Bomberman Generation is an action/adventure game for the GCN that was released the year of 2002. It's rated E for everyone. I will review on a scale of 1 to 10. As always, 1 is dreadful and 10 is excellent.
Story: 7
Some six pieces of rock called the bomb
elements that are very powerful and dangerous if they fall into the wrong
hands are being transported in a spaceship. Suddenly some bad guys called
the HIGE HIGE bandits
attack the spaceship because they want
to steal the bomb elements, but unfortunately for them, the bomb
elements fall on a nearby planet. So,
you as Bomberman have to find the bomb elements before the HIGE HIGE bandits
do. Not a fabulous and inspiring story, but it works.
Graphics: 9
These graphics are really good, very colorful. I just love the way you can see the water inside a water bomb. Thumbs up on this one.
Sound: 9
Again, a great score. The characters
talk and the bomb blasts are really nice. The music is pretty good,
above average.
Characters: 7
Well, the characters are all good; the bosses are really cool, and the enemies are all fairly interesting.
Length: 8
Pretty good length. There are five worlds
to pass and if you take your time and try to find everything, it's
probably as long as SMRPG.
Secrets: 8
You can find extra hearts, the lightning cards, charaboms, etc. The different kinds of bombs are sort of secret, but they're necessary.
Difficulty: 6
For the first three worlds or so, the game is incredibly easy. Sometimes, if you can't solve a puzzle, it's either because you're trying too hard or because the camera is at a bad angle. On the last two worlds it gets a little bit harder but it's still pretty easy. However, sometimes it can get hard when you need something that you missed from another level to pass this level and you don't know about it.
Controls: 9
The controls are really easy to learn and to use. I never had any trouble with them.
Battle Mode: 8
This is the multiplayer part of the game. It is up to four players and it has five different modes of play. This mode is probably only fun when you play it with other people. You can customize settings to your liking and choose between a bunch of different and interesting stages to play in.
Charabom System: 6
This system has Pokémon rip-off
written all over it. Pokémon haters will probably not like it because
it has a huge resemblance to Pokémon. Pokémon lovers will
also probably not like it because most of these people
hate rip-offs of the original franchise.
Anyway, you first get a starting Charabom, which gives you a unique power,
then you level it up by getting attack up, defense up, and special up power-ups
in the game. When you encounter a Charabom, you must battle it with your
Charaboms. When you win, you get that new
Charabom. The only use for the Charaboms
is the special power they give you, which is used in your quest. It would
have been easier to just use normal power-ups instead of strange creatures.
Replayability: 4
The only replayability here is trying to get all the different Charaboms or other secrets. And once you beat the game, there's not much point to doing it. Nothing else.
Fun Factor!: 8
This is a very fun game, especially when you're fighting against the bosses. This is one of the games that has the most fun boss battles I have seen. It's just so much fun trying again and again to defeat the bosses. I was always eager to reach the next boss.
Overall: 7 1/2
Overall, this is a pretty good game, which is a good addition to the Bomberman series.
Recommendation: If you like Bomberman games, get this one, as well as if you like action/adventure games. However, if you want a game that will provide a solid challenge, skip this one, as it's too easy.
