aren’t that big because he’s not as heavy as Ludwig or Roy.) Mario jumped to avoid them, but was suddenly struck by a hammer that came out of nowhere. Mario staggered, his hands on his head. Morton turned to the Hammer Bro.

“Nice shot, Hammy!” Morton complemented.

“Nothin’ to it!” said the Hammer Bro (or is it Hammy).

Luigi threw fireballs at the Boomerang Bro and Fire Bro, who both jumped out of the way.

“Come on!” Luigi taunted. “Hit me with your BEST shot!”

“You bet we will!!!” said a Fire Bro. He blew fireballs at Luigi, who dodged.

Meanwhile, Morton was standing over Mario, who was a little dazed from a hammer. Morton picked Mario up.

“How’s about THIS!!!” He punched Mario in the face. The crowd gasped as Morton delivered blow after blow after blow on Mario. He was about to hit him again when-

“Hey! What’s that?!” cried a Mushroomer. The crowd looked up, as did the Marios and Koopas.

A distant roar could be heard. A strange but fierce-looking creature was swooping down directly at them, with its long, sword-like claws stuck out in front of him!

“WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT?!” Luigi cried.

As the creature got closer, they could all see that it was some kind of Koopa monster. It grew closer and closer, roaring loudly.

“YIKES!!! DUCK!!!” someone yelled. Everyone ducked as the monster passed barely overhead. It turned around and flew over them again, spitting fireballs.

“TAKE COVER!!!” Mario yelled.

The crowd ducked for cover, while Hammy and the other two Bros. ducked behind a car, the Marios ducked into an alley, and Morton retreated into his shell. The monster again passed overhead. Morton popped back out of his shell. “That thing looked familiar…,” he said. “I wonder how…”

Mario and Luigi came back out of the alley, and the Bros. came from behind the car. The crowd emerged from their hiding spots.

“Whatever that is…” said Mario, “IT’S COMING BACK!!!”

This time, the creature landed with a hard stomp, right in front of the crowd! The Mushroomers ran back, except for one, a little girl with a purple Yoshi doll. Morton was shocked. He now recognized the creature.

“BLAZE?!” he yelled. “WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU YOU’VE BECOME A MONSTER AND YOU’RE ABOUT TO MAKE MINCEMEAT OUT OF THAT GIRL!!!”

“That’s Blaze?!” asked Luigi.

Blaze stomped over to the Mushroomer girl. She just stood still, as if she was frozen solid. Blaze growled and raised his claws! Just as Blaze was about to bring them down on her, the Boomerang Bro knocked her out of the way, with Blaze’s claws barely missing him. The Fire Bro came up to the Boomerang Bro.

“Blaster, if King Koopa saw you do that, what would he say?” said the Fire Bro.

“Fry, I didn’t have a choice,” said the Boomerang Bro (or Blaster).

“LOOK OUT!!!”

Blaze blew fireballs at them. They dodged. Luigi threw fireballs at Blaze, who simply blocked them using his own fireballs. Mario charged at Blaze and jump-kicked him. Blaze stumbled, but quickly regained his footing. He swung his claws at Mario, who jumped back, but not far enough to avoid getting cut in the arm. He winced hard, clutching his arm. Mario jumped as Blaze charged at him. Missing Mario, Blaze went for Morton.

“BLAZE!!! WHAT’RE YOU DOIN’ DON’T YOU REMEMBER WHO I AM?!” Morton realized this wasn’t a good time to ramble. He jumped out of the way and retreated into his shell. Blaze was about to attack the shell when he stopped and looked ahead. Not far away was Princess Peach’s castle. Blaze growled and took off in that direction.

“Mario! Are you okay?” Luigi asked.

“I’ll be fine…” said Mario. He turned to Morton.

“Hey! Don’t question me!” Morton said. “I don’t know what happened to him either! Honestly! I’m not lying, fibbing, pulling one over on you-”

“Okay! Enough of that!” Mario interrupted. “We have to stop him! He’s heading for the princess’ castle!”

“How about we make a deal,” said Luigi. “You help us stop Blaze, and we won’t have you and your Bros. thrown in Peach’s dungeon.”

“Okay, you got a deal!” Morton said quickly.

“Let's-a go!” said Mario.

