Star Wars: Rogue Leader Review

By Videogamerpat

Star Wars: Rogue Leader is the sequel to one of the best selling games on the N64, Star Wars: Rogue Squadrent. I'm going to review this game on a 10 point scale because I'm unoriginal.

Graphics: 10

Wow, what more is there to say? The graphics here are amazing. I dare to say they are better then Super Smash Brothers Melee. Bravo Lucas Arts.

Sound: 9

Great sound effects in this game. Everything in this game, from the laser blasts to the engine sounds, sounds extremely relistic, except for the fact that it can't sound realistic since the game is based on a fictional movie. Oh well. It's even got voices dirrectly from the movie. The only reason that this lost a point is because sometimes voices get cut off, especially in the battle against the huge Imperial fleet.

Music: 9

All your favorite Star Wars music returns in this great sequel, and it sounds great. Nothing really that new here but it sure sounds good.

Difficulty: 10

Geez, this game is much harder then its prequel, which I thought was extremely hard. I can't even earn a single gold medal! Even with cheating!

Secrets: 7

Rogue Leader has many secrets to uncover, including tech upgrades, new ships, and four new levels. This catagory lost points for one problem. Why is it that the only Imperial ship you can use on rebel missions is a tie fighter? It's so weak it can barely withstand a single hit. Why not bring back the tie interceptor from the original or maybe even the mighty Tie Advanced? And why is it that the tie fighter is so hard to gain anyway? Also all the ships are so unoriginal. Why not bring in a ship from Episode II? Oh well.

Terrain: 6

This is where the game suffers a bit. I'm not saying it's bad or anything, and I know that it's supposed to be that way, but half of the battle takes place in space. The whole space background gets kind of boring after a while. The other levels though have great varied levels. Love the graphics on the Death Star levels.

Originality: 4

Great try Lucus Arts, but the originality factor is very low for this game. It's your basic shoot the tie fighters and beat the mission. In fact, the only Imperial enemies I recall seeing in this game are the tie fighters, tie interceptors, AT-ATs, AT-PTs, and AT-STs.

Controls: 8

Great controls, but I miss being able to speed up for as long as I want with the A button. I don't like the whole new short boosts thing. Also, giving your wingmen orders during battles is a little distracting, but I think that's part of the game.

Fun Factor!: 9

This game is pretty fun if you are actually good at it. If not then crank the score down to 7.

Overall: 9

This game is great, much better then the original. This game definitely deserves a 9, but it would get a 10 if it weren't so frustratingly difficult.

Recommendation: Rent it if you want, but I doubt you'll be able to beat it in that time. I usually believe in a buy multiplayer games, rent the one-players policy, but for this game I made an exception. Buy it if you want, but you have to be extremely skilled in the Force to be able to conquer it.
