The Legend of Shy Away and the Eight Pure Hearts

By Slike373

Johnny got up before Shy Away could even ask for a name. He frowned, and took out his map. The next spot was… Land's End! And along with it… Bean Valley! He was ecstatic about everything. "I'm so happy I could rhyme!" he sang, but dark clouds filled the air as he said the sentence. Shy Away ignored it. "Yippee!" Shy Away cheered, full of glee.

He fluttered, and stuttered on his way to Land's End.

With his experience, he swerved at every odd and end.

Finally he found a colossal cliff.

To him, that and a staircase got a reply of "What's the diff?"

He dashingly flew through all of the mountain.

He still wished he could find a water fountain.

"I do not!" sang Shy Away, drinking from his can, anything but distraught.

A brick flew at his head, and I assure it was painful.

He got back up, and was very disdainful.

Shy Away whined, "It would be appreciated if you would stop rhyming!"

A Spiny fell off a cliff with good location and timing.

Shy Away found needles in his head, screamed, and threw a brick at the narrator.

But it was pointless, as he cannot be defeated. Not now, not later.

Shy Away thought, and snapped his fingers.

His thought did it right. The way his mind lingers.

"You're going down, you narrating poet!"

The narrator didn't think so, and laughed to show it.

Shy Away dropped a seed in the ground, pointless it was.

He added fertilizer, and it came up with a buzz.

Shy Away looked at his tree, and took off an orange.

.,, Aww, Banana Muffins! Now if only I could make a door hinge relevant to the story. *explodes*

"Can we get a new narrator?"

"Nope. Just talk in third person, no one will notice."

"Now they will."

"Fine, I'll narrate. Writing the story, and narrating. Grumble," said Slike373.

============================================================================

By now Shy Away was in the desert of Land's End. An Armored Ant came up out of nowhere.

"'Ey! It's Shy Away! Fancy seein' you here, again! Where ya headed?"

Shy Away smiled. "I'm going to Bean Valley. My plants haven't been watered for a long time!

The Armored Ant frowned. "That won't be a problem, trust me. But man, you got to go to Monstro Town! They're all complaining about something, and you gotta keep up with the news!"

Shy Away thought he might find where the sage was, and followed his friend as it sank into the whirlpoll of sand. His friend continued to guide him through the pointless Belome Temple, and finally, Shy Away fell face-first into Monstro Town. He was greeted by Goombas, Terrapins, Swoopulas, Blarggs, and... OH MY GOD, IT'S HIDEOUS. Wait, that's just MONSTERMAMA. False alarm.

"VOLCANO IN TROUBLE. SAD," said a Blargg.

"ERUPTIONS ARE CUTTING OFF BUSINESS!" said a Goomba.

Shy Away slipped past the distraught villagers and went through the exit and back to the overworld. He fluttered to Bean Valley with ease, and realized his plants didn't need watering.

CRACKLEFLABLOOOOOOOSHWHAM!

Shy Away stared at the sky. A storm raged with utmost... rage. Bean Valley was flooding, and Shy Away's beloved plants were drowning. Could this be the work of the Volcano? It must be. Storms like this don't ever happen in Bean Valley. He fluttered off to Barrel Volcano, as lightning crashed down at him. He awoke ten minutes later, surging with power. He raised one of his arms and made a bolt of electricity crash down. Shy Away had learned Bolt!

He placed his watering can into hammer space and crawled through Bean Valley. He eventually reached the edge of the storm. It was perfectly lit, and joyous. It was like Grass Land had all of a sudden turned into Dark Land. Not like they share a border or anything. "If it's the Volcano, why is it not? Too many questions! I'd better get this done quick, before all of my plants go down for the count!"

He was able to fly up Barrel Volcano, and he went in the same way. Shy Away went in, but he used the wrong entrance. As in, he used the way in that Mario took. He traveled through the boring Volcano. Dry Bones were very common, and so were Dry Goombas, Dry Blarggs, and for some odd reason, Dry Podoboos. But it was a boring place. We're cutting to commercials now.