They ran off to the castle gate.

***

In the castle, Toad was frantically running to Peach’s room. He burst open the door, startling Peach.

“Toad!” Peach yelled. “Could you please knock next time?”

“Sorry, Princess!” Toad said quickly. “But something’s headed right for the castle!”

“What sort of something?”

Suddenly, the wall burst apart, and there was the monstrous-looking Blaze!

“EEEEEEEEK!!!” Peach screamed. “WHAT IS THAT?!”

“I don’t know, but it looks like that Blaze character from a long time ago!” said Toad. They both backed up. Blaze extended his claws. Suddenly, the door burst open. Mario, Luigi, Morton, and his three minions ran in.

“Mario! Luigi! ... Morton?!” said Peach.

Mario and Luigi threw fireballs at Blaze, while Morton blasted his wand and Hammy, Blaster, and Fry threw hammers, boomerangs, and fireballs. All this drove Blaze backward a bit. Blaze jumped out the window and flew back into the city.

“Mario! Luigi! Please go stop him!” said Peach. “I need to talk to Morton!” Mario and Luigi nodded.

“Just so you know,” said Luigi, “we made a deal with him. Don’t throw him in the dungeon.” The Marios jumped out the window. Peach turned to Morton.

“Okay! What’s going on here?!” Peach said. “Why are you here, and do you know if that was that Blaze guy or not?! It sure looked like him!”

Morton explained about how Blaze had started randomly and slowly mutating as the days passed. He also explained the deal he made with the Marios, ending the whole explanation with “and I’m not lying, fibbing, pulling one ov-”

“Enough!” said Peach. “… I guess I’ll let you off for now… but I insist you go and help Mario and Luigi!”

“Yeah okay!” said Morton. “Hammy! Blaster! Fry! Follow me!”

Morton and his minions jumped out the window and into the moat. They swam out and hurried back to the site of the fight.

Mario and Luigi were throwing fireball after fireball at Blaze, but this only made Blaze stumble. He wasn’t injured at all.

“*pant* How do we *pant* beat him?” Luigi panted. “He’s *pant too strong. *pant*”

“He can’t keep this up forever,” said Mario. “He should tire sooner or later…”

Suddenly, a beam came out of nowhere and hit Blaze. Blaze shook himself off. Mario and Luigi looked back to see Morton and the Bros.

“I hate to do this to you, Blaze,” said Morton, “but it’s for your own good!”

Morton fired at Blaze again. Blaze retreated into his shell and darted towards them, missing all but Blaster.

“Blaster!” cried Fry.

“I’m… okay…” said Blaster.

Blaster was hit by Blaze again.

“AAH!!! I’m hurt!!!”

Blaze popped back out of his shell and blew fire wildly in their general direction. They all jumped out of the way. Blaze growled, then took off flying again.

“NOW where’s he going?!” Hammy asked.

“I don’t know!” said Mario. “But we have to follow him!”

Mario and Luigi pulled out two Feathers, thus growing wings on their caps (like Wing Caps in Mario 64).

“Hammer Bros!” said Morton. “Into the Klown Kopters!” Morton and the Bros. jumped into their Kopters, which were parked nearby. Morton and Hammy jumped into one of them, and Fry carried the slightly injured Blaster into the other. They all took off.

“Where do you think he’s going?” Morton asked as he and Hammy flew alongside Mario.

“I’m not sure,” said Mario. “But seeing as how he’s flying out to sea, I’d say he’s flying to Yoshi’s Island…”

“Uh oh! I’d better contact the rest of my family about this and boy will they be surprised about this because this is one of the most surprising surprises that could ever surprise anyone and-”

“JUST DO IT!!!”

“Okay…”

Morton’s wand glowed.

***

The rest of the Koopa family was high above the Mushroom Kingdom. They were all worried about Morton. Was he okay…? And what could Blaze be doing at this moment?

Suddenly, Larry’s wand began to glow.

“Uh oh!” he said. “That must be Kamek…” Larry peered at the wand top, but instead of Kamek, he saw-

“MORTON!!!”

“Hey! Hi, and wassup Bro!” Morton said back.

“Hey guys! It’s Morton!” Larry said to everyone else.

