This is the first episode of my long-awaited
Chronicles of the Koopa Empire. All the stories may or may not be connected
and may not be in any particular order. The first episode is about a group
of newly appointed recruits who have just joined the Koopa Empire and are
in their first few weeks on their new jobs.
Chapter 1 – Welcome To Castle Koopa
It was an ordinary spring day at Castle Koopa as the workers there went about their daily routine. Six new recruits who had just completed their training were starting their first day as full-time members of the Koopa Empire. The new recruits included two Koopa Troopas, one Shy Guy, two Goombas, and a Paratroopa. They were to be given a tour of Castle Koopa before meeting up with Bowser in the throne room.
The six met up near the entrance of the castle and waited for their tourguide to appear. While they were waiting, they decided to get to know each other a bit more.
"So what's everybody's name here?" the first Koopa Troopa said, starting the conversation.
"I'm Tony, pleased to meet you," the second Koopa Troopa replied.
"My name's Arnie," the Paratroopa said.
"The name's Barry. Hi there," the Shy Guy said.
"I'm Trevor, and this is Reece," the first Goomba said. He and Reece already knew each other as they both had gone to the same training academy.
"My name is Clive. Nice to meet you all," the first Koopa Troopa said.
Clive was about to speak some more when their tourguide entered through the big red double-doors at the front of the castle, near to where the six were standing. The tourguide was a Koopatrol who had worked at the castle for more than fifteen years.
"Hello, you must be the new recruits," the Koopatrol said. The recruits all nodded their heads, confirming they were new in the castle. "My name is Jasper, I will be your tourguide today. It is my job to show you around the castle and to inform you of the rules and regulations whilst you work here. Before we start, do you have any questions?" the Koopatrol asked.
All six recruits remained silent. "Okay then, let’s press on, shall we?" Jasper said.
"First and foremost, I'd like to say on behalf of everyone in this castle including King Bowser himself, welcome to Castle Koopa. The most important thing to remember and respect in this castle is loyalty - loyalty to yourselves, loyalty to each other. and loyalty to King Bowser. You are expected to work to your full potential, failure to do so will result in harsh punishments. Am I making myself clear?"
"Yes, sir," the recruits all said in unison.
"Good. Then lets begin the tour," Jasper
said. The recruits followed their tourguide as he prepared to show them
round the castle and to their new way of life.
Chapter 2 – The Tour Begins
Jasper and the six new recruits were standing in the main lobby near the main entrance, and Jasper led the team down a corridor to the left. Once they came to the first set of doors, they stopped.
"Okay guys, this is the training facility. Here, you will see three doors, which are large rooms used for training our troops. The first room on your left is for training troops for unarmed combat against our enemies, which is a bit similar to the kind of training you would have done in your training academies," Jasper said. "Although you are now officially part of the Koopa Empire, you may still be required to attend training sessions especially if you are about to enter combat. You will learn how to beat and capture an enemy with as little damage as possible."
The recruits understood what Jasper was telling them and listened with interest.
"The room on your right is for training Magikoopas and anyone else who wishes to know how to handle and use a wand properly," Jasper said. "Here, potential wand users are taught basic magic and how to get accurate results. Using a wand takes great skill and should be done carefully. Wands are not toys to play around with." Jasper paused for a moment before speaking again.
"The second room on your left is a target practice room for troops who use weapons such as hammers and boomerangs, " Jasper said. "Any questions before we continue?"
"You said the first room was for unarmed combat. What if the enemy is armed and we are not?" Tony asked.
"Troops in the Koopa Empire are trained to be prepared for all situations. If we expect the enemy to be armed then we shall be armed as well," Jasper replied. "There is just that certain problem who shall remain nameless who needs to be dealt with regardless of whether he is armed or not."
The atmosphere suddenly changed as the six just froze at Jasper's last words. He was, of course, referring to Mario, and all six of the recruits had their own reasons for hating him.
"Anyway, any more questions?" Jasper then asked after a quick pause.
