Mario Party 4 Review

By Timmy

Mario Party 4 is the first Mario Party for GameCube. If you don't know what the game is about read the Reviews for the previous Parties. I will review this game on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being highest.

Graphics: 8

The graphics are way cool, better than the N64 Mario Parties. It is on the GameCube, though, so they should be. There are 3D boards and good textures. The mini-games look great and have special effects like in Luigi's Mansion, like how dust sprays up and stuff like that. The only reasons the graphics aren't perfect is because of the water effects and some of the mini-games, like one where you must paddle a boat through a cave, are too dark. Mario Sunshine has better water effects, but the reflections in the ice and water are cool.

Sound: 10

The sound is perfect for this game. It has all the people talking, saying I won, I lost, WAHHH, etc. Princess Daisy's speech volume is too low. Her voice is good but the volume is low. The board music is great and the mini-game sounds are cool.

Characters: 10

There are a lot of chracters in this game. You can play as  Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Wario, Donkey Kong, and Waluigi. There are many others as well, like Lakitu, Boo, Goomba, Koopa, Shy Guy, Toad, Cheep Cheep, butterflies, and more.

Mini-Games: 8

There are 50 mini-games in the whole game. That's the same number as in the original Mario Party, but the games are much different. The mini-games are fun and cool to look at. I took off two points because there need to be more 2 vs 2, free-for-all, and battle games.

Boards: 8

These are five good boards. There are many, many spaces on them:Blue, Red, Happening, Battle, Bowser, Mushroom, and Fortune. The boards are all 3D and fun to play. The only reason i gave it an 8 is because they all resemble places in previous games. Goomba's Greedy Gala resembles SMS' Hotel Delfino casino, Shy Guy's Jungle Jam resembles DK's Jungle from the first Mario Party, Toad's board resembles Pinna Park in SMS, Boo's looks like Luigis Mansion, and Koopa's resembles SMS in general.

Party Mode: 10

Perfect for any needs, 4-player action, all the boards, it is just perfect.

Story Mode: 7

You try to earn gifts by winning on a board and then winning a special mini-game. It isn't exciting playing by yourself but it is better than the one-player mode in the previous Parties.

Mini-Game Mode: 9

Perfect. Just play mini-games. It is spatacular. The only problem is you have to unlock them first!

Present Mode: 5

You just view the gifts you unlocked through Story Mode. The reason I gave it a 5 is because you can do Story Mode with every character and recive everyone's items. It is fun to view them.

Extra Room: 6

It is okay. You can either play Thwomp's or Whomp's mini-games. Thwomp has boards to play on. He also has Challenge Booksquirm, and Panel Panic. Whomp has mini-games for the single player.

Items: 10

There are many cool items. What can I say, there's just a lot of them and they're cool too.

Replayability: 10

You will keep coming back for more!

Overall: 9

It is very fun, and you will keep coming back. It only needs more mini-games.
