Final Fantasy VII Review

By Arim

Final Fantasy VII is an RPG that came out in 1997. It's for the PS1 but there is also a version for the PC. You can also play it on the PS2 if you wish, but I'm sure everyone already knew that. This is the game that made me love RPGs for the rest of my life, so give it respect!

This is rated T for teen because of some offensive language. Sometimes they use bad words and sometimes they use symbols to block it out. Does that mean that the blocked out ones are too harsh? Anyway, I'll be reviewing on a scale of 1 to 10, as usual. 1 is repulsive and 10 is excellent.

Story: 10

This time I won't complain one bit about the perfect score. This game has an incredible story. It's just
awesome and moving. Huh? You want to know the story? Fine, I'll give you the basics. Cloud (or another
name, because you can name him) is the main character, the one you can use. The story starts out with Cloud jumping out of a train with part of a group called AVALANCHE. This group wants to destroy some reactors called mako reactors that are sucking the life out of the planet. Well, they only get to destroy one before they are separated from Cloud by Shinra, the company that makes the mako reactors and pretty much runs the city. Anyway, the story gets really cool from here (I'm not about to give away anymore) and there are many impressive twists and turns. No game has had this good of a storyline, not even Final Fantasy X.

Graphics: 9

For the time of its release these graphics were groundbreaking, totally awesome and just downright good. The characters look a lot polygonal outside of battle but hey, they look really good in battle and especially in FMVs.

Sound: 9

I really like the music in this game. The battle music is great, especially the boss music. The sound effects
are all really good too. I can't say anything bad about the sound, but I'll give it a nine because, well, you know how I am.

Battle System: 7

As you can see, I'm not going soft. Even though I love the battle system, I've got to say that it isn't very original. It got a somewhat high score because of the totally cool limit breaks. Limit breaks are super attacks that each character can execute when their limit gauge is full. The gauge increases as the character is hit, and the heavier the blow, the more it rises. It carries on to the next battle by the way.

Characters: 8

Great character selection. You can choose between nine characters each with his/her own unique skills and
limit breaks. There are many excellent enemies and bad guys too!

Difficulty: 8

Alright, now this game is pretty tough. Some puzzles are just mind-boggling and almost all the bosses are
extremely hard to defeat. We're talking about the hardest final boss of all history here, at least in my opinion. The FFVIII final boss was hard but there was a trick to beating it.

Items: 9

This is an RPG, so of course it has to have a lot of items. They're all great and you can even put them in the order you like!

Secrets: 10

A round of applause and a big "Wow!" from me. There are loads of secrets, from secret limit breaks to
secret bosses to secret storyline fragments to secret weapons to secret areas to- gasp! It's extraordinary.

Controls: 9

The controls are great. Even though this is an RPG, you can't take your sweet time. If you don't attack
quickly, your opponent will attack before you. You have to be fast in your battles. Of course, the controls are all easy to learn and comfortable, so you should have an easy time.

Length: 10

Please don't get mad at me for giving so many perfect scores! This game is HUGE. It's three CDs long, and the secrets make it even longer. It's super long, I played it for so long.

Replayability: 7

Well, some of you won't want to play it again for a long time after you beat it, but there are so many different paths that you can take, miscellaneous stuff that you probably missed, that many will want to play it again. I'm not talking about the secrets here; I'm talking about replaying the game as a whole.

Fun Factor!: 9

For people who don't totally detest RPGs that is. This game is a whole lot of fun. There are so many cool features. I don't know about other people, but for me, just running around and battling was fun.

Overall: 9

Whoa! My second favorite game of all time didn't get a perfect score? Well, I'll just tell you that it'll be
extremely hard to get a perfect score from me. It most likely won't happen. That's just the way I am. Anyway,
this is an incredibly good game that is exceptionally good in all the categories.

Recommendation: If you love or like RPGs, then I can't understand why you wouldn't have this game. Go get it right now! If you have never played RPGs or don't like them, then try renting it first. Perhaps this game
will make you love RPGs just like it did for me, or perhaps it will change your perception of RPGs to a positive one. Try it.