"Yeah. Me and Trevor were trained in an all-Goombas academy. Would we be able to do some more training along with our main working schedule so we can be used to battling alongside other species?" Reece said.
"That shouldn't be a problem. Most of the time, people here are assigned to units that are specialized for their own species in battle situations. If you are not battling and are sent on a mission somewhere then it wouldn't matter who you are assigned to work with," Jasper exclaimed.
"Okay, thank you sir," Reece said.
"Anything else?" Jasper said. No one else had any questions so Jasper continued on with the tour. "Right then, let’s press on," Jasper said.
They walked further down the corridor, which was quite narrow. They came to the end of the corridor, where there were some stairs leading down to a cellar in front of them. They didn't go down but Jasper pointed down the stairs while speaking. "Down there is the storage room. This is where we keep all our wands, hammers, boomerangs, and other kinds of things," Jasper said.
They then turned back around and walked
back to the main lobby where they had started. They proceeded to walk forward
into the main portion of the castle.
Chapter 3 – The End of the Tour
Jasper and the six recruits walked through a set of double doors that looked identical to the main entrance only smaller.
"Okay, straight ahead of you, where the two Sledge Brothers are standing, is the throne room. We will go in there soon and you will be greeted by King Bowser and our tour will end," Jasper said. "But first, it’s time to continue with the tour. On the left, you will see two staircases. The first staircase will take you to the second floor, where we will be going."
So Jasper led the recruits up the first staircase, which led to a corridor going in both directions. "You will be given maps for the castle when you meet with King Bowser, but you'll need to remember where everything is once you become used to living and working here," Jasper said.
He then pointed to a door just down the right of the corridor. "This is the castle's library, there you will find books on the history of our great empire as well as other subjects. Further down the corridor is the kitchen and canteen. That is where you will have dinner. You will be given ID cards that will also act like credit cards so you can use them to buy food and whatever else you want," Jasper said.
"Do we have a limit to what we can spend each day? If so, how much?" Barry asked.
"You will start off with 50 gold coins, which has already been added to your cards. Your cards can be topped up with a minimum of 50 gold coins each week. Your weekly allowance is another thing entirely, however, which will obviously be much higher. You can spend normal cash on meals if you wish to do so, " Jasper replied.
They then walked over to another staircase leading them to the third floor. "The third, fourth, and fifth floors are the residential rooms. This is where you will sleep. You will be allocated rooms when you receive your keys. You may or may not have to share room a with other troops. The rooms are split into different wings on the various floors, so you'll have to remember where each of your rooms is," Jasper said. "These floors also have many toilets and bathrooms."
They then went back down to the first floor. Jasper pointed to the second staircase. "That staircase leads you to the dungeons. Up there we have a total of twenty holding cells for prisoners and an additional five smaller cells for special prisoners. We don't need to go up there now…
“This is where the tour ends. I have shown you the most important rooms, the rest you'll have to find out yourself when you get your maps. It’s time for you to meet our leader," Jasper said as they proceeded to walk towards the throne room.
The Sledge Brothers guarding the room stood aside to allow them to pass. Jasper knocked on the door. "Come in," said a deep voice from inside the throne room.
Jasper and the recruits stood in front of Bowser. "Thank you for your time. My job is finished now. Now your time as full-fledged members of the Koopa Empire truly begins. Bye for now," Jasper said to the recruits before being dismissed by Bowser.
"So this is it," Bowser said. "Two Koopa Troopas, a Paratroopa, two Goombas, and a Shy Guy. Quite a mixed bunch."
The six stood there, silent but quite nervous. They were standing in front of the great King Bowser, who they had not met before.
"I hope you lot aren't slackers, because I hate slackers. Anyone caught slacking will be in big trouble. Do you want to know what I mean by big trouble?" Bowser asked.
The recruits just shook their heads, getting quite scared. "We won't let you down, King Bowser," Trevor said nervously.
"Good. Then I suppose you'll become great troops here," Bowser said.
