Final Fantasy VIII Review

By Simon

Scoring Note: All categories will be marked out of 10.

Story: 9

The story is about an elite force known as SeeD, who help keep things peaceful around the world. The story is mainly about a SeeD known as Squall. At the start Squall is injured after having a fight with his rival, Seifer. After he recovers he has to go with his instructor, Quistus, to the Ifrit Cavern so that he can participate in the exam. There's far more but play the game to find out!

Graphics: 9

The graphics were brilliant, they made VII's look bad!

Music: 10

Am I being too soft? But it's true, the music is ace, especially the boss music.

Characters: 8

There are a total of eleven characters who join you although only six of them will stay with you through the whole game. The thing that lets the mark down is that there isn't much of a variety among monsters. Here I'll run down the main characters.

Squall: Squall is the main character and is kind of a loner, but he is tough and has the strongest Limit.

Quistus: Quistus is Squall's instructor and favors Squall (although Squall doesn't care about her) among her students. She has trouble dealing with Seifer, though which leads to her getting fired.

Seifer: Seifer is Squall's rival and likes nothing more than to annoy Zell. His dream is to become the Sorceress' knight.

Zell: Zell is quite immature and tends to rush into things without thinking. He first met Squall at the exam.

Selphie: Selphie is a carefree person who first met Squall at the exam. She comes from Trabia Garden and misses it dearly.

Laguna: Now and again Squall and co. fall asleep and enter a "dream sequence" in which Laguna takes over as main character. He is a Galabadian soldier but would prefer to be a journalist. Maybe he's somehow connected to Squall...

Kiros: Kros is a Galabadian soldier who works with Laguna. Not much is known about him.

Ward: Ward is the other Galabadian soldeir working with Laguna. Again not much is known.

Riona: Riona is a member of the Timber resitance who fight for Timber's independance. She first met Squall at the graduation although Riona is not a SeeD. She likes Squall.

Irvine: Irvine is an assasin who likes girls and is from Galabadia. He joins Squall when they need to assassinate the Sorceress.

Edea: Edea is the evil Sorceress, but she's not that bad...

Ultimecia: Who is she? You'll have to find out.

Items: 10

It's an RPG game so it's obvious that there's a lot of items.

Gameplay: 8

The game is fun to play but can get really hard to understand at parts. You'll soon learn and once you do you'll really enjoy the game.

Lifespan: 10

You'll be having many late-nights once you've bought this. It takes AGES to complete this and there are many secrets too.

Replayability: 5

Unfortuanately after all those secrets you may never play the game again.

Overall: 9

A great game and an even bigger challenge!

Recomendation: If you have a Playstation and are quite a good gamer, buy this now! If not go read my Sonic Advance Review.
