Something to Live For

By Amber Koopa

Chapter 1: Weakness at Large

Bowser crumpled up yet another useless plan to defeat the Mario Bros. and threw it into the overflowing wastebasket. He checked the digital clock on the desk: almost midnight. He looked at the locked door, wondering if he should just give up and call it a night.

"No," he mumbled to himself. But then again, this was so antagonizing! Plan after plan, nothing ever worked. He sat and planned for hours in this "thinking room", drawing and writing plan after plan, attempt after attempt. The undefeatable Mushroom Kingdom thrived, and each plan ended in pain and defeat. With Mario.

"Ugh!" he shouted. Mario and Luigi must have some weakness he didn't know about. He had to find out, or his head was going to explode for sure.

Perhaps the family genius had a clue.

Bowser unlocked the door and walked down to his oldest son's room. He stayed up late every night anyway. He opened the door, and a thick smog greeted him. Ah, the weekly explosion had taken place. "Kooky, you in there?" Bowser called.

"Coming!" a voice answered.

Ludwig Von Koopa appeared, his face and labcoat covered in a black soot and his wild, blue hair sticking in all directions. He yawned. "Vat do you need, King Dad?"

"I need some research done on Humans," Bowser said, feeling his displeasure on that word.

"Luckily I keep a research file on every species known to Koopa," Ludwig said, reaching for a picture of some guy in a suit. "The common urban man vears a suit, carries a briefcase, and vorks in an office."

"That doesn't sound like Mario at all!" Bowser yelled.

"Oh, this is about Mario," Ludwig said, closing the file and jumping onto his computer chair. He typed a few lines of scientific equations and pressed the enter key. "There's a new program I've been working on. I can figure out the main weakness of a creature just by typing in a basic but complex code." He typed in another line of equations, and another line of data came up on the screen.

"This says that due to the speed of a varp pipe, it reconfigures the immune system of Humans. An extremely flammable substance called Soxium Deonscide vill render them helpless...! Oh my DAD! Soxium Deonscide... Rare but powerful..." he mused.

"Well, where do we find Soxium whatever?" Bowser demanded.

"It's found in the flesh of some types of trout," Ludwig said.

"... What's a trout?" Bowser asked.

"I believe it's an Earth fish," Ludwig said. "But ve could also get this from some types of Cheep Cheep."

"Bwahaha, let's get some Cheep Cheep out of your tank and go!" Bowser said.

"This solution vill take time, but I suppose it'll be ready by tomorrow," Ludwig answered.

"Great," Bowser said, then yawned. "Seeya in the morning."

Chapter 2: Defeat Day

The next morning, Bowser didn't have to wait long for Ludwig to show up with the Soxium Deonscide.

"It's done?!" Bowser asked. He was excited more than anything. "Tell ya what, give me it, and you'll get a major advance of your allowance!"

"Of course!" Ludwig said, handing him the liquid. "Remember, all you have to do is splash some on their skin, and they'll be helpless!"

"Seeya after they're dead," Bowser said excitedly.

Crash!

That sound always meant trouble.

Bowser bashed down the door to find Mario and Luigi, who immediately took fighting stances. Bowser merely laughed.

"Such confidence. If only you knew what real pain felt like," Bowser said.

"What are you talking about?" Mario asked.

"All these years, Mario Bros. All these years I've been repeatedly beat up and broken. Nothing spared," Bowser said angrily. "You will now give in to me, or feel this pain." He held up the container of metallic blue liquid.

"... Liquid?" Mario said.

"Not just any liquid," Bowser said. "Give in to me. Or you will soon die."

"We'd never give in to you," Mario said.

"Uh... Yeah... What did you say that liquid did?" Luigi said.

"Luigi, snap out of it, what's the worst that could happen?" Mario tried to get his younger brother to be calmer.

Bowser, with a quick flick of his wrist and a "Have it your own way, then!" splashed the liquid all over Mario and Luigi.

"Ew... Gross!" they said. In a few seconds, they fell to the floor and were too weak to get up.

"Hah!" Bowser said with a grin. "Your incompetence will cost you!"

"W-what is this?!" Mario asked.

"Oh, just some Soxium something, I forgot," Bowser said.

Soxium... What? Mario wondered. He had to think fast, everything was becoming slightly blurred.

"You just... had to... say that..." he heard Luigi mumble. He was then silent.

Bowser lifted an unmoving Luigi into the air by his collar. "You want the same thing that happened to your brother to happen to you?!" Bowser asked menacingly.