"I want to make sure you will be as reliable as you say you'll be. So I'm going to give you all a mission," Bowser said.
"What kind of mission?" Arnie asked.
"I want to see how you all work as a team. The missions I give here are usually done in teams. You are of a mixed bunch of species and to be really successful here, you need to be able to work with different species other than your own. So your first mission is to bring me two Toads," Bowser said. "Kidnapping is a huge part of this castle. We don't have those dungeons here for nothing."
"Any Toads in particular?" Clive asked.
"I don't care which ones. Just kidnap any old Toads," Bowser said in a slightly annoyed tone. "Bring two Toads to me alive and unharmed. Make it quick, and if those Mario Brothers try and stop you, take care of them."
"Consider it done," Clive replied. "That shouldn't be a problem. No Mario Brother is going to stop us."
"Right, we'll give you some Toads easily and we'll make sure whoever we get won't escape," Reece said.
Bowser laughed at the recruits' attitudes.
He was confident that these were going to succeed at their mission. He
then dismissed them to start their first mission.
Chapter 4 – The Capture
The recruits prepared themselves for the mission before setting off to Toad Town. Clive was elected as team leader, so it was he who explained how they would complete their mission successfully and what they would need in order to do so. Once everyone knew what to do and they had everything they needed, they left for Toad Town.
"Just remember, Bowser said he wanted two Toads and not a scratch should be placed upon them," Clive said. "The only ones who may need to be harmed are those pesky Mario Brothers, but they shouldn't be a problem. There are six of us and only two of them, so we should be able to beat them easily."
They walked westwards from the warp pipe they exited the castle from. They kept on walking for about half an hour until they were outside the Koopa Kingdom and inside the Mushroom Kingdom.
"Right, not far to go now. Does everyone understand what you all need to do?" Clive asked.
"We do," Tony said.
"We understand perfectly clear, Clive," Arnie said.
"Good, then let’s do this. We have everything, we need now all we need are some Toads," Clive said.
They walked for a few minutes more until the recruits were on the outskirts of Toad Town. They hid behind a bush so they wouldn't be seen.
"Right, we're here. Let's get this over with. We'll need to look for our targets carefully before we strike," Clive whispered to the other recruits. They all nodded in agreement.
They watched from behind a bush for any unsuspecting Toads to walk past. They saw one Toad walking past and the recruits prepared to strike. "Here's our first target, and no witnesses either," Clive sneered. "This is just perfect, he doesn't suspect a thing. Tony, do you have the rope?"
"Of course, and Barry has the cloths to keep them quiet," Tony replied.
"Good, let’s do this how we planned," Clive said.
He, Trevor, and Reece then suddenly pounced, with Trevor and Reece standing on either side of the unfortunate Toad and Clive in between. "Going somewhere?" Trevor said menacingly.
The Toad was about to scream but was quickly silenced by Clive's hand being placed over his mouth. "You're coming with us. Don't make a sound and you won't get hurt," Clive said before dragging him behind the bush, where the other three recruits were waiting. Tony quickly tied up the Toad while Barry shoved a cloth in his mouth.
"That was easy," laughed Trevor. "We got our first capture on our first day, and not a single witness saw us."
"Yeah, now all we need is one more, then we can bring them back to Castle Koopa," Reece said.
The Toad just sat there terrified. Upon hearing the words Castle Koopa, he realized that these kidnappers were working for Bowser.
"If we can get another one just like we captured this one without any witnesses or pesky Mario Brothers, it would be an excellent achievement," exclaimed Clive.
He then noticed another Toad walk out, but this wasn't any Toad, this was in fact Toad the Toad. "Oh look, it’s that same Toad who is always hanging ‘round that Princess Toadstool and those Mario Brothers. He'll do perfectly," Clive said.