“Morton?!” said Bowser. “Is he okay?!”

“I’m okay, King Dad!” Morton said. “No scratches on me, but I got some bad, horrible, terrible news! Blaze has turned into a monster and he attacked us in Mushroom City and we had to team up with the Marios to try and stop him but it was no good-”

“Hang on!” said Larry. “You teamed up with the Marios?!”

“I had no choice! They were gonna throw me in Peach’s dungeon if I didn’t help them!”

“Oh… Anyway, we know about Blaze, he mutated into a monster back at the castle. We’ll tell you the whole story once we find you. Where are you now?”

“We’re flying across the ocean, chasing Blaze. We think he’s going to Yoshi’s Island. OH SHOOT-”

“… Morton… Morton?! Morton, are you there?!”

No answer came. Larry’s wand stopped glowing.

“W-w-w-what happened?!” Wendy asked anxiously.

“He was cut off!” Larry said. “But he said he’s somewhere between here and Yoshi’s Island.”

“What was that about teaming up with the Mario Bros?” Bowser asked.

“… Err… Can we get to that later?”

“Fine! I guess it’s not that important…”

“By the sound of it,” said Junior, “we might need a little more help.”

“I know where to get it!” said Larry. He made his wand glow again.

“Who are you calling?” Wendy asked.

“You’ll see,” said Larry. “But we may have to wait for him…”

“You and Wendy can wait for him,” said Bowser. “We’ll go ahead, but you’d better catch up!”

“Take this for now, Larry,” said Ludwig. He threw the radar to Larry and pinned the sensor chip on himself.

“Once your friend gets here,” said Ludwig, “use the radar so that you and Wendy can find us easily.”

“Okay,” said Larry.

Bowser, Lemmy, Junior, Ludwig, and Karma flew away. Wendy remained thinking to herself as Larry was talking through his wand. Something tells me this could get really rough later on, she thought.

***

Blaze was blowing fire back at the Marios, Koopaling, and Bros while flying backwards. They all swerved wildly to avoid Blaze’s fire. Morton had dropped his wand.

“Something tells me this guy won’t give up that easily,” said Mario.

“He’s gonna shoot us all down if he doesn’t stop!” said Morton. “Anybody have an idea, plan, strategy?!”

No one answered.

“I guess that’s a no, negative, nada, nothing…”

Suddenly, a fireball hit the propeller on Blaster and Fry’s Kopter! The Kopter began to go down!

“AAACK!!! NOT GOOD!!!” Fry cried.

Luigi saw this, and flew under the Kopter to prevent it from falling.

“Mario!” Luigi called. “You, Morton, and Hammy stay on Blaze! I have my hands full!”

“Got it!” said Mario.

Mario, Morton, and Hammy continued to follow Blaze, while Luigi struggled to keep the Kopter in the air.

“Hey!” said Fry. “I think I see Master Morton’s wand floating down there! Go down so I can get a closer look!”

“Mamamia…”

***

Back at the castle, Kamek was looking through books, trying to find more information about Blaze’s mutation, Flamethrower the Koopa, and how to destroy the curse. Iggy and Roy were also in the room. Roy was bored. All his heart desired was beating up on Iggy, but no. He couldn’t because he was injured. Blaze, that idiot! he thought. Why’d he have to punch me in the chest?!

Meanwhile, Iggy was lying on Kamek’s bed. “Have you found anything yet?” Iggy asked.

Kamek was so busy concentrating on his reading that he didn’t hear Iggy.

“I guess that means no…” Iggy said to himself. He took a sip of his soup that Clawdia had given him.

“Oh, I’m sorry, Ignatius,” said Kamek at last. “No, I haven’t yet…”

“Well… It’s about sunset now, and if Blaze gets stronger, then…” He stopped and shivered at the thought. “… I just hope everyone else will be okay…”

“Have faith, Ignatius,” said Kamek. “I’m sure they will be fine…”

“You don’t know how much I hope you’re right…”

***

It was sunset over Yoshi’s Island. The Yoshis were having their monthly gala at the beach. In addition to eating, they were participating in various activities, including bobbing for melons, dolphin riding, and more.

