Yoshi's Island

? Bucket: Hit it with and egg for some coins or a ship. Found by Ludwig 222.

1-Up Balloon: Yoshi earns an extra life if he eats this before it explodes.

10-Point Star: When Yoshi uses this, Baby Mario is protected from the Toadies for an extra 10 seconds.

20-Point Star: When Yoshi uses this, Baby Mario is protected from the Toadies for an extra 20 seconds.

Anytime Egg: Yoshi has six eggs to use after he uses this item.

Arrow Ball: A ball with an arrow. Blue ones can disappear, but green ones don't. Found by Ludwig 222.

Arrow Cloud: If Yoshi can manage to hit this, his egg will be sent in the direction it is pointing, like perhaps into the player's face. Apparently, Boshee got some egg on his so he remembered it.

Arrow Lift: Found in some castles and fortresses. It spins around andwill give you a ride in the direction it's pointing at when you jump on it.Blue ones will disappear after a bit. You can also pick them up with your
tongue. Fun! Found by Hip.

Balloon: There are three types of these in the game. One type floats in the air and holds crates and even bombs and Needlenoses. Another type floats in the air and is found in four colors: green, red, yellow, and purple. The other type is only found in World 4-3 and is attached to a springboard and Yoshi can jump on the springboard about five times to make the balloon giant. It also helps Yoshi get the rest of the red coins in the level and take Yoshi to the secret goal. Cheater! Found by Ludwig 222,

Beanstalk: In some winged clouds, a seed drops out forming a beanstalk. Yoshi could climb up the leaves to the top and into a new area. Found by Ludwig 222.

Big Eggs: These accursed things suddenly appeared and allowed Yoshi to defeat little ‘ol me. They hurt my nose! I was reminded about this by Foshi.

Boulder: Yoshi can push these. Sometimes he needs to.

Bridge: Sometimes hitting a Winged Cloud will yield a bridge, allowing Yoshi to cross gaps. Fun! Found by Hip.

Checkered Platform Switch: A blue or pink block. When hit, it will turn into a checkered platform. Blue ones move back and forth and pink ones move up and down. Found by Ludwig 222.

Chest: In some castles with lava rivers, Yoshi can ride one across it. I have no idea why it can support ALL his weight. It goes SO slow that a Boo can be faster than one! Found by Ludwig 222.

Chomp Rock: A rock with a Chomp's face on it. It is brown in the overworld and gray in the underworld. In some levels, Yoshi can roll through the WHOLE level and possibly get a whopping 999 lives! Found by Ludwig 222.

Coin: Scattered all over, finding 100 of these yields an extra life.

Colored Blocks: Blocks found in some castles that are destroyed by eggs. Green ones take on hit, yellow takes two, and red takes three. Found by Ludwig 222.

Colored Eggs: These come in red, yellow, and flashing. Used like normal eggs, they turn into items when they hit their target. Submitted by Jazzman.

Colored Egg Box: Unlike normal egg boxes, these transform into a colored egg when hit. Submitted by Jazzman.

Countdown Platform: A platform with a number on it. Step on it and the number on it will go to the number below it. When the number would become 0, the platform disappears. Found by Ludwig 222.

Crate: When pounded, these reveal items. Yoshi can also push them around. Submitted by Jazzman.

Directional Ball: Found in a secret part of 4-6. It first goes up and down. Hitting it with an egg makes it go left and right. It's used to get the Red Coins above the spikes. Found by Ludwig 222.

Donut Lift: Like in Mario 3, standing on this too long makes it fall. Found by Ludwig 222.

Egg: Yoshi can hold up to six of these at a time, minus any keys. They are used to fire at enemies and other various things. They can also bounce off walls and skim across water. When green Eggs break, they contain nothing, yellow ones contain a coin, reds contain two Stars, and the elusive flashing ones contain a Red Coin. Giant eggs, found by eating Fat Guys and in the final boss battle, slope towards the ground when thrown and have the effect of a POW. Found by Hip.

Egg Box: Each time Yoshi hits this, a throwable egg pops out.

Eggplant: These flowers spit out eggs for Yoshi to catch. However, they occasionally spit less pleasant things. Submitted by Jazzman.

Flippers: After going through these, you can't go back through them again. Found by Ludwig 222.

Flower: There are five of these on each course. They each add 10 points to the score total and give Yoshi a chance to play a bonus game. Finding all five yields an extra life.

Ghost Platform: Found in Salvo the Slime's Castle and Sluggy the Unshaven's Fortress. A ghost will control where the platform will go so watch where it takes you. Fun! Found by Hip.

Ice Block: A block of ice (duh). Fire breath will melt it. Found by Ludwig 222.

Key: The boss of the first five worlds drop these. Yoshi needs them to access the next world.

Key(2): I never actually saw one of these, but rumor has it if you find one you can open a locked door that allows for a bonus game against Bandit for a lame prize. Boshee either found this or stole it off the web.

Lakitu's Cloud: If Yoshi jumps on a Lakitu, his cloud will remain in the air. Yoshi can then jump in and ride around for a limited time. Found by Todd.

Log: Usually found on the ground. You have to pound 'em for Red Coins. Found by Ludwig 222.

Magnifying Lens: Using this reveals all the red coins in the course. They will appear red, not yellow.

Manual Rotating Platform: Like a normal Rotating Platfrom, but won't move on its own. You'll have to jump from platform to platform to platform so that it can keep moving horizontally. Fun! Found by Hip.

Message Block: Yoshi is so pathetic that he needs these to give him some help. Boshee is also pathetic, since he must use these often.

