This story takes place before the Mario Brothers or Bowser were born. Toadsworth was not but a lad. It was a time when Pidgits could still fly without their carpets! The evil king of the Koopas at the time was none other than Morton Koopa Senior, who was one of the worst Koopa kings in all of history.
This story takes place on Yoshi's Island. The island used to be a bit bigger than it is now, you know. It had another section that was filled with great big trees that were incredibly tall! On the ground, Yoshis roamed, while on the branches you might have seen a monkey or two. But on the very top of the trees, lay a town. The town was home to all the Pidgits on the island, and almost to all on the planet. It was a quaint little town. There was a martial arts school at the town dojo, a town food stand, and a library along with some small shops. Martial arts and the act of fighting was the thing that all Pidgits learned. Educational school was not needed, only fighting was necessary to know. All the Pidgits liked to keep to their own clan mainly, but were friends with the Yoshis. In the Pidgit culture, names were VERY important. A name had to rhyme with the word "Pidgit" or else the bird would be shunned.
We start on one ordinary day during
martial arts class...
Fidget: I don't want to have to sit
still and read this book on Kung Fu, I want to get up and DO the moves!
Can I please, Master Yigit?
Master Yigit: No. You must learn patience.
Read the book and soak in the knowledge.
Zigit: Oh... I thought we were in the
Karate section...
Master Yigit: *sigh* Will you ever
listen? I told you chapter 4 of the Kung Fu section.
Zigit: I am sorry, Master Yigit. It
won't happen again.
Master Yigit: It is ok, just pay attention
next time. And read the chapter for homework tonight. Now, it is time to
spar-
Fidget: Finally!
Master Yigit: *ahem* Except for Fidgit
and Zigit.
Fidget: ******!
Master Yigit: I will not have that
sort of language in this dojo!
Fidget: Forgive me, Master Yigit.
Kigit: (whispering) You boys always
get into trouble.
And so, the two crows watched as the
other students fought in the arenas. That evening the two went home, not
realizing that it would be their last normal day on Yoshi's Island for
the rest of their lives.
The next morning, all the students got
up bright and early, and headed off for the town dojo.
Kigit: Wait up!
Zigit: What do you want?
Kigit: I wanted to know if you want
me to help teach you that move you have been struggling with.
Zigit: Thanks, but I don't want to
learn how to do Tai-Quan-Do like a girl.
That remark resulted in Kigit's smile
quickly turning into an angry frown.
Kigit: Are you saying that girls aren't
as good as boys?!
Zigit: Well... yeah.
That was it for Kigit. Kigit side-kicked
Zigit, then decked him a few times in the mouth. Then she did a roundhouse
kick and sent Zigit soaring.
Kigit: That'll teach you, you jerk!
Zigit lay on the ground dumbfounded.
As he was staring up at the sky, he saw a ship flying overhead.
Zigit: That's strange... How is that
boat flying?
Master Yigit: Oh no...
The section that connected Yoshi’s Island to the Pidgits’ small area had cracked off and was now floating away from the island... and rapidly.
Master Yigit: Stop fighting, and fly for the island! Hurry!
But the doomship came down in between the piece of Yoshi’s Island that was floating away and the mainland. It started firing mercilessly at the Pidgits, who were trying to get to the mainland. Only about two made it, but were then Game Over’d once they touched the mainland. Why did the doomship want to Game Over the Pidgits or stop them from reaching the mainland? So they could wipe all the Pidgits off of Plit? But why?
Master Yigit called back the few Pidgits left.
Master Yigit: It’s hopeless, we only risk losing more Pidgits... How many did we lose? Count ‘em up, Digit.
Digit: Exactly 34.
Master Yigit: ... Oh my.
Digit: I guess about ten of us are left, maybe more, maybe less.
Kigit: What WAS that?!
Master Yigit: A doomship, one of Morton Koopa’s new evil inventions. Used only for destruction.
Fidget: Why would he do that to us?!
Master Yigit: He is completely evil, nothing but hateful. I know why he wants us, he wants us apart from Yoshi’s Island so he can destroy it without good fighters... Then, he will recruit us for his army, and then, all hope is lost.
Digit: We don’t have to fight for him, you know.
Master Yigit: Oh yes we will. Word has come to my ears of a different dimension, he is to send as many creatures there as he can. Then he can somehow make us fight for him... Shy Guys were the first to go.
Kigit: But they were so cute and friendly! They always would help out the community.
Master Yigit: About half of the Shy Guys disappeared about a year ago. And do you remember the creature known as a Phanto?
Kigit: Not really, but I’ve seen drawings of them, and heard tales of them. I thought they were myth.
Digit: ... I take it they aren’t just myth.
Master Yigit: Correct you are, young Digit. Phantos used to roam Yoshi’s Island when you all were not but fledglings. They were kidnapped, nobody knows quite how, but all of a sudden, POOF, they were gone. Cobrats, Beezos, Ostros, Porcupos, Tweeters, and even the legendary Big Guys are gone as well!
Fidget: Big Guys? What’s that?
Master Yigit: Giant Shy Guys! Three or four times the size of normal Shy Guys! Unfortunately, I’ve heard for a long time that we were to be next. I said it was impossible and that they wouldn’t dare to catch the greatest of fighters…
Kigit was watching Yoshi’s Island float off into the distance. Why did we quit so easily? Why did Master Yigit make us pull back? We could have made it to the Island. We could have simply flown around, then attacked the doomship from the back. Why did they want us so bad? Or any of those characters and species he mentioned? Why couldn’t we lead normal lives...? Why did this have to happen... thought Kigit, now sad with the thought of losing Yoshi’s Island... possibly forever. Will we ever be able to get back? What will we do now?
Master Yigit: We must forget Yoshi’s Island for now, Kigit. We must continue on, to find a place to hide... and quick.
Kigit’s eyebrows raised in surprise. How did he know what I was thinking? It was almost like he could read my mind… she thought.
Master Yigit: I can. I have the power of telepathy.
Kigit: ... What? You... have a power?
Master Yigit: Yes, as do you all.
Digit: We do?!
Master Yigit: Yes. And you must use them wisely, but first we must hide. Who knows what is on our tail now...?
The camera zooms out and looks behind them down at the water. A dark shape moved swiftly through the water behind the floating isle.
*******************
Morton Koopa: Do you hear me, Master General?!
General Red-Shell: Y-Yes, King Morton. Your wishes will be carried out on time.
Morton Koopa: If you fail, you know what will happen.
General Red-Shell: Y-Y-Yes, K-King Morton. I know...
Morton: I want those Pidgits in the Dimension by tomorrow!! I want the old one dead, he may be able to help them escape. Without their master they will be helpless. They will try to hide so you must be swift. And you should go in a disguise.
General Red-Shell: Yes sir, I’ll g-go right away.
The general dashed away to carry out the evil king’s command. Morton Koopa Senior, although he wasn’t a senior yet, went to the edge of the boat and looked out at the horizon.
Morton Koopa: You will be mine... as will all of Yoshi’s Island. You may think you are the best flyers and fighters on the planet... but we’ll see about that. Run free while you can, because we will catch up with you, and you don’t even know you are heading in the direction to the great portal... where I will trap you in my newly founded dimension... the Sub-con.