"L-Luigi!" Mario yelled, shocked. He was not breathing.

Bowser threw him aside. "Well?" Bowser asked. "I'm waiting!"

"I'll never give in to you!" Mario yelled. By now, he could hardly see.

"Then witness Death itself, Mario," Bowser replied simply. Mario tried to struggle, but it was as if a hard weight was pressing him to the ground. Then everything went black.

Chapter 3: Another Brother

Mario seemed to be floating through time and space itself. He witnessed moments of his life, some he would always cherish. That faithful day they fell into the warp pipe... Meeting Peach for the first time... And other memories he'd rather forget. Pauline's kidnapping... His first fight with Bowser... Finally, Bowser's final words to him. Witness Death itself.

It seemed he'd be doomed to float here forever. That is, until he found other dead people to share the misery with.

It was a large town, set on a floating platform. As he walked around, completely lost, he decided to at least get directions to where he was supposed to go.

"Uh, excuse me, do you know the way around here?" he asked a Goomba.

"Oh, your kind is in the far left Stargate," he said.

His kind? He must have meant Humans. He walked as far left as he could go until he came to a large gate, guarded by a Koopa Troopa.

"Name?" he asked.

"Mario Mario," he replied.

"Oh, your two brothers are already here. One came just a few minutes ago," he said. "Enter. They'll explain."

Two brothers?/ Mario thought. He only had one brother... Right?

Millions of people were walking around the area. Some faces he recognized from Mushroom history books. He spotted a figure wearing overalls, a green hat, and a green shirt. He ran toward his brother as fast as he could. "Luigi!" He yelled.

Luigi, hearing his name, spun around. "Mario?!" he questioned. "I've been looking everywhere for you!"

"I just got here," Mario replied.

"Weird, when I got here, the Koopa Troopa at the gate said that my brother had already shown up," Luigi mused. "And like I said earlier, you just had to say What's the worst that could happen?"

"Yeah, sorry. He told me I had two brothers," Mario said, "and that they would explain where we are, though I already have a clue."

"You think we could have another brother?" Luigi asked.

"Hey!" a voice shouted. They both looked in that direction, and a person with a mustache and wearing blue overalls, a white shirt, and a white hat with an A printed on it rushed over to them.

"Oh, how embarrassing, we all died wearing almost the same thing!" he said, laughing. "My name's Antonio, you guys?"

"Uh, I'm Mario, and this is my brother, Luigi," Mario introduced.

"Hi," Luigi said, trying to sound friendly even though he was nervous.

"Mario and Luigi, ok, got it," he replied. "You seem familiar, you guys used to live in Brooklyn, by any chance?"

"Yes, we did, but we live in the Mushroom Kingdom now," Luigi replied.

"What are you wearing?" Antonio asked. He seemed to like to bounce from subject to subject. "Only people from my family wear... waitaminute, it's all piecing together. The overalls, Brooklyn, and you guys are brothers!"

"... Wha?" Mario and Luigi asked. They probably could have guessed who he was if they weren't so confused.

Antonio stuck out his hand. "I'm Antonio Mario, your older brother. Welcome to the AfterWorld."

Chapter 4: Defeat Day Celebrations

Peach sat on a chair, facing the window.

Everything in her life was going quite smoothly. Bowser hadn't attacked in days, the video game contest was tomorrow, and, on top of that, it was a beautiful day.

Then Bowser crashed in.

"What?! How did you-" Peach started.

"Sorry to barge in on you, but my purpose in life is almost fulfilled," Bowser said a little too confidently.

"What do you mean?" Peach asked.

"What I mean is Mario and Luigi are dead," Bowser replied.

Peach couldn't talk for a moment. Bowser had to be lying. There was no way they could be dead. But then again, he did seem overly happy...

"N-no! You're lying!" Peach shouted.

"Sorry, but I'm serious. Sorry," Bowser shrugged, not sounding sorry at all. Peach ran for her life.

It wasn't long before Bowser cornered her, and Peach thought about what was about to happen. Bowser would rule this kingdom one way or another. If she stayed alive, she'd have to face the Mushroomers. She'd also have the shadow of her past life hanging over her, and Bowser's rule mocking her each day. Not only that, but she’d be living a life without Mario and Luigi.

Maybe if she died, she could see them again.

Let him rule the Mushroom Kingdom. She wouldn't care if she was dead.

"Kill me," Peach told him. "You can have the Mushroom Kingdom, my life was over before it began."

Peach closed her eyes for a final time while Bowser hesitated, then did his stomping thing. Peach, well, you know.