They prepared to strike in the same way as with the first Toad. Once Toad had walked halfway past the bush where the recruits were hiding, Clive jumped out with the two Goombas standing on either side of Toad. Clive was about to grab Toad but noticed the Mario Brothers had appeared. The distraction allowed Toad to run away. The three recruits still hiding were about to jump out to help but realized that doing so could allow their captive a chance to try and escape. Barry and Tony decided to help their team while Arnie stayed behind with the Toad they captured.
"What were you doing with Toad?" Mario demanded.
"Kidnapping him, of course," Clive replied coolly. "And you are getting in our way."
"Oh yeah?" Mario said, taking a fighting stance while Clive prepared to attack.
"Oy Mario," Tony said from behind him. "Are you sure you want to fight all of us?"
The Mario Brothers looked around and realized they were surrounded. They looked at each other and nodded. They would fight these recruits. "Anyone who works for Bowser should be eliminated," Mario said.
"What, just like when you slaughtered my whole family?!" Trevor said, raising his voice. "It is YOU who should be eliminated, you murdering scumbag." Trevor was now getting really angry. Mario was the last person he ever wanted to see, and just seeing the person who had murdered his entire family when he was just a baby angered him.
"I'll squash you and jump on all of your heads, just like the rest of your kind," Mario said. "Let's go, Luigi."
"Right, Mario," Luigi said.
"Prepare to be punished, Koopa killer!" Clive said.
"You tell him, Clive," Tony said. He turned towards Mario and said in a low, menacing voice, "Let’s finish this right here, right now."
Without warning, Mario and Luigi were about to jump on Trevor and Reece but were quickly tackled by Clive and Tony. Clive pinned Mario to the floor and started throwing repeated punches to his face. Tony was strangling Luigi while Trevor, Reece, and Barry were biting their fingers and toes. After about ten minutes the fight stopped and Mario and Luigi were battered, bruised, and exhausted. They had been completely overwhelmed by their new enemies, who were obviously ready for them before they even arrived.
"Get lost, plumbers, we are not pushovers; and one day you will pay for all the Koopas, Goombas, and others you have brutally murdered," Clive said angrily.
Mario and Luigi, who were lying on the floor, looked up and saw five angry faces growling at them. They were too exhausted to fight anymore but knew their enemies still had some fight in them. The Mario Brothers decided to retreat for now. But as they ran away, Mario shouted back at them, "You won't get away with this, you and the rest of Bowser's empire will be eliminated, you hear me!" he shouted.
"Yeah, in your dreams maybe," Clive said when Mario was gone. "Okay then, we messed up our chance of getting Toad. But we can still get another Toad for Bowser."
"Indeed, there are plenty of Toads for us to capture. So let’s continue with this. I hope Arnie is okay with our first captive," Tony said.
"He should be fine. That Toad won't be going anywhere while he's all tied up with a Paratroopa standing guard," Clive said. "Let’s finish this mission and get back to Castle Koopa."
They then went back behind the bush they’d been using to hide. "You guys okay?" Arnie asked, having seen the whole fight.
"We're fine, Arnie, thanks for asking. Mario will get his comeuppance one day, you'll see," Clive replied. Arnie smiled and nodded. "Okay, back to business," Clive said.
After a few minutes their next target walked out, a young male Toad about the same age as their first captive. "Let’s do this, Mario and Luigi shouldn't bother us this time."
Clive jumped out beside the Toad while Trevor stood behind him and Reece in front of him. "What's going on?" the Toad asked. "I want to get past."
"I'm afraid we can't let you do that," sneered Clive. "You'll have to come with us to Castle Koopa."
"Castle Koopa?" the Toad cried in shock. "I'm not letting you kidnap me," he then said defiantly.
"You have no choice," Reece said. The Toad was about to shout but Clive grabbed him and hand-gagged him before carrying him behind the bush, where he was tied up and gagged like the first Toad.
"Finally, we did it. We've accomplished our mission," Clive said ecstatically.
"We would have done it sooner if it wasn't for those meddling Mario Brothers," Trevor said.