OUR Yoshi was having a melon-eating contest with Teroshi, an indigo-colored Yoshi, with several other Yoshis watching nearby. So far Yoshi had eaten twenty-three melons, while Teroshi was only up to fifteen and was starting to get full.

“Must… eat… more…” Teroshi gasped as he tried to shove down another melon, while Yoshi continued to chow down on melon after melon after melon. Teroshi was so full, he finally gave up.

“Yoshi wins!!!” said a red Yoshi. The Yoshis cheered, while Teroshi just sat there fuming, with a slight pain in his stomach.

“Ugh…” Teroshi groaned. “You got me again, but I’m optimistic about next time!”

“We’ll see about that, old pal,” Yoshi said.

“Yeah, that’s right! You see ME clean house!”

“… What’s that?”

“What? You don’t know what a house is?”

“No! That!”

Yoshi pointed upward. Before Teroshi could turn to see what Yoshi saw, he could hear screams from the other Yoshis. He looked to see fireballs falling from the sky. Looking up, he saw a monstrous figure hovering overhead!

“Wha… Wha… What is that?!” Teroshi asked.

The figure landed on the ground with a hard stomp. It started swinging its long, sharp claws at the surrounding Yoshis! They all narrowly dodged them.

Yoshi eyed the creature. It had flame-colored hair, a shell with a tone of red that was between dark red and crimson, six fangs, three huge spikes on its shell, and a large scar on its right cheek and right knee. Where had Yoshi seen someone with this kind of description?

“… I think I’ve seen him before…” Yoshi finally said. “I can’t remember his name… It was something related to flames...”

“If you know him,” said Teroshi, “why don’t you tell him to stop before he sets the entire Island ablaze?!”

“… Blaze… Blaze! That’s it! I remember now… But this isn’t the way he looked or acted when I first saw him!”

Blaze started flying again, continuing to blow fireballs at the Yoshis. Suddenly, one fireball hit a yellow Yoshi! The Yoshi yelled in pain and fell. He struggled to get up. Blaze began to charge at him, claws first!

“NO!!!” Yoshi cried. He hastily swallowed a melon and made an egg, and with perfect aim, threw the egg at Blaze’s face, causing Blaze to miss the yellow Yoshi.

“Teroshi!” Yoshi called. “Get him to safety! I’ll handle Blaze!”

Teroshi nodded and ran over to the injured Yoshi as Yoshi desperately tried to keep Blaze away from them. Teroshi lifted the yellow Yoshi onto his back and carried him away.

Meanwhile, Blaze flew around while blowing fire downward, trying to set Yoshi aflame, but missing. Yoshi quickly jumped around to avoid the fire. Blaze suddenly stopped flapping his wings and fell, landing on his feet with a hard stomp and sending shockwaves toward Yoshi. Yoshi fluttered over them. He quickly ran back to where the melons were and ate one. He made an egg and threw it at Blaze, who simply sliced it in two with his claws. Blaze charged at Yoshi, who jumped out of the way as Blaze took a swing at Yoshi with his claws.

Then more trouble came. Blaze suddenly flew upward. He began to blow fire all the way around Yoshi, creating a huge ring of fire! Blaze landed in the ring of fire and slowly stomped towards Yoshi! Since the wall of fire was so high, Yoshi couldn’t get to the melons to make eggs. Yoshi could only try to avoid Blaze. Blaze suddenly blew fireballs at Yoshi, who jumped to avoid them. Yoshi jumped around desperately as Blaze continued to blow fireballs at him. Blaze charged at Yoshi again and swung his claws at Yoshi, who narrowly dodged. Yoshi tried to get further away from Blaze, but was suddenly hit by a fireball that came at him all too quickly for him to react! Yoshi yelled in pain and fell on the ground. Blaze walked over and held his claws up! Yoshi shut his eyes, waiting for it. After a few seconds, he opened them, expecting to be in the Overthere, but he was entirely surprised to see Blaze being pelted by fireballs and hammers that were falling from the sky. Yoshi looked upward to see Mario hovering above with a Wing Cap, throwing fireballs at Blaze, with a Hammer Brother throwing hammers while hovering in a Koopa Klown Kopter with Morton Koopa Junior. But wait… Mario teaming up with a Koopaling and a Hammer Brother…? That didn’t seem right.