Bowser picked up her crown and placed it on his own head, finally ruling the Mushroom Kingdom, not quite believing he'd killed three people in one day.

Chapter 5: Player 3

"Mom and Dad never told us about another brother," Luigi said in amazement.

"I'm older than both of you. I was born before you two, then sent to different parents, since we were all born in the Mushroom Kingdom," Antonio explained.

"Huh? We were born in Brooklyn," Mario corrected.

"Nope," Antonio said. "We where all sent to Brooklyn to grow up. You two, I'm sorry to say, were adopted. During this transaction, I somehow got mixed up with other babies. So I was separated from you guys. I died in a car accident."

"So...  you're saying we're dead?" Luigi asked.

"That's what I'm sayin'," Antonio said.

"Oh no!" Mario said, remembering something he had forgotten over the shock of learning about his new brother. "Peach! The Mushroom Kingdom! Bowser! Oh no, this is really bad..."

"Wha? Explain, please," Antonio said in that annoying singsong voice.

"I was killed by Bowser, and so was Luigi," Mario explained. "He's going to takeover the Mushroom Kingdom and kill Peach if we don't get out of here!"

"What does this Peach look like?" Antonio asked.

"She has blond hair, a pink dress, and blue eyes, why?" Mario answered.

"That's her over there," Antonio said, pointing to the gate entrance.

Mario spun around. Sure enough, Peach stood there, dazed. Mario ran over to her. "Peach!" he yelled.

"Mario?" she said. She saw him, and smiled. "Oh wow, I thought I'd be lost here. Where am I, anyway?"

"The AfterWorld, at least that's what Antonio says," Mario replied.

"Who's Antonio?" Peach asked.

"Him," Mario replied, pointing to Antonio.

He walked up to Peach and stuck out his hand. "Hiya!" he said happily. "I'm Antonio Mario, what's your name?"

Peach just looked at him for a moment. How could anyone be so happy, yet so irritating at the same time? Finally, she shook his hand and said, "Princess Peach Toadstool. Pleased to meet you. But did you say that your last name is Mario?"

"Yep, I'm Mario and Luigi's older brother, but that's beside the point," Antonio said. "From what I hear, you guys have some unfinished business in the mortal world. Somethin' about a Bowser?"

"Correct, but I don't see how we can-" Peach started, but suddenly a figure that was running very fast crashed at full force into her.

"Peach! Peach!" the person yelled.

"M-Mom?!" Peach shouted in shock.

Chapter 6: Goodbye, King Dad

"All you did was rely on me for my superior intelligence!" Ludwig yelled at his father, who was sitting on the Mushroom Kingdom throne. "I made the potion that defeated the Mario Brothers, I should be the one sitting upon that throne!"

"You can't talk to me that way!" Bowser said back to his son, equally as angry. "I'm the king of this place, I'm older than you, and I'm your father!"

"Speaking to me in this manner will cost you, Bowser!" Ludwig snarled.

"What did you just call me?!" Bowser questioned. Nobody ever, ever dared to call him anything besides King Koopa, or King Dad in their case.

"I said Bowser! Go ahead and fry me to a crisp!" Ludwig replied angrily. "It'll be vorth it if I get to get a word in edgewise!"

"Go! Leave this kingdom, and don't come back," Bowser said. "I don't care where, I just don't want to see your sorry face again!"

"Good, then!" Ludwig said, and after the last spike of his shell disappeared around the corner, he was gone forever.

Bowser was satisfied for a moment. But then, he felt an emotion he had never felt in his whole life, no matter what he did. And now it was here.

Regret.

Chapter 7: Queen Toadstool

"Mom! I thought I'd never see you again!" Peach said happily.

"Me neither, but that's not what I'm here for," she said, brushing herself off. "Why are you here at such a young age? Is my kingdom ok? Who are these people? And what did you do with your hair since I left?!"

Mario, Luigi, and Antonio had to suppress a laugh. Peach blushed and touched her hair. "Uh, this is Mario, Luigi, and Antonio."

"I'm Queen Strawberry Toadstool," she said, shaking their hands. "Nice to meet you."

"You too," Mario replied. "Peach told us a lot about you."

"Nice to finally meet you," Luigi said.

"And Antonio... I believe we've met..." She did not look happy.

"Uh, yeah," Antonio said uneasily. "Sorry 'bout that."

"What'd he do?" Luigi asked.

"He had a hand in my death," Strawberry replied. "Long story, not pretty. Anyhow, why are you here?"