"Yeah, well no worries. We showed them not to mess with us, and I think we make a great team. It’s been such a pleasure working with you guys," Clive said. "Let’s bring these Toads to Castle Koopa quickly before anyone spots us."
So the recruits walked back to Castle
Koopa with their Toad captives by their sides.
Chapter 5 – Mission Accomplished!
The recruits arrived back at Castle Koopa about half an hour later, having completed their mission. "Finally, we're back. Let’s hurry back to the throne room and tell King Bowser the good news," Clive said.
The six recruits walked towards the throne room with their Toad captives. They stopped when they got to the doors to the throne room, which was being guarded by the same two Sledge Brothers they had seen earlier when Jasper had brought them in. "May we have permission to enter to see King Bowser?” Clive requested.
"King Bowser is not in the throne room right now. Shall we pass on a message?" the first Sledge Brother asked.
"Tell him that we have completed our mission and have two Toads here waiting to be escorted to the dungeons," Clive replied.
"Wait here. I'll go and inform King Bowser you have returned," the first Sledge Brother said as he entered the throne room, leaving the second Sledge Brother to stand guard alone.
Bowser was in the royal headquarters behind the throne room, having dinner with his kids in his private dining room. The royal headquarters was where Bowser and his kids lived and slept, the area serving as a normal house inside the castle. They were just finishing their dinner when the Sledge Brother knocked on the door to the dining room.
"Just a second," Bowser's voice said from inside the dining room. Few of Bowser's troops had permission to enter the royal headquarters, so Bowser guessed who would be knocking. After about ten seconds Bowser left the dining room and saw the Sledge Brother waiting outside.
"King Bowser, those new recruits have returned and they have some prisoners with them," the Sledge Brother said.
"Thank you for informing me. I'll see them right away, now back to your post," Bowser told the Sledge Brother. The Sledge Brother returned to where he was standing guard outside the throne room. "King Bowser will see you now," the Sledge Brother told the recruits.
"Thank you, sir," Clive said as the team and their Toad captives walked into the throne room. By now the two Toads were absolutely terrified, but they didn't try to scream. Even if they tried, they'd only be able to make a muffled sound and would probably be hit by their captors.
The recruits stood in front of the throne and waited for Bowser to return. A minute later, Bowser came in from the back room and sat down on his throne.
"Well I see you have brought me some Toads. Well done, you are now officially part of the Koopa Empire. You have completed your first mission," Bowser said.
"Thank you, King Bowser. We did have a bit of trouble first. We almost got that same Toad who's always hanging with that Peach, but the Mario Brothers got in our way. Toad escaped but we ended up beating up the Mario Brothers and got a replacement Toad instead," Clive said.
Bowser laughed really loud at Clive's comment. "You beat up the Mario Brothers on your very first mission? That's so funny and I love it!" Bowser said.
Two Hammer Brothers walked into the throne room shortly afterwards. "You called for us?" the first Hammer Brother said. The two Hammer Brothers had been called via walkie-talkie to come into the throne room just before Bowser had entered.
"Yes, take these two Toads to the dungeons and keep them guarded," Bowser said.
"Right away, King Bowser," the second Hammer Brother said.
The Hammer Brothers took the end of the rope binding each Toad off Clive and Tony, and walked them to the dungeons. "All right, you two, you'll be staying here for a while. Don't try to scream or escape and we'll go easy on you," the first Hammer Brother told the Toads. Once they were ib the dungeons, the two Toads were untied and their gags taken out before they were pushed into the dungeons. The Hammer Brothers locked them inside and stood guard outside.
Meanwhile, back in the throne room, Bowser gave the recruits their ID cards and the keys to their rooms as well as a walkie-talkie each. "Your room number is engraved on your keys. If you get lost finding your way there, ask any of the senior troops and they'll show you to your rooms," Bowser said. "You will begin work properly first thing tomorrow morning. I expect all of you to be up no later than 7:30 AM. You'll be given many different missions each day so you should be prepared for whatever comes. Use those walkie-talkies to keep in touch if you need help with anything. You'll be given your missions that way also."
