Sega GT Review

By Crazy Packers Fan

This Sega Dreamcast racing game is yet another one of my many racing titles that I have collected over the years. This one, though, wasn't one I had any expectations for. It was just a free game that I got for purchasing the Dreamcast.

This, again, is a Review on a 0-4 star scale. I'm sure you all know that by now.

Graphics: ***

I was quite impressed with the graphics in this game. Never mind that the Dreamcast is supposed to be a 128-bit system (it's more like halfway between a N64 and a Cube), but even for a 128-bit system the graphics are not bad. They're actually pretty smooth, and you've got a little bit of the feeling of actually being there. That's pretty amazing just in itself.

Sound: *

The sound was unimpressive, mainly because I can't even remember the music. In most games, the tunes stick with me for life (I can still hum the NES Ice Hockey tune easily), but in this game, the music wasn't anything to get excited over.

Difficulty: **

This game wasn't too hard. It's not like it was especially easy, but I can't ever remember really struggling with it. The turning was adequate enough for me, and I could do everything with ease. That's not to say it was easy to win, of course.

Controls: ***1/2

I found the controls to work well for this game, but then again, it's not that hard to only have to push two buttons and the control stick.

Gameplay: 1/2

The gameplay, in short, is boring. The tracks (which I'll get to in a moment) don't help any, but since you're just going around these tracks only turning and not doing much more, you'll get really tired with this game in no time. It's too bad, really. It could have actually been a good game due to ease with the controls and difficulty.

Tracks: no stars

There haven't been tracks this boring since NASCAR. There are no shortcuts, hardly any off-road areas, and just turns and turns and turns. They will bore you before you can even partially get into this game. That's a shame.

Cars: ***

I like what you can do with cars in this game. You can go in the garage and modify them and do other stuff as well to them. It's actually pretty fun. If you enjoy car mechanics and that, try this mode out, but don't actually race!

Replayability: 1/2

The only thing to play this game for is to fool around with the cars. Other than that, you won't enjoy the racing any, so why even do the racing modes to it? You won't want to play this game much after the first time, believe me.

Fun Factor!: *

Again, the fun in this game is the car garage mode, and that's about it. You won't enjoy actually going on the tracks and driving, so the entire point of modifying the cars just leads you to boring races. One good mode can't make a game fun, unfortunately.

OVERALL: *

I think I've said it enough times. The car modifying is fun and the racing is boring. I'm sorry for being so redundant, but that's the whole theme of this game, and that's why not to get the game. It doesn't hurt if you get the game as part of a Dreamcast package, but don't pay any extra money for it. This game is not worth more than a rent.