"DK! DONKEY KONG! DK! DONKEY KONG IS HERE! Yup, it's me, Donkey Kong. I've found people shortening my name to DK, and that's cool. But don't call me Donkey. You got that? I'm not a mule!"

Cranky turns him into a donkey using some LAZAH.

"HEEHAWW! HEEHAWW!"

"I can't believe it's not butter!"

"It IS butter, you idiot!"

"DGIOAERGHAERIOGUH"

"Gee, it sure is boring around here."

"Are authors starting to get too darn lazy to make good commercials? They're probably making their story on a Saturday morning at 11:42 AM. Everyone knows that's when you're the most lazy."

Shy Away is currently flying in circles, while a group of Dry Bones try throwing bones at him. "I tried hitting them with my watering can, but they KEEP COMING BACK!" He fires a bolt, and all of them spontaneously explode. "Yay!"

He continues fluttering his way to the edge of Barrel Volcano, when he bumps into a muscular Toad standing in a doorway. "I THOUGHT I heard wing flaps. Come on in!" he says.

Shy Away goes in, and sees the place is very rundown. Hinopio talks to Shy Away. "You need a rest? There's a big monster up ahead. Huge, actually. You'll want everything you got."

Shy Away nodded, and Hiniopio directed him to a bunch of boxes. Shy Away sighed, and got a good night's sleep.

Half of one, anyways.

Shy Away heard rustling and a scream that woke him up. He drearily opened his eyes to see no one in the room with him. He armed his watering can and trudged forward groggily. He found those weird Dry Podoboos jumping up and down between the parts of a falling bridge. Shy Away flew around them, looking for the source of the scream, when he found a thin aisle with lava on the side. In the center was a skeleton. More specifically, it was Dry Bowser.

Shy Away gasped, and saw Hinopio on the other side, unconscious, on top of a cliff. Also on the other side, Shy Away saw a switch that probably got rid of the aisle. If Shy Away could just fly around, he could…

He felt a sharp pain in his wings. A wishbone, held by a sneaky skeleton, had been used to clip his wings. He fell abruptly to the ground, and saw Dry Bowser throwing bones everywhere, hopping up and down. He dashed for his chance, but got smashed.

Shy Away, now a pancake, inflated himself back up. He couldn't fly, and he couldn't dash. Maybe he had a plant to do the job! He found a single Piranha Plant seed and tossed it in. He added fertilizer, but no water. He hopped on the plant's head, then onto the switch on the other side. The aisle broke, and Dry Bowser fell into the magma. It was an easy Pure Heart to get, but…

A quake interrupted Shy Away's thoughts. Dry Bowser hopped up on the side next to the entrance, took out Lava Piranha, and faced Shy Away. The switch changed places. Shy Away hopped up to Hinopio and nudged the Toad. He woke up and Shy Away showed his wings. The wishbone was taken off, and Shy Away flew to the switch. The same thing happened again. Third time is always the charm with Bowser, so Shy Away did it again.

It still didn't work. This monster was thoroughly immune to magma, and Shy Away didn't have anything else.

Or did he? He fluttered over and hit the switch again. Dry Bowser sank, but this time, Shy Away threw his prized possession. A tear rolled down his face once he threw his watering can into the fire. The magma hardened into stone, and Dry Bowser sank to the depths. But was it worth it? Who knows?

The Pure Heart went into Hinopio, and he woke up. Shy Away had found the sage of perseverance in the Volcano. He decided the view of his plants would cheer him up, so he climbed through the course the Axem Rangers ran through.

He hopped on the spring and came out of the Volcano. The storm still raged, and Shy Away got a better look at the clouds. The sage of courage in the sky… The sky!

He flew up to Nimbus Land, now a black, stormy cloud.
