I just finished this game and need to type up the Review before I forget. All of the ratings are as follows:
1: Excellent
2: Amazing
3: Very Good
4: Pretty Good
5: Lacking
6: Poor
7: Very Poor
8: Bad
9: Terrible
Controls: 1
The controls in this game are easy to learn and use for any gamer. The controls are easily learned by the end of the first level, which is completely geared toward teaching the basics.
While the only ways to attack are a headbutt and a crush from above, the two attacks can vary in strength depending on the environment and the type of attack used. In addition to the normal controls there are several transformations that can change Wario’s form and therefore his special moves.
Length: 5
The length of the game is extremely disappointing with a meager eighteen levels and six boss levels but the length of each level keeps this rating from hitting rock bottom. A typical level has two or three forks in the road you take and also a couple of hidden pipes that travel to diamond storage zones. Except for the first level in each zone, you will have to take ten to twenty minutes finding all of the crystal pieces and the key needed to advance in the game.
Difficulty: 3
This is not a game for those lacking in patience as most of the challenge comes from carefully searching for hidden areas. All enemies except the underwater fish are easily beaten by at least one form of attack and they will not give you any trouble at all. Getting back to the start at the end of each level makes it a little tough but you shouldn’t die at all even in your first time playing... unless you're playing Super Hard mode, in which case the difficulty would get a rating of 1. Super Hard mode cuts your time limits down, raises prices on items, and makes even the easiest boss impossible to beat without raising money for the most expensive items available.
Fun: 4
This game is really fun the first time through but replaying the levels over and over to find those elusive crystal pieces will leave even the most hardcore gamer cheating off the internet. The transformations are fun but they aren’t around that often except fire and fat. Yep you heard me, Fat Wario is invincible but will turn back to normal from walking around or even touching water.
Extras: 6
True, the game has three different mini-games, but you have to pay to play them and they all require only one-button interaction. In Homerun Derby you press the A button to swing at a dot. In Wario Hop you press A to jump over cacti and rocks. In Wario Roulette you press A to play a matching game. Sounds fun, right? Didn’t think so.
Music: 6
This game’s music repeats over and over in various levels and gets annoying. You can find hidden CDs in the levels to listen to new music in the sound room, but it is all really BAD! The “Avocado Song”? Come on, this music is lucky to get a rating of 6.
Graphics: 2
The graphics are really good for Gameboy Advance and the backgrounds are wonderful and give subtle clues to the player. I especially like the cute maps on the walls in the Hotel Horror level.
Replay Value: 8
This is what hurts the game’s overall rating the most. The game just isn’t fun a second time through. The bosses are fun but you beat them once and you can’t return to fight them unless you start another file or beat the entire game again.
Overall: 4
This is just the average of all the other ratings. It’s a fun game but I would borrow it from a friend or buy it only if I were a big Wario fan.