Bowser then dismissed them all as the recruits left the throne room. They wouldn't officially begin work until tomorrow so they decided to go to the canteen for some dinner before exploring the castle. "Man, I'm starving. Let’s say we get some dinner," Tony said.
"Good idea," Trevor said. "Let’s see what kind of meals they serve in this castle."
They then went up to the canteen and saw that it wasn't one canteen but several canteens in different rooms. The recruits were a bit puzzled for a moment but then Clive realiszd something. "I get it now, there are different canteens for the different species, just like the residential rooms. We are mostly all different species so we'll all have our own eating habits," Clive exclaimed. "Each of the canteens will have different kinds of meals, and some of us may eat more times a day or less depending on our species."
"Seems logical to me, it also gives us a chance to communicate with our own kinds," Trevor said.
So Clive, Tony and Arnie went into the
Koopas' canteen, which had many different kinds of Koopas, not just Koopa
Troopas. Trevor and Reece went into the Goombas' canteen and Barry into
the Shy Guy's canteen.
Chapter 6 – Dinner at Castle Koopa
The Koopas' canteen was the largest in the castle. As well as a place for eating, this was also where Koopas could talk during their breaks. Chef Torte was the head chef of the Koopas' canteen and had worked in the kitchen for over twenty years making his own recipes.
As new recruits, Clive, Tony and Arnie got their first meals here for free, as did the other three recruits in their respective canteens. They had a selection of three different dinners and two desserts, which was the norm for the Koopa canteen at this time of day. They sat down together at a table at the far end of the canteen.
"So, I wonder what Bowser has in store for us tomorrow," Clive said while tucking into some of his dinner.
"Who knows? I'd love some more action-based missions like when we beat up those Mario Brothers," Tony said. "It’s too bad you didn't join in, Arnie."
"I'd have loved to help you guys if it wasn't for me guarding that Toad. I've always wanted a piece of Mario. Maybe next time," Arnie said.
"I want to battle on the front line against an enemy. I want to show that Mushroom Kingdom a thing or two. I also want to be in charge of my own unit one of these days," Clive said.
"Your time will come soon, Clive. If that's what you really want to do then a promotion will come very soon. You have excellent leadership skills, you proved that when we kidnapped those Toads," Tony said.
"Thanks, Tony," Clive said.
They ate the rest of their meal in silence until two Hammer Brothers came up and sat down beside them. "Hello, you must be the new recruits here. My name's Buzz and this is my brother Scott," the first Hammer Brother said.
"Pleased to meet you guys," Scott said.
"Hi guys," Arnie said.
"We're quite new here too, we've only been here a couple of months," Buzz said. "You'll get used to it."
"So how was it?" Scott said. "We heard you beat up the Mario Brothers, how did it feel?"
"It felt great," Clive said triumphantly. "Without their super powers, they're nothing but wimpy humans."
The Hammer Brothers laughed at Clive's comment, agreeing with them. "You got that right. That Mario thinks he's so much better than everyone else when in fact he's just a loser. If it wasn't for his super powers, we would have had the Mushroom Kingdom well and truly in our grasp years ago," Buzz said.
"Our time will come," Clive said, pausing in the middle of drinking some orange juice.
"Yeah. Super or not, the Mario Brothers will soon be history, right Arnie?" Tony said.
"Right," Arnie said. "I've heard about Kamek and his prophecy, but I believe we can stop Kamek's prophecy from coming true."
They all nodded. They knew what Arnie was talking about and feared the prophecy, but would do everything they could to defeat the Mario Brothers and prevent the Koopa Empire's downfall.
"It’s just a pity Kamek didn't kill them when he had the chance," Clive said coldly. "As for the prophecy, it will never come true. The Mario Brothers will soon be history and the war with the Mushroom Kingdom will soon be over."
They all finished their meals and left their plates on the collection rack where the rest of the used plates were.