Blaze turned his attention to them and flew upward. Mario and the Kopter flew out of the way, barely missing Blaze.

The other Yoshis came back, led by Teroshi.

“Listen up!” he said. “Half of you go make eggs and try to knock out that monstrous flying thing! The other half go try to put out that fire!”

The Yoshis nodded. Half of them ran over to where a melon-eating contest had been held and began swallowing melons and throwing eggs at Blaze. Though not all of them were very accurate egg throwers, they tried the best they could. Meanwhile, the other Yoshis ran to the water and sucked up as much water as they could into their mouths. They then spat the water around the base of the ring of fire. Within minutes, Yoshi was free.

Meanwhile, Mario and Blaze were throwing and spitting fireballs at each other as they flew around. As Mario battled Blaze, Morton was ready to make a desperate move. Judging his moment, Morton jumped from the Kopter and into Blaze, fortunately hitting Blaze while his claws weren’t stuck out. Both of them fell to the sandy ground. Morton jumped off Blaze before he could make a move. Blaze got back up and glared angrily at Morton. He roared loudly and charged at him. Morton jumped out of the way. Mario assisted him from above by throwing fireballs. Hammy landed the Kopter and joined the melee. He began throwing hammers at Blaze, who was hit by a few but shook it off. He blew fire at Hammy, who narrowly dodged. Morton stomped the ground, sending small shockwaves at Blaze, who was thrown off a bit. Mario instantly threw fireballs at Blaze. The Yoshis began throwing eggs at him again.

Luigi was just coming off the ocean carrying the other Klown Kopter with Blaster and Fry. Seeing the melee, Fry jumped out with Morton’s wand (which he had indeed found in the ocean) and blasted at Blaze.

Blaze suddenly began to feel funny. He suddenly took off flying. Mario, Morton, the Yoshis, Hammy, Blaster, Fry, and Luigi all watched him go.

***

Teroshi helped Yoshi up. “Are you okay, pal?” Teroshi asked.

“… Yeah… I’m fine,” Yoshi said softly. “*groan* I really shouldn’t have gulped up those melons before fighting that monster…”

Fry walked over to Morton. “I got your wand back, Master,” he said. Morton, for once, was too tired to ramble and simply smiled. He then looked over to see the Yoshis staring at him with odd looks. Morton began to feel a little nervous. Yoshi stumbled over towards him. “You might not have anything to do with this… do you?” he asked calmly.

“Well… I… uh…” Morton rubbed his fingers together, sweating heavily. Mario noticed this, and decided it was best to back Morton up.

The Yoshis began to surround Morton, but Mario stopped them.

“Now wait a minute,” said Mario. “Morton is not going to do any harm.”

“How do you know that?!” asked an orange Yoshi.

“Look. I understand why you’re all concerned, but I can assure you all that he won’t cause any trouble…”

The Yoshis all looked at each other. They weren’t entirely sure that allowing Morton on the Island was such a good idea. They could remember the numerous times the Koopa Troop had struck this Island with their dark magic… Then again, Morton had indeed helped to drive Blaze away from the beach, and while he was under Mario’s watchful eye, what could go wrong?

“Okay…” said Teroshi. “We’ll give him one chance…”

Morton wiped his forehead in relief. Yoshi looked up to see many birds flying away.

“Something tells me Blaze is still somewhere on the Island…” Yoshi said. “You all should lock your huts up tight for the night. We’ll try to keep Blaze away from the village if he tries anything else.”

The Yoshis all nodded and walked away. Morton walked up to Mario.

“I didn’t think, never thought, and otherwise had no clue that I’d say this to you,” Morton said. “But… thanks for backing me up…”

“Ah… What did you expect? I’m a good guy,” Mario said.

Morton walked off. “Don’t go too far,” said Mario. “I can’t keep an eye on you if I can’t see you.” Yoshi came up.

“You really know when to jump in,” said Yoshi. “I almost got my goose cooked.”

“We would’ve been here sooner, but Blaze nearly shot us all down. Morton and I had to fall back a bit, and Luigi had his hands full.” Mario pointed to Blaster and Fry, who were trying to fix their Klown Kopter, of which the propeller was malfunctioning after being hit by a fireball from Blaze.

