Graphics: ****
Awesome graphics! It's graphics are
even better than Luigi's Mansion's! It's got one of the best graphics for
any game! Very, very, very good job in this category.
Sound/Music: ****
Not only does each and every character
have good sound effects, but I really like the music in this game! There
are so many good themes in this game that I can't count them all. Some
of my favorite themes include the Dr. Mario theme, the Mute City theme,
the Fire Emblem theme, the Big Blue theme, and the Poke Floats theme.
Difficulty: **
This game's difficulty isn't too easy nor too hard. Most of the time, you choose the difficulty you want, so you can easily build up your skills to tackle the harder stages if you're a beginner.
Controls: ***
The controls in the game are pretty
easy to master. Control Stick moves your character, Down makes your character
duck, and Up lets them jump (X and Y can also be used for jumping). A (which
also picks up items) and the Control Stick do normal attacks, depending
on how hard you tilt the Stick. You also have aerial attacks, grabbing
attacks (press Z to grab, A to attack if you want, and the Control Stick
to throw), and Special Attacks (B and the Control Stick). L or R puts up
a character's sheild for absorbing attacks, although it gets weaker the
longer you hold it. You can also roll (L/R + Forward) and sidestep (L/R
+ Down). The controls are pretty easy to master. A minor complaint is when
picking up an item you want in a group, it's easy to grab the wrong one.
Characters: *1/2
Although there are a lot of characters
in the game, there are a lot that resemble others, having very similar
attacks, usually weaker or stronger, but slower or faster. And then there
seems to be many characters left out (No Koopalings? No Wario?) Oh well.
Favorite Characters: Just wondering
what my favorite five characters are? Well, here they are:
1. Ness
2. Pichu
3. Dr. Mario
4. Kirby
5. Donkey Kong
Items: ***
The items are helpful to use and there
are a lot of them. Some items are very weak (Fire Flower, Ray Gun) and
others are very strong (Home Run Bat, Hammer). The Home Run Bat is really
the best item, because one smash attack with it instantly KO's a character.
Stages: ***1/2
These levels you fight on are very
fun to play. Some of my favorites are Fourside, Final Destination, and
Corneria (jump onto the guns below the ship!). Some scroll and usually
seem harder (Icicle Mountain comes to mind...). You get KO'ed when you
fall, get sent flying up very far, or get sent flying too far to the left
or right, if you didn't know.
Vs. Mode: ****
This mode is perfect. Basically, you're
fighting to get a lot of KO's and other records, like Falls or Self-Destructs
(which are both bad). There are also Tournament Melees, where you face
other characters in to get to the top of the tournament tree. It's fun
to play if you're with some other friends. There are also Special Melees,
which is a normal melee with special rules, like all characters being giant,
tiny, fast, or slow. Try playing a Giant Melee in Flat Zone!
Classic Mode: ***
In this mode, you go through a series
of battles. There are 1-on-1s, a 2-on-2, a 1-on-3 (with the one being giant),
and a 1-on-10 (with the team of 10 being very light). There's also a fight
with a metal character and the fight with Master Hand, who has 150-360
HP, depending on the difficulty. The Crazy Hand also appears when you're
on Normal or higher and cleared the rest of Classic quickly.
Adventure Mode: ***1/2
This mode is more fun than Classic
Mode because of the side-scrolling stages. The characters are not random,
but on certain stages you might fight a different character. The Mushroom
Kingdom stage (full of Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Koopa Paratroopas) is
fun play, and so is the Underground Maze stage. This mode also seems harder
than Classic.
All-Star Mode: no stars
This mode is no fun at all. You have
to fight all 25 charcters in the game (at the end you fight 25 Mr. Game
& Watches), and you only have one life all the way through. There are
three Heart Containers (and sometimes a trophy) you can take if you're
high on damage (they revive all your damage, not just 100%). It's not very
fun because one mistake and you'll have to try that level all over again.
This makes Hard and Very Hard become nearly ten times harder than Adventure
Mode on Very Hard! Another bad thing is that each continue costs ten coins,
not just five or so like in the other modes. This can hurt your coin total
when you're on Hard or Very Hard. When I beat it on Hard, I had to continue
about 25-35 times (a lot of them came from the second-last stage). This
means that you'll probably have to continue about 60-70 times on Very Hard!!!
Fun, fun!
Target Test: ***
The Target Test is where you're in
a level and you have to break all ten targets without getting KO'ed while
trying to get a high score. It's pretty fun to play, although I don't like
it how the timer keeps on going even if you pause it. But, otherwise, it's
a nice mode.
Home Run Contest: ***1/2
Even more fun than the Target Test,
the Home Run Contest is where you must damage the Sandbag (making sure
not to hit it off the platform) and smash it with the Home Run Bat at the
end (or, for some characters with a really powerful attack, you can use
that instead if it's damaged enough). A tip is to use the Home Run Bat
in a combo to damage up the Sandbag quickly. I'm very good at this game,
in fact my LOWEST score is 1600 ft.! You won't find anything more exciting
that lasts ten seconds.
Multi-Man Melee: **1/2
This mode is where you're trying to
either defeat a number of Fighting Wire Frames or trying to KO as many
as you can before you get KO'ed, or survive them for a time limit, depending
on the mode. Not as fun as the other two Stadium modes, but still somewhat
fun.
Event Matches: **
This is a mode where you play special
matches. A lot of them are really hard, although they do seem easier with
certain characters. They may not seem as fun as the Stadium modes, but
they are still pretty fun.
Trophies: **1/2
These are rewards when you complete
certain accomplishments. There are a lot of them (almost 300) and they
are pretty good. However, there still could've been more.
Replayability: ****
You can play this game over and over
again and have a lot of fun. You can try to get high scores if you want.
You can try to get all the bonuses, trophies, and special messages. This
game is so replayable that you can still be playing it nowadays, even if
it's over a year old.
Fun Factor!: ****
You knew this would be coming. This
game is very, very, fun. Even if you don't play multiplayer a lot, you
can still have a ton of fun. It's an obviously fun game.
Overall: ****
BUY THIS GAME!!! You won't know the
definition of a good and fun fighting game if you don't. In fact it's one
of the best games ever. Buy it!