Peach informed her mother about what had happened, and how they needed to save the kingdom.

"Peach Toadstool, you can be such an airhead at times!" Strawberry fumed. "You just let Bowser kill you?! Did you once think about the kingdom?!"

"I knew the kingdom was doomed with Mario and Luigi dead!" Peach argued, raising her arms. "What would the Mushroomers think of me if I were still living, standing by as Bowser ruled their lives? I'm better off here."

Peach turned around and walked away. Strawberry made to go after her, but decided against it.

She sighed. Ignoring Antonio, she said, "Mario, Luigi. Let's talk about getting you back to the mortal world."

Chapter 8: The Unfinished Sentence

"No, no, and not yes!" Bowser shouted for the hundredth time in the last five minutes.

"But King Dad-" Lemmy started.

"We'd be a big help-" Iggy said.

"If we went and looked for Ludwig," Lemmy finished.

"Ok, fine!" Bowser said, giving up. "But only one of you can go, it'd look suspicious if you two were following each other around."

"Ok, I'll go," Lemmy declared.

"In your dreams," Iggy retorted. "I can spy better."

"I'm older!" Lemmy argued.

"I'm bigger!" Iggy retorted. Soon they were fighting all out, holding nothing back. It was pretty ugly. Bowser tried to stop them, but no matter what, they just seemed to want to kill each other. He called in Kamek.

"Yes, King Bowser?" he asked.

"Pry these two apart!" Bowser ordered.

"I don't think Kamek can-" Lemmy started, but no answer. "Iggy? Iggy?!"

"Hold on, I can revive him," Kamek said, trying to calm him down. "Sonificis-"

"Say something!" Lemmy seemed to just want to try to wake him up himself.

"No! No! You have to let me finish the-" Kamek started, but then a huge explosion engulfed all three of them. Kamek had told Bowser about this: an unfinished spell confuses a wand, resulting in an explosion.

"Wha?! No!" Bowser yelled. But it wasn't like Iggy, Lemmy, or Kamek could hear him anymore.

Chapter 9: Back to the Better (Or Worse)

"Now, this'll be extremely hard to arrange, so just stay here for a second," Strawberry told them.

"I'd better come too, it takes a lot of work to set this up," Antonio added, and they took off.

Pretty much everything that had happened so far had been like a big fist coming up from the sky and whacking them in the face. So it was pretty painful. Not just Bowser taking over, but also they were dead.

"D'you think there's any chance the kingdom will be restored?" Luigi asked Mario.

"There has to be. There's no way there's not," Mario replied. "I hope."

"Yeah, but how are we going to get back to the living world if we're dead?" Luigi wondered.

"We'll be able to get there," Mario replied. "I know we will."

"Mario, you've been dodging bad guys and avoiding game over all your life," Luigi said. "And now that it's actually happened, you're still trying to avoid it."

"What are you talking about?" Mario asked. "I can accept this. I just have a feeling we'll make it back, is all."

"Yeah, but what if we don't?" Luigi replied. "What happens then? And what did kill us, anyway?"

"Please stop asking all these questions," said Mario. "I don't know, I'm not sure I want to."

But deep down, he knew Luigi was right. They might be here forever.

Chapter 10: Avoiding the Truth

"As you've probably noticed," Bowser started, "Lemmy, Iggy, and Kamek aren't around."

"Who wouldn't notice?" Larry replied. "Lemmy and Iggy are always funning up the place, and Kamek makes it interesting."

"Are they away on a trip or something?" Wendy asked. "I heard Lemmy and Iggy talking about going after Ludwig."

"Uh... yeah. Lemmy and Iggy went after Ludwig, and Kamek went with them to keep an eye on them," Bowser lied.

"Ok, so they'll be back soon?' Roy asked. "I miss beating up Iggy."

"Um, yep. Real soon," Bowser responded. How could he tell them what happened? They wouldn't take it too well…

A couple weeks later, the remaining Koopalings had started to get suspicious.

"Are you sure they're coming back?" Wendy had asked him one day.

"Um, call all the Koopa Kids to the main hall, I need to speak with them." Bowser couldn't answer that. He might as well tell them all the truth.

A little while later, all four of them were gathered in front of him, waiting.

Oh DAD, what do I do?! he wondered.

"Well?" Morton asked. "I came here to hear some talking, even though I usually do the talking, but maybe this time King Dad will talk about one topic for hours and hours and possibly even years and-"

"Shut up!" Bowser interrupted. "I called you all here to tell you something about Lemmy, Iggy, and Kamek."

