Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Review

By Larry's Clone

I'm trying to review a game. Jedi Knight II is a PC game I own; I always liked this game and thought I could review it. It is the third title in the Dark Forces series.

This Review is on a scale of 1 - 6, the total number of Star Wars movies, Including episode 3.

Graphics: 5 1/2

This game has great graphics. The characters look very realistic, and the weapons have excellent detail. If you don't have a good processor the cutscenes can get messed up, but all in all, tt has great graphics.

Storyline: 6

This has a good storyline. The idea is that the main character, Kyle Katarn, is on a mission for the New Republic. An Evil Jedi named Dessann kills his pilot and good friend Jan Ores. Kyle has to avenge Jan, stop the Empire's plot to give the Force to non-Jedis, and learn the ways of the Force again. The whole vengeance bit is pretty good and there are some other plot twists, but I'm not going to spoil it.

Enemies: 4 1/2

The enemies are well done, but they get repetitive. You go around and face wave after wave of Stormtroopers or Grans or whatever. But these are better enemies than in the other Dark Forces games.

Characters: 5 1/2

There are a lot of characters! Sometimes it gets hard to keep track of who's who. The characters are well developed and have set personalities. I especially like the Bartender from the streets of Nar Shaada who pronounces the last word in each sentence plural. The cameos are also pretty good. Why wasn't there a Han Solo cameo?

Controls: 2

The controls STINK! There, I said it! The controls are confusing; aiming with the mouse is difficult and the jump button is too far from the movement controls, making it tough to do a lightsabre move in midair because of the mouse controls. They're just too confusing! Lucas Arts should really have rethought the controls.

Difficulty: 5

This is a game that can be frustrating at times, but it isn't impossible. It has the perfect blend of difficulty and easiness.

Levels: 5

Big, beautiful levels! But there isn't very much variety in the overview. You're on the Carin Installation for four levels, but the scenery changes enough so that you won't get bored. The detail is great. I especially like the streets of Nar Shaddaa.

Replayability: 4

Not the best replay value, but it still is a game you won't get bored with too fast.

Overall: 5

Great game, good graphics. All in all, a good game. The controls may be bad, but that's excusable. It was just plain old funny to hear the Bartender from NS yell out "Please noble Jedis, not in the faces." If you don't own this game, get it. It rocks!