“Well,” said Yoshi, “Blaze could be anywhere on the Island by now… I wonder what suddenly made him fly away like that…”

“Beats me…”

***

It was nighttime. Bowser and the kids (minus Larry, Wendy, and of course, Morton), were flying over the ocean.

“Ve should be nearing Yoshi’s Island any time now…” said Ludwig.

“I hope Morton’s okay…” said Lemmy. “I wonder what cut him off…”

“Isn’t it obvious?” Karma muttered. Lemmy rolled his eyes.

“I think I’ll check on Larry and Wendy…” he said. Lemmy’s wand began to glow.

“Hello?” Larry’s voice was heard through the wand.

“Larry?” Lemmy said. “How far back are you?”

“We’re not TOO far back. We brought Petey with us. Have you found Blaze yet?”

“Not yet…”

“Hey? Hello? Anyone there?” said another voice through the wand. Lemmy recognized it.

“Morton?” Lemmy said. “Are you okay?”

“We had a little incident on the beach but otherwise I’m okay, unscathed, not hurt. I just wanted you to know that you might want to land somewhere on the Island a bit further away from the Yoshi village because they are all a bit suspicious about me because I’m a Koopa after all but I warn you to be careful because Blaze is somewhere on the Island and he could be anywhere and-”

“SHUT UP!!! I got it, and you be careful, too. He should make his first out of seven steps towards invincibility anytime soon…”

“… Invincibility?! What’re you talking about? I mean I know I talk about a lot of strange stuff like wedding cake but this is the strangest… Wait what am I saying wedding cake isn’t strange because if it were strange I wouldn’t like it but I DO like it so it’s not-”

“MORTON!!!”

“Sorry…”

“Larry, you guys should hurry and catch up. It might not be long before we need to take the sensor chip off Ludwig and pin it on Blaze… Which, I might add, will be a challenge…”

“Got it, Bro,” said Larry. “See ya later…”

“Ditto,” said Morton.

Lemmy’s wand stopped glowing.

“Morton’s okay,” Lemmy said, “but said to-”

“I heard him,” said Bowser. “We’ll fly wide around Yoshi’s Island and land somewhere in the middle of the Island.

***

The Koopas had already landed on Yoshi’s Island. With their Kopters parked nearby, they had decided to camp out in the middle of a forest. After gathering firewood, Ludwig easily made a fire with his firebreath. Bowser Junior was talking to Bowser.

“You don’t suppose Blaze is somewhere nearby, do you, Papa?” he asked Bowser.

“I'm… not so sure,” said Bowser. “I’m hoping that he is and that he isn’t at the same time… In the meantime, don’t worry…”

Junior couldn’t help BUT worry. It was nighttime now, and Blaze could have been starting to get stronger as they spoke.

Later, everyone but Lemmy and Junior was asleep. It was Lemmy’s turn to keep watch for any trouble, but Junior was so worried that he couldn’t sleep. Lemmy could see this and tried to calm his youngest brother down.

“Look, Junior,” Lemmy said, “there’s nothing to worry about… I don’t think…”

Junior tried to take deep breaths, trying to calm himself. Just as he was beginning to contain himself, he heard bushes crackling.

“W-w-w-what was that…?” Junior asked nervously.

“I dunno…” said Lemmy. He looked around, hearing more crackling.

“Stay here,” said Lemmy. “I’ll go scope this out…”

Junior nodded. Lemmy walked away into the forest. Be careful, Lemmy, Junior thought.

Lemmy’s wand glowed, and he held it as if it was a flashlight. More bush crackling was heard. Now Lemmy was a bit nervous himself, but tried to hold his nervousness back.

Suddenly, he heard a slight growl. Lemmy cautiously looked around, getting an anime sweatdrop. The growl began to get louder. Suddenly, he froze, not moving a single inch. The growl was even louder, as if it were right behind him. Lemmy held that thought. Right behind him…? Hearing the growl once again, he slowly turned his head.

“RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRR!!!”

Back at the campout, Junior was sitting as contentedly as he could when he suddenly heard a loud roar, followed by an even louder yell! Junior shot up.

“LEMMY!!!” he called. “WHERE ARE YOU?!” He could see that the screams didn’t wake the others up. In a dance of nerves, Junior ran off to find his brother.