"Well, we have to get back to work. You should explore the castle a bit more," Buzz said as he and Scott proceeded to walk in the opposite direction once they were outside the canteen.
"See you guys, we'll talk again another day," Clive said. Once Buzz and Scott were out of sight, Clive turned to Tony and Arnie and said, "I think I'd like to go on alone for now. You two should go and find out more about the castle and what we should expect for tomorrow." Tony and Arnie nodded and they all went their separate ways throughout the castle.
Trevor, Reece and Barry had already
eaten and were already in different areas of the castle. The three Koopas
reunited later that night in the residential center, where they each had
separate rooms. Tomorrow all six would begin their first proper day as
full-time members of the Koopa Troop.
Chapter 7 – The Battle for Lixerixua Temple
The date was 7th September 1754 on the Mushroom/Koopa Kingdom calendar, and this was going to be the first full day for the new recruits who had joined the previous day. Two of them in particular, Clive Koopa and Tony Koopa, had been summoned to Bowser's throne room at 7:15 AM that morning along with a total of a thousand Koopa Troopas, Hammer Brothers, and other koopa species. Bowser was standing in front of his throne and addressed his loyal troops with pride and charisma.
"We have just been informed that one of our sacred temples has been attacked by Mushroom Kingdom forces that are leading a siege there. We must go to Lixerixua Temple outside of Monstro Town and fight the Mushroom Kingdom. We must not let them take our landmarks or our kingdom," Bowser told the crowd, which stood silently in formation in front of the throne room.
Lixerixia Temple was a sacred temple located 23 miles southwest of Monstro Town in the Hari province, which also contained the Koopahari Desert. The temple held some very special artifacts that had been treasured by the Koopa Kingdom for generations.
Bowser paused for a moment before continuing. Clive and Tony listened with interest and were both quite excited at going out onto the battlefield as well as honored to be picked for this battle. "Once again, those meddling Toads have interfered with our kingdom's resources, our history and heritage. We will show those Mushroom people that we are not afraid and that we won't be defeated. You lot have been hand-picked by me personally so at any cost do not let me or your kingdom down," Bowser continued.
When Bowser had finished talking, all the troops saluted him in sync before leaving the castle on airships and tanks as they headed west towards Lixerixua Temple. Bowser boarded his doomship along with his kids and some of his more senior troops. Clive and Tony boarded one of the smaller airships. Clive looked around and saw someone he recognized. It was a Sledge Brother who had mentored him when he was at training academy. "Hello Spike," Clive said.
Spike turned around upon hearing Clive. "Clive, hello there. I heard you signed up yesterday. I'm sorry I didn't see you, I was out of the castle on patrol at the outskirts of Dark Land," Spike said. "So how are you feeling about going into your first proper battle?"
"Quite excited. We should win the battle easily. That temple is part of our kingdom and our heritage. We'll make sure the Toads know that and send them running," Clive said confidently.
Meanwhile on the main doomship, Bowser was equally excited about going into battle once again and wanted to personally defeat and capture as many Toads alive as possible.
"Lixerixua Temple is ten minutes away," said Ludwig, who was steering the ship along with his younger brother Larry.
"Good, make a slow descent. We'll attack the Toads from the air before descending on them. I've ordered my other troops to attack from the land. Their tanks and ships should be parked a few minutes away from the temple and they can use their vehicles as hiding places for an ambush," Bowser said.
"With pleasure, King Dad," Ludwig said as he steered the doomship just slightly downwards while staying at a steady pace towards the temple.
"This is Colonel Mitch of Alpha 5 Airship," the Hammer Brother who was commanding one of the airships said to Bowser through a walkie-talkie. "We have now descended onto the ground and have Lixerixua Temple in our sights."
"Good work, keep your squad there until the other ships and tanks arrive. When the time comes, I will give you and the other commanders the order to attack," Bowser said from his doomship over his walkie-talkie.
"Yes, sir. Over and out," Mitch said.
