???: Prepare… to perish…
The beast points his spear at Peach.
???: You must be in charge…
Peach: … Mario?
Mario: … *gulp* …
Mario steps in front of Peach, followed by Luigi.
Mario: Who… are you?
???: …
The demonic Koopatrol beast looks up at a crystal chandelier and throws his large spear at it, breaking it and making it fall. It almost hits Mario and Luigi.
Mario: This isn’t good…
Luigi: You think?
Mario: … Tell us who you are!
???: ... Val…
As soon as he speaks his name, he charges at Mario. Mario attempts to jump out of the way but Val simply grabs his leg and throws him at a wall.
Val: Pathetic.
Val glances behind him to see Luigi about to jump on him. Val stays still and Luigi hits the spike on his helmet.
Luigi: Urgh!
Val: Where is he?
Mario: Ergh… Who?
Val grabs Mario and holds him against the wall, pointing his spear at his neck.
Val: That purple whelp… Where is he?
Mario: Wh-wha? I don’t know!
Val throws Mario on the ground, then turns to Peach and the rest.
Val: You, mortals, tell me where he is.
Peach: We… don’t know.
All the guests are shivering with fear as Val slowly glares across all of them.
Val: I sense his presence…
Val walks to Peach and uses his spear to perfectly swipe her crown.
Val: … So you lied?
Peach: No!
Mario is stumbling up.
Mario: What are you talking about?!
Val glances at Mario, then goes to pick the crown up.
Val: Here it is… finally.
Val glances at everyone, then stares into one of the gems in the crown. He pokes it out (he sure is strong) and picks it up once it falls on the ground.
Val: You have his gems, what am I supposed to believe?
Peach: That’s my crown!
Val: Maybe it’s yours now, but it wasn’t always…
Peach: ...
Val: I’m done here…
Val exits the castle holding Peach’s crown and staring into the gem he poked out. Then Val is gone…
Mario: … What just happened…?
Luigi shrugs, watching where Val exited.
Peach: … Um…
Mario heads to the front door to see Val nowhere in sight.
Luigi: That was…
Random Toad: Horror!
Everyone begins to panic and talk fearfully about what just happened.
Mario: Everyone, please, we don’t need to-
Suddenly a bumping/knocking sound is heard.
Mario: What NOW?!
Peach: That sounds like it’s coming from my room…
Peach enters her room. After a few minutes a gasp is heard and Peach slowly walks out.
Peach: There’s someone in there.
Mario enters and listens for the knocking sound, following it to a small, hidden door. He opens it to find a small room, and in the room is…
Mario: Who are you?
???: … Scara.
Mario: And who are you?
Scara (still wearing black robe): I’ll explain later.
Scara shivers; Mario notices he is wet and looks quite cold.
Mario: What-
Scara: I’ll explain.
Scara exits Peach’s room and looks at everyone with clouded eyes.
Luigi: Who is that?
Mario: Scara… I think.
Peach: And who is he?! Better not be with that-that… monster!
Mario: We’ll find out soon.
Mario and everyone else look at Scara.
Scara: … I know Val invaded… You see, I am what’s left of my long-lost civilization… well, me and my brother, but…
A tear falls from one of Scara’s eyes.
Mario: And?
Scara: We used to be a thriving civilization, until THEY came.
Scara points to the front door, which is still open.
Scara: They’re called the Darkeners; Val is one of their generals. That crown he took from you… once… belonged to me. We were a peaceful civilization until the Darkeners came with their superior technology. They showed no mercy in wiping us out; they believed we had something they needed. I was the leader of my civilization and they went for me once they *tear* wiped out most of my people. They took my crown and thought it was one of the things they needed. They spared only me and my brother, Zash. For about ten years or so we lived off the land around us, traveling and barely surviving… Until one fateful day, YESTERDAY… we ran into Val. Even though we were spared before, we weren’t spared this time. Val and his four followers chased us, attempting to… kill or capture us. I barely made it away from them… but Zash couldn’t make it… I don’t know what they did to him. They kept telling me to come to them... And the crown…
Scara looked at Peach for a second.
Scara: That crown had an ancient gem… I figured that’s why they wanted the crown.
Peach: Woah, woah… How did I end up with the crown?
Scara: How did you get it?
Peach: I got it as a gift when I became princess.
Scara: The Darkeners must have dropped it or something, and a Toad probably found it and sold it. Something like that…
Scara suddenly turns to Mario.
Scara: They have to be stopped… before they cause any more terror.
Mario: But… how?
Scara: I don’t know…
Scara closes his eyes and faces the floor.
Scara: I just don’t know… The only way that MAY be possible is getting the other ancient gems. The gem inside the crown was one of the ancient gems; I believe there are five of these ancient gems. When combined they create great power. I can’t think of any other power that can stop the Darkeners.
Scara looks up again.
Scara: Will you help me…?
Everyone begins whispering.
Scara: I beg you… They wiped out my whole civilization and they’ll probably attempt to do the same to yours...
Peach nods.
Peach: Of course we’ll help… um… Do you know where any of the other gems are?
Scara shakes his head.
Scara: I am sorry, I do not. Hopefully there’s someone who knows.
Luigi: Do you know where Val could be heading next?
Scara: No…
Mario: We have to stop these Darkeners.
Everyone nods.
Scara: It seems they thirst for war and terror. Until they get those gems, they’ll destroy anything that get’s in their way. To be honest… I’m surprised Val spared you… Was Val the only one here?
Mario: Yes.
Scara: The Darkeners have probably been searching for the other ancient gems. We must beat them to the gems before it’s too late.
Mario: Yes, but I think I need rest after this…
Luigi: Me too.
Peach: Same…
Scara: Very well, you will need your strength.
Mario: Yes we will… We shall speak with you again tomorrow?
Scara nods.
Scara: Okay, you may rest now.
Scara looks back at the front door.
Scara: You may want to wait a little longer… make sure they’re gone completely.
Mario: So you have no idea where Val’s going next?
Scara: He’s probably returning the ancient gem.
Peach: Do the gems have names?
Scara nods.
Scara: Mer, Gran, Frozen, Lyn, and… I don’t know the last one’s.
Peach: Well, hopefully we’ll be safe for now.
Scara: Yes.
Mario: Well, we must rest now. Thank you, Scara.
Scara dips his head.
Scara: See you in the morning.
Scara watches as everyone leaves. When alone, Scara sighs heavily.
Scara: Can we stop them?