The room went silent. Even Morton.

"Uh..." Bowser couldn't stop here. He had their attention, he'd asked for it. He wouldn't lie.

"They're kinda... not gonna be here anymore," he continued.

"What do you mean by dat?" Roy asked. Wow, even he was concerned.

"What I mean is that... Oh, don't you get the message already?!" Bowser yelled. He was getting impatient. He did not want to use the word “dead”.

That word always came so easily when talking about his enemies. Didn't he consider himself strong? Why couldn't he use it for all situations like this?

"Uh... No," Roy replied. Was he really this dumb?

"Do I have to spell this out for you?!" Bowser asked, angered. He obviously didn't know how painful this was.

"Please do," Roy said.

Oh no, Bowser was not going any further with this. He stood up and stormed out, leaving his kids' bewildered expressions behind him.

Chapter 11: Home at Last

"Yes! We did it!" Strawberry yelled, rushing toward Mario and Luigi. Antonio followed.

"We explained the situation to the Mortal/Immortal Guards, and they said it was ok for you to save your kingdom," Antonio said, holding up a certificate with a messy signature scrawled on it.

"So we can go back?" Luigi asked, a smile growing on his face.

"Yep," Strawberry answered. "You have a reason to go back."

"Wait," Mario said, "can we ever come back here?"

"Only when you die," Strawberry answered. "Why?"

"No reason," Mario answered. "But before we go, I need to find someone."

"Are you looking for my Peach?" Strawberry asked. "Because your chances of finding a particular person here are-"

"I don't care!" Mario interrupted. "I can't leave her here."

"I'll help you," Luigi said.

"No, thanks," Mario replied. "I don't need any help."

"You always say that," Luigi argued. "Look where that got you."

"I have good reasons to say no," Mario replied. "And don't say things like that. You're here too."

"So?"

Mario gave up. "Fine, let's go."

They ran in the direction that Peach had left, looking all over for any sign of her. This was going to be extremely difficult, there where probably many generations of her family that looked like her.

"Why did she have to leave like that?!" Mario asked himself. "We might never see her again!"

"We'll find her," Luigi said.

"Quit being so optimistic," Mario snapped.

"Excuse me, Mr. We'll-get-out-of-here!" Luigi retorted.

"I'm sorry I let you come with me," Mario said.

"I wish someone else was my brother," Luigi replied. "Anyone's better than you."

"Antonio's right over there." Mario pointed toward their older brother. "Why don't you start following him around?"

"Why are we fighting?" Luigi asked. "This is idiotic."

Mario sighed. "You're right. This is just so frustrating."

"I can imagine so," Luigi said. "But I think our luck is beginning to turn."

"How so?" Mario asked.

"Because Peach is standing right over there." Luigi pointed toward a wall. Peach was sitting against it, and she did not look happy. Mario and Luigi rushed over to her.

"Go away," she said as soon as she saw them. "I know my mother sent you."

"No, she didn't," Luigi replied.

"We're here because we found a way get back to the Mushroom Kingdom," Mario added. "Y'know, if you want to come with us."

"If Bowser killed you once, he could probably do it again," Peach answered. "And besides, my mom would help us. I really don't want her help at all."

"Why are you so angry at your mother?" Mario asked.

"Because she's so overpowering!" Peach practically shouted. Some of the people standing around them stopped and looked at them, but returned to their conversations. "Peach, do your chores! Peach, that's not the best you can do! When she ruled the Mushroom Kingdom, she wasn't nice at all. I was almost glad when I inherited the throne."

"First, I'm not sure Bowser could kill us twice, we didn't get a chance to defend ourselves," Mario explained. "Second, your mother is just trying to help us. Shouldn't you give her another chance?"

"You wouldn't believe how many chances I've given her," Peach said coldly. She sighed. "I'll come with you only because if I don't, I'll have to live with her forever."

"She just has your best interest at heart," Luigi shrugged.

She hung her head. "I know."

"Okay, you three ready?" Strawberry asked. They nodded.

"Antonio," Mario said suddenly, "do you, by any chance, want to come back with us?

Peach waved her hands and Luigi sliced one finger across his neck several times. Mario rolled his eyes.

"That's really nice of you," Antonio said. "But I can't. This is where I belong. I can't go back to the mortal world, I've lived here too long. I guess I'll never get a chance to be you guys' brother, but I'll see you again."

"Enough," Strawberry cut in. She held out a chunk of rusted metal. "All three of you, hang onto this. And for the love of God, don't let go!" They grabbed it. "Both hands, Peach!"