Clive and Tony were on the Alpha 4 Airship. In total there were 7 airships and 12 tanks as well as the doomship. All the tanks and airships were now on the ground and the troops were in position surrounding the temple. Bowser, whose doomship was now directly over the Toad camp near the temple, began to take action. The Toads were prepared to attack even though they knew they couldn't win.
"Okay Ludwig, it’s time to attack. Fire the cannons and Bullet Bills at will," Bowser said.
"Yes, King Dad," Ludwig said. Ludwig pressed a few buttons and cannons began to fire over the Toads. This action sent them running in all directions in terror.
Bowser began to speak to the Toads through a loudspeaker. "We have you surrounded. Surrender yourselves now or we will destroy you all," he said. The Toads were not going to do that, however, and prepared to fire at the doomship with their own weapons. "You fools," Bowser told them. He then spoke to his commanders through his walkie-talkie. "It’s time to attack. Charge at them with everything you have. Close yourselves around them and force them to surrender. Don't let anyone escape. Don't kill unless you have no other choice."
The commanders got the message and ordered the troops to charge at the Toads. The Toads were heavily outnumbered, and although some tried to escape, they quickly found themselves surrounded by the Koopas. There were over twenty Koopas for every one Toad, and all of them were eager to capture a Toad of their very own. Knowing that they would be destroyed if they tried to fight back, the Toads all dropped their weapons and waited to be captured. Their attempt to take Lixerixua Temple for the Mushroom Kingdom had failed.
"Great work, Troops, you now have them right where we want them, trapped with nowhere to run. They shouldn't be a problem now, go in and take them all prisoner," Bowser shouted from his doomship, having descended to the ground.
Many of the troops grabbed a Toad of their choice and ushered them over to their respective airship or tank. Both Clive and Tony got themselves a Toad each. They tied up the Toads in the same way they had the day before. Each of the captured Toads was boarded onto either an airship or a tank and were then escorted back to Castle Koopa's dungeons.
Later back at Castle Koopa, Clive was with Spike reminiscing on the day's events. "That was a good battle today, we sure showed those Toads," Clive said.
"Yeah, but this isn't the last we've seen from them. You can bet your life they will try to take the temple or another of our landmarks again," Spike said.
"And you can bet that we will always win," Clive laughed.
"That's true; no matter what the Toads do, we will always have greater numbers and better strategy," Spike replied.
"And unlike the Mario Brothers, we don't slaughter our enemies like they do us," Clive said.
A bit later, Trevor and Reece joined them. "Hi Clive, we hear you've been out on the battlefield," Trevor said. "Me and Reece were out retrieving some treasure for Bowser along with a few Koopas."
"That's nice. I love being on the battlefield. I'm going to be in charge of my own unit one of these days, and the Mario Brothers and the Mushroom Kingdom won’t stand a chance against us." Clive laughed.
"Have you seen Arnie or Barry today?" Clive asked.
"They left on a mission earlier, I don't know where they went but they should be back tonight sometime," Trevor replied.
"I see. Me and Tony are going to get a bonus today for our own personal captures," Clive replied.
"Lucky you, it’s all right for you Koopas. You've got arms and hands and can do so much more than us Goombas, not that I'm complaining or anything," Trevor said. "Well, me and Reece have some work to do elsewhere. It’s nice to see you again, Clive, we'll talk again some other time."
"Bye Trevor, bye Reece," Clive said.
Clive was assigned several battlefield
missions under Spike’s command after that, and was mostly separated from
the rest of the recruits who had joined him on the first day. After a period
of six months, Clive got the promotion he had wanted for so long and was
promoted to sergeant of his own unit. Tony was on that unit as a lower-ranked
troop. Trevor and Reece were assigned to a Goomba squad that focused mostly
on espionage. Arnie was sent to a Paratroopa squad that focused mainly
on capture and battle missions similar to what Clive was doing. Barry was
assigned to a mixed unit of Shy Guys, Goombas, and Koopas that undertook
missions of different kinds.
