Genre: Action
Platform: Game Boy Advance
Info: Super Mario Advance 2 is a GBA
remake of the classic SNES game, Super Mario World. Also added in is a
remake of the original arcade game, Mario Bros.
Just like my previous Review, this one will be rated on a 1-5 star scale.
Graphics: ***
The graphics are okay, and very colorful, but at the time when the first game out it wasn't exactly the full potential of a SNES game.
Sound/Music: ***1/2
Okay sound effects, and some of the music is alright. But some level music gets rather repetitive and sometimes annoying.
Characters: ****
The SNES version was the first game to introduce Yoshi, so I give this game a high rating. And it has the Koopa Kids! The only problem is that the colors of the Koopalings are way off.
Difficulty: ****
It isn't too difficult, but it is challenging enough to keep you at it for quite a while. At least it's not one of those impossible games.
Controls: ***
A little better than the SNES game, due to the removal of the X and Y buttons. Simple enough, yet it does its job.
Gameplay: ****
Very good gameplay, with plenty of levels and worlds. A very good platformer.
Levels: ***1/2
The levels and worlds are quite creative. They are different from the original Mario games, but with the same style, especially the mushroom-climbing levels.
Bonus Games: **
The only bonus game they had was the puny 100-points game where you try to get three in a row by hitting random item boxes. Compared to the Super Mario Bros. 3 bonus games, this is nothing.
Mario Bros. Classic: *1/2
Oh come on. Are they gonna put this in every Mario GBA game? It's not even that good of a game. The only reason I even gave it an extra 1/2 star is because I kind of like playing it once in a while.
Replayability: ****
With plenty of levels and secret exits, plus the Special Zone and Star World, this is a game that will keep you playing. But after a while, if you've beaten it 100 %, it starts to get repetitive.
Fun Factor!: ****
A very fun game, with lots of originality.
Overall: ***1/2
A good remake, buy it if you want. At the very least rent it if you don't have the original SNES Mario World.
