Pinball Review

By Crazy Packers Fan

This game, the first game I ever rented, is another NES game that was released for the e-Reader recently. It was considered ground-breaking to translate a pinball game into a video game (although technically the Atari had done that before). I will be reviewing the NES version of the game, although the e-Reader version on the GBA is supposed to be identical.

The 0-4 star scale will be used yet again. It's one of the few things that has not changed over all this time.

Graphics: *1/2

On the NES, graphics usually aren't good to begin with, so less is expected. But with a pinball game, even less is expected, and that's what happened here. There's no real dimension to anything, just the typical NES shapes that look good enough. Really, in a pinball game, not much is needed from the graphics department, so it doesn't really matter here.

Sound: **

The sound to this game is not bad, and I somewhat like the background music. The problem is that some of the sound effects are very annoying, especially that chirping heard in the upper level when you hit that platform that moves back and forth. If you can ignore some of the annoying sound effects, then the sound is
all right.

Difficulty: ***1/2

The annoying thing about a pinball game is that it is almost impossible to direct your shot. The ball just goes wherever the game feels like putting it, whether that's way up high to the next level, into the Mario mini-game, into one of the pockets where you'll lose a ball, wherever. In other words, you have no control other than just hitting the ball with your paddles and hoping for the best. You're basically just watching a
movie the rest of the time.

Controls: ****

The controls couldn't be easier. You just hit the A button to hit the paddles. That's as easy as it gets. I can't even explain them any more than this.

Gameplay: 1/2

All you do is hit the paddles. Intriguing, isn't it? Actually, it can be a lot of fun to watch, especially if you're really bored. But really... who wants to just hit the paddles and then just sit there?

Mario Mini-Game: ***

The only thing in this game that has any real challenge to it, you run back and forth using Mario, hoping to hit balls to free the princess and then save her from falling or running off the edge. Even then, too much luck is involved for it to be a really intriguing mini-game. That's not to mention that it's very hard to get to.

Replayability: no stars

Maybe you'll want to play this game a few times, but not that much. It's even shorter than Pokémon Pinball. It's really as short as a game gets.

Fun Factor!: 1/2

I could be overly sarcastic here (by saying "Wow! How fun!" and stuff), but I figure that you've gotten the point by now... this is a boring game.

OVERALL: 1/2

Wow, what a game. It's so short, it relies so much on luck, and it involves practically no skill whatsoever. That isn't that great, on anyone's standards. Don't even rent it, if it's possible to rent a NES game or an e-Reader card.