"Yes, Mother," Peach muttered, and grasped it with her other hand.

"Hearts above, power below,
Hails this land that nobody knows.
For thy be together, but shall be apart,
Send these three back to the start!"

The chant cut into them, sending a chill up their spines. They were engulfed in a metallic blue light, and the metal zoomed upward at an alarming speed. It was hard to keep their grip.

"I'm slipping!" Luigi shouted. "Help!"

He almost let go, but Mario and Peach grabbed both his hands at the very last second. "Thank you," he said gratefully.

Chapter 12: Back to the Start

When the travel came to a stop, they found themselves in a dark Mushroom Kingdom, completely alone. They looked around, gathering their wits. The metal had disappeared.

"Something must have-" Peach started, but was interrupted by a high-pitched shriek. They all spun around. A small Mushroomer, probably about 5 or 6 years old, stood there, wide-eyed and shaking.

"GHOSTS!!!" he screamed. He ran into a house and closed the door.

"Oh, I forgot we were dead," Mario recalled.

"Whatever, let's go kick Bowser's butt," Luigi suggested.

"He should be in Mushroom Castle," Peach said.

Bowser stared out the window at the gloomy, rainy day. He missed Koopa Kastle so much. The darkness, the thunderstorms, the cold.

He mostly missed his old life. Fighting Mario and Luigi was pretty much the only thing he did, and kidnapping Peach, but obviously he couldn't do that anymore.

The doors burst open. He was surprised to find Mario, Luigi, and Peach standing there. He yelled; weren't they dead?

"Hi, Bowser," Peach said casually. "I believe I'll be taking my crown back now."

"Not on your life," Bowser replied. "Even if you are alive."

"We're alive," Mario said. "I assure you."

"Wait, if you're still alive, what about Lemmy, Iggy, and Kamek?" Bowser asked.

"What about them?" Mario asked.

"They- Never mind," Bowser reconsidered. "Let's just get to the good part."

Bowser inhaled, then exhaled a stream of orange flames. Mario jumped, his shoes barely missing it. He ran up to Bowser ad attempted to punch him in the face, but he dodged it easily.

"Wow, when did you become agile?" Mario asked.

"None of your stupid business!" Bowser retorted. He kicked Mario in the stomach, sending him sliding across the room to where Peach and Luigi stood.

"Hi," Mario said casually, standing. "Wanna help?"

"Of course," Peach said, taking out her parasol. "I've been waiting for this for a long time!" She didn't wait for Mario and Luigi for an instant. She ran and slapped Bowser in the face with the umbrella, sending him stumbling into a lamp, which collapsed onto his head. Luigi laughed.

"Oh, you think that's funny?!" Bowser yelled, standing up and brushing himself off. "I'll show you!"

He ran toward the Brothers, who instinctively jumped, pushing off Bowser's head with their feet.

"Augh!" he yelled. "This isn't over!"

What to do next? Mario ran over to a long table that held a bottle of the same ominous blue liquid that had killed them, probably left there for Bowser to defend himself from any other Humans. He unscrewed the bottle cap and splashed it all over Bowser.

Bowser laughed. "Nice try, but Soxium thingy doesn't work on Koopas!"

"Exactly," Mario said. He spotted three wands hanging on the wall, two Koopa wands and one Magikoopa wand. Lemmy, Iggy, and Kamek's, perhaps? No time now, he snatched a Koopa wand and pointed it at Bowser.

"One move and I turn you into a Human!" Mario said. A look of shock and remorse came over the Koopa King's face.

"You wouldn't."

"Oh yes, I would."

A long moment passed. On one hand, he'd stay alive, but live a life of failure. On the other hand, he'd die. What happens when you die anyhow? He decided to ask them.

"Well, first..." Mario began, but no thought entered his mind. He had completely forgotten. He heard a voice that sounded like Antonio. "It's for your own good. Don't tell anyone. I'm going to return your memory now."

"Never mind."

"In that case, I'm going back to my castle. Ruling this kingdom along with this one was too much anyhow."

Epilogue:

Mario and Luigi went back to their house just outside of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario valued his luck, and decided to think out battle plans a little more often. Luigi was not so much of a coward anymore.

Peach went back to ruling her kingdom, and enforced some new laws. She liked being ruler a lot more.

Bowser went back to his Kastle. He told his remaining Koopalings the truth about Lemmy, Iggy, and Kamek. He made regular attacks on the Mushroom Kingdom, knowing not to go too far over the line.