Middle Ring: Usually found at the midpoint of a level. Going through this gives you ten Stars, and if you die later on you'll start where the Middle Ring was. Found by Ludwig 222.

Morph Bubble: When Yoshi touches these, they transform him into various bizarre vehicles. Submitted by Jazzman.

Pipe: Sometimes, Shy Guys will pop out of these until there's enough for you to have six eggs. Pipes that you can enter are warp pipes. Fun! Found by Hip.

Post: You can pound these down repeatedly until they're entirely in the ground. Sometimes you should think ahead and only pound them down to a certain level. You may even uncover Red Coins while pounding these. Fun! Found by Hip.

Pot: It might contain a Key. Found by Ludwig 222.

POW: When this is hit or used, all the enemies on the screen turn into Stars. Also a winnable item, then called Anytime POW.

Pully: In the Potted Ghost's Castle, to get past these, you have to keep hitting the ? Ball on these so you can get past the spiky object. Found by Ludwig 222.

Purple Egg Block: When these are hit they grow large, helping Yoshi get to higher places. Found by Ludwig 222.

Rail Lift: They move on preset paths in mid-air and come in three different colors. Green, yellow, and red move at slow, medium, and fast speeds respectively. Found by Hip.

Red ! Block: When transparent, they do nothing. When solid, they can be used as stepping stones and breaking your fall. Found by Hip.

Red ! Switch: Press one of these to  make all Red ! Blocks solid for a limited time. Found by Hip.

Red Coin: There are 20 of these in each course dispersed among the regular coins. Each red coin counts as a point towards the course score, and also towards the 100 coin extra life.

Rolling Platform: A platform that rolls and is found in Salvo the Slime's Castle. Found by Ludwig 222.

Rotating Platform: Four platforms spinning around. Sometimes Shy Guys are on them. Found by Ludwig 222.

See-Saw: Just like it sounds. Standing on the side makes it tilt. Found by Ludwig 222.

Ski Equipment: There's only two sets to be found in the game. They are in levels 5-3 and 5-Extra. If Yoshi enters a hut containing Ski Equipment, they will leave wearing toques and Yoshi will be wearing skis and ski poles, ready to tackle the upcoming downhill part of the level. Found by Hip.

Ski Lift: Found in 5-2 and 5-3. Dr. Freezegood is usually found on them. Found by Ludwig 222.

Snowball: Only one in the game, and it's in level 5-2. It works like a Chomp Rock, but gets bigger as Yoshi rolls it. Found by Hip.

Spiky Platform: A platform with spikes on it. Hitting a switch of its color makes the spikes go on the other side. Found in 1-8 and 5-6. Found by Ludwig 222.

Spinning Log: A log that spins in air, and the obstacles of World 6-3. In the beginning of the second area, if Yoshi jumps JUST at the time it starts spinning, he will be flung into a secret coin area, not to mention a maze of doors. Take that Yoshi! Found by Ludwig 222.

Spinning Platform: A huge 3D platform that spins. Usually found in castles. Found by Ludwig 222.

Spiral Platform: A blue ball with a swirl. You have to keep jumping to make it move, unless it falls down. Found by Ludwig 222.

Spotted Pink Block: Jumping at one of these pink and white blocks will cause it to grow, then shrink back to normal size after a short while. Found by Hip.

Spotted Red Block: They only appear when Mario is invincible. You can keep bashing them for endless coins and sometimes a Star. Found by Hip.

Spring Ball: This bouncy ball comes in two sizes. They make him able to jump higher. Found by Ludwig 222.

Squishy Block: Pounding this block makes it smaller but longer. Pushing it makes it larger but narrower. Found near the end of 4-5. Found by Ludwig 222.

Stairs: Sometimes hitting a Winged Cloud will yield a staircase, used to reach higher levels. Fun! Found by Hip.

Star: Yoshi starts every level with 10 of these and can hold up to 30. They act as a counter. If Mario gets knocked off Yoshi's back, the Stars will decrease second by second until you retrieve Mario or end up with 0 stars and have Mario get kidnapped. Yoshi will magically recover Stars if you have less then 10 and have Mario with you. Found by Hip.

Starman: When Yoshi touches this, Baby Mario becomes powered up and leads Yoshi around for a short time.

Stone Block: An egg is the only thing that'll break these. Fun! Found by Hip.

Super Watermelon: Like regular yucky watermelon, but Yoshi can use these whenever he wants because they're prizes. Boshee played the game so much that he remembered about this.

Switch: Much as it's hard to fathom, when Yoshi steps on this, something happens. This description is alike to the Winged Cloud, but blame Boshee for reminding me about it.

Tilting Platform: Standing on this platform for too long makes it tilt. Others will sometimes flip. Found in Marching Milde's Fort. Found by Ludwig 222.

Tri-Block: These come in three colors, and you need eggs to break them. Hit a red one and  it will turn it yellow. A second egg will turn it green, and another egg will break it completly. They can be found in a few fortresses and castles. Fun! Found by Hip.

Tulip: A red tulip supended in the air of many levels. Throw an enemy or item into it and stars or coins will come out. Found by Ludwig 222.

Watermelon: When Yoshi eats a green one, he can spit surprisingly powerful seeds. Red ones allow him to spit fire, and blue ones allow him to freeze enemies.

Winged Cloud: When Yoshi shoots this with an egg, something useful appears or happens.

Winged Cloud Maker: When this prize item is used, all enemies on the screen turn into Winged Clouds. I'm not sure how I forgot this, but Boshee reminded me.

Yoshi Block: If Yoshi touches this while transformed he will change back into Yoshi. Submitted by Jazzman.
