Hi! It’s me, Dane “Bond” Petersen. To tell you, Dane Petersen from Survivor 3 was me. I was just using another one of my characters in that story. Anyway, I’m going to review Snowboard Kids 2 for N64. As you probably know, this Review will be on a 1-5 star scale.
Story: ***
The game stars six kids around the ages of 10-13. They are called the Snowboard Kids and, uh... they like to snowboard I guess, seeing as that’s mainly what they do in the whole game. Anyway, their names are, Slash, Jam, Tommy, Linda, Nancy, and Wendy. Slash and Jam are sort of equivelent of Lemmy and Iggy, Tommy’s a glutton, Linda’s the rich one, Nancy is well, normal I guess, and Wendy is the smart one. Anyway, there is also this demon-like kid named Damien who wants to cause chaos, I guess. I really don’t know much about the story because the animation sequences before each level have absolutely no dialogue. I wish they did. -_-
Graphics: ***
Uh, they are okay I guess. The people on the sidelines of the course look like they belong in Paper Mario, as they are nothing but moving cardboard cut-out-like people. Other than that, I like the graphics.
Sound: ***
What’s with all the average scores I’m giving this game?! Anyway, there’s nothing really exellent about the music, but it’s not horrible either. I just think they could make it better at least.
Gameplay: ****
Well, this game is really just Mario Kart on snowboards. I did give it a point for some good additions, like getting to choose a board at the beginning of a race. There are three types of boards, Speed, Trick and Balance. If you want good control, pick Balance. Trick makes tricks more successful, and Speed is fast but hard to control. Also, each character has different stats that are added onto the board’s stats. You know, like if a character has three points in Speed and the board he or she chooses to race on has four points in the Speed category, then they get seven speed points total for the race. Also, unlike Mario Kart, your character can have two items at a time, one weapon and one item. The weapons attack characters while items do certain things like slow down opponents or steal money from them. And don’t think you can get an item or weapon from a box just by going through it as you can in Mario Kart, you need to have at least 100G on you. G (Money) in earned by picking up coins o the track. Also, you get G at the end of a race. With the G you have in your bank account you can buy new boards and get new designs for your board.
Control: ****
Stick: Move
A: Jump. Hold down to crouch. If you
tap it while crouching right as you go off a jump, you can preform a trick.
B: Use items.
C Buttons: Grab tricks in midair.
Z: Use weapon.
R: Look behind you.
Start: If you don’t know what this
does, put a paper bag over your head and turn off the game.
OVERALL: ***
Don’t get me wrong, I like this game. I just wish they had put talking in the animation sequences and made some minor ajustments. This game is probably worth a rental. Also, if you get bored with 1-player mode, there’s always the classic VS mode!
