Reel Fishing Review

By Crazy Packers Fan

This is another very strange game I don't know why I bought. This is a PlayStation game based on fishing,
which only cost $10 at the time I bought it. I wanted to try out video game fishing, and so did my dad. But how good could it possibly be?

This is another 0-4 star Review. I'm sorry for wasting your time further by saying this.

Graphics: *

The graphics are just plain ugly. They don't give you the feel of being at some river, more like you're staring at a painting- a very bad painting. Everything seems blurred or not real.

Sound: ***1/2

Well, at least the sound effects make you feel like you're there. The music is soft, giving the peaceful fishing atmosphere, and the water sounds, including rushing water and splashing, give you the feel that you are actually fishing. It's nice to have some type of feel for the place, while the graphics take away from it.

Difficulty: ***1/2

This game is part luck and part confusion. So, even if you get lucky and a fish grabs your line, you still may not be able to reel in your fish. Confusing controls add to the confusion. If I understood exactly what to do, then I bet the game wouldn't be that hard, but it's so confusing. If you get a fishing rod controller, this is easy, but I don't have one.

Controls: no stars

The controls are confusing to death. I don't understand what happens once you've hooked the fish, or how even to get the fish on the line. A fishing rod controller, again, would probably pick this score up quite a bit, but it doesn't quite do it here.

Gameplay: *

The gameplay gets killed by the poor controls. If you can't control the character, you can't play the game well. It's as simple as that. There's nothing that fun that can pick the gameplay up any.

Fishing Lodge: **1/2

This place isn't bad. If you catch fish, you can let them swim in a tank here and see them anytime you want, and there are lots of other options, too. Can it help this game out any? No, not really, but it's good on its own.

Replayability: 1/2

I think I only played this game during the week that I had the game, and that was it for the game. I never
really wanted to play it again, and that kind of seals the deal for it. If you like fishing, maybe you will play it longer. I slightly like fishing, so it gets a nice big half of a star here.

Fun Factor!: 1/2

If the fishing was for huge fish, and if the controls were easier to use, maybe this game would be fun, but it's not fun. It's boring, and I can't explain it any better than that.

OVERALL: 1/2

Wow. What a game. I'm sure they could have done a little better of a job with this, because I would have liked to see a fun fishing game. I know the handheld fishing rod-shaped games are a lot of fun, but not this one. Maybe it would have been a little more fun with a fishing rod controller, but I really don't think it is worth spending $10 more on it. The verdict? Skip it, even for fishing fans. I'm sure that if you want a fishing game really badly, you can buy a more expensive one that gives you the true fishing experience. Though some could argue this boredom is true fishing...
