Warcraft III is a strategy-war game for the PC that came out in 2002. It's the sequel of Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, Warcraft- whatever, you get the picture. It's rated T for teen because of blood and violence, and believe me, you'll be seeing lots of that in this game. Basically you have to build a big base, accumulate large amounts of gold and lumber, amass a huge army, and then go destroy your enemy's base or camp. There are also many different kinds of objectives though.
I shall be reviewing on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being ghastly and 10 being excellent.
Story: 8
The Orcs and the humans are still waging that war they started long ago. Suddenly big fireballs rain from the sky. It's the new threat, the demons are attacking and they start destroying both orcs and humans. The orcs and the humans have to stop fighting each other for a moment and fight against the bigger danger. The story takes some really cool and unpredictable twists and turns but I won't say anything even if I really want to.
Graphics: 9
Wow! Those FMVs look extraordinary.
Very well done, I'm sure they took a lot of time to do everything
perfect. The people look very real,
and the hair is awesome. The in game graphics are good, but they are a
bit blocky. But of course, this is
no GameCube.
Sound: 6
I can describe the music in one word:
BAD! This music is horrible. I can't argue with the fact that it fits
the atmosphere, but the only music
I remember is some kind of... I can't describe it correctly, sorry. The
sound effects are very good, no complaints there.
Characters: 10
Oh no, another perfect score. But really, this game lets you play as four races: the humans, the orcs, the dark elves, and the undead. Each race follows its own storyline and each one has its own types of units, if you know what I mean.
Secrets: 7
Yippee, many secrets. In this game, if you explore the entire map, you are sure to find many optional objectives and many treasures, sometimes guarded by powerful enemies.
Items: 8
Items? When has a strategy-war game had items? It's true, you can carry up to six items that will help you, like healing potions, attack raisers, etc. There are a lot of different items here.
Difficulty: 7
Whoa, this game is quite hard. It only
has two difficulty levels, Normal and Hard. It is hard, but
the consolation is that if you lose
the level you can lower the difficulty level a notch, but when you beat
it the next level is reset to the original difficulty.
Controls: 8
These are very good controls, I almost never have trouble with them. There are only small details wrong with them. Although I'm sure that it's just my computer, there are those huge lags that make me lose. It's not that my computer is THAT bad, but this game just needs too much. Oh well, I'll leave it at that.
Replayability: 9
Talk about immense replayability. You can play again on a higher difficulty level, but the real replayability comes from playing online, multiplayer, and creating levels with the World Editor.
Fun Factor!: 8
This is one of those times where if
you hate this type of game, you won't have fun. If you like this then
you're sure to have good fun with this
one.
Overall: 8
Very good game! An amazing addition
to the strategy genre. Almost every category is great and I'm sure
this is one of the best strategy-war
games out there.
Recommendation: If you are going to
buy at least one strategy-war game this year, this should be it. If you
like this genre then by all means get
this great game.
