Scoring note: This, like all my other
Reviews, will be scored out of 10.
Story: 2
Not much to say here, all these trophies
come to life (it's not the real guys fighting) and want to fight. Talk
about original...
Graphics: 10
WOW!!! I have never seen graphics this
good! Mario's overalls look so real, Bowser looks awesome, and Kirby looks
so, um, puffy.
Music: 9
The music is great! There's lots of
classic music from many different games. For example, when battling in
Mushroom Kingdom you hear the classic Super Mario tune sounding exactly
the same as it did on the NES. Not only are there so many tunes, they all
sound so good! My favorite would have to be the Super Mario Bros. 3 tune,
it sounds awesome.
Characters: 7
There are a lot of characters (25 individual
characters all together). However, the down side is that some are just
copies having slightly different abilities or looks (Link and Young Link
for example). Why put in these when you could put in characters who deserve
to be in the game? Diddy Kong, Mega Man, and King Dedede are just a few
examples of characters who should have appeared. Here is a list of all
the characters:
Starting characters
Mario
Peach
Bowser
Yoshi
DK
Captain Falcon
Pikachu
Kirby
Ice Climbers
Fox McCloud
Samus Aran
Ness
Link
Zelda/Sheik
Secret Characters
Jigglypuff
Dr. Mario
Pichu
Young Link
Ganondorf
Falco Lombardi
Mewtwo
Marth
Luigi
Roy (Not Roy Koopa)
Mr. Game & Watch
Items: 9
There's a very large selection of items
including the Pokeball, Starman, and Warp Star. Each serves a different
purpose and by using them right you'll draw closer to victory. Watch out
for Party Balls, Bob-ombs, and Capsules, sometimes they'll lead you to
victory, other times they'll make you lose.
Gameplay: This category is being split
up into all the different games you can play.
Vs: 10
Normal versus match, it's brilliant!
Classic: 6
Defeat one opponent (or more) after
another to make your way to the Master Hand. Gets boring after a while.
Adventure: 8
This is quite origianal. You go through
different stages (sometimes sidescrolling) and beat the opponents to make
your way to Bowser or Giga Bowser.
All-Star: 6
Battle each opponent in the game with
only three Hearts to heal you. Gets a little boring.
Homerun Contest: 9
Who says that you can't have fun in
ten seconds? In the Homerun Contest you must soften up the sandbag and
then hit it as far as you can.
Multi-Man Melee: 4
Ugh! Here you must fight the Fighting
Wire Frames. This can be as easy as beating 10 or as hard as beating 100,
as simple as surviving for 3 minutes or as grueling as surviving for 15
minutes, as simple as KOing as many of them as you can in an infinite amount
of time or as exhausting as beating as many super-charged Wire Frames as
you can, with no items! This mode gets very annoying sometimes, which lowers
the score.
Target Test: 7
Here you must break all the targets
as quickly as possible. Each character's stage is different. It can be
quite fun.
Event Match: 8
Here you're placed with a mission, and
you must complete it. Sound simple? The first few are, but Event 51 will
take many, many attempts.
Lifespan: 9
Unlocking all the characters will take
a while, unlocking all the stages takes longer, completing all the events
takes longer, and even then there still a max number of 290 trophies in
the game (although under special circumstances *coughGamesharkcough* you
can get 293).
Replayability: 9
You will never get bored of Vs Mode.
Frustration Factor: 5
The only frustrating things in the game
are beating 15 minute Multi-Man Melee and the grueling task of unlocking
Mewtwo.
Fun Factor: 9
This game has fun written all over,
even if you collect all the trophies you'll still want to play Vs Mode.
Overall: 9
I hope all GCN games are as good as
this. Roll on Super Smash Bros.3!
Recommendation: What?! Your still reading
this? Get the game now!
Favorite Characters: For those who
are interested, here are my five favourite characters.
1. Roy
2. Yoshi
3. Bowser
4. Mr. Game & Watch
5. Kirby
