Another Review on a 0-4 star scale.
Graphics: **
The graphics aren't all that good, but they aren't all that bad either. There is really not all much to say about the graphics (but I really don't say much about them anyway in other Reviews) so I'll give it an average score.
Sound/Music: ***
The sound effects are okay, and the music isn't too bad as there is no theme that I really dislike, and there are some themes I like (like the Donkey Kong 3 and Fire Attack music) so I'll give a good score here.
Difficulty: ***1/2
Whoa! This game is pretty hard! There are some games that are pretty hard to beat (getting 1000+ points), especially Fire. Some games, like Boxing, are really easy. But really, there are more hard games than easy ones, and it'll take a very long time to unlock every single game, so the difficulty is pretty high.
Controls: ****
The controls in this game work like they're supposed to. Usually, there is more than one button to do the same thing (which can be useful) and there are few buttons to worry about so the score is good. Very good.
Characters: ***
Nearly every major Mario character is here and there are some (not a lot, though) of his enemies. The score here is pretty good here too, and there isn't much to explain about them.
Gameplay: I'll split this for all the games, even the museum ones. The first score is for Modern, the second for Classic. The ones with one score are the museum games.
Fire: no stars, *
This game is really hard, and not all that interesting either. The Modern version is very hard, hard enough to get three misses before 300 pts. on Easy! The Classic version isn't as frustrating, but still pretty hard.
Boxing: ****, ****
Both versions are pretty fun as they are not frustrating at all, and it even has a multiplayer mode! It's a really good game.
Rain Shower: *1/2, *1/2
Both versions are pretty much the same and there isn't much to say about them, but they both get sort of boring after a while.
Mario's Cement Factory: ***, **1/2
Both modes are okay. The Modern mode is easy and not boring. The Classic mode is the same thing, but you can't drop from a high elevator lift to a lower one, which makes the game a lot more dangerous, but still easy.
Donkey Kong 3: *1/2, **
Both modes aren't too fun, even with a multiplayer mode. Modern is just plain hard, in my mind. Classic is a little easier and better, but it looks confusing too.
Donkey Kong Jr.: ***1/2, no stars
Modern mode is just plain fun, with nice levels. Classic mode is hard and boring, and the birds are very annoying. That's all there is to say about this game.
Chef: **1/2, 1/2
Modern is okay, but not great. It's like an easier version of Fire. Classic is no cakewalk at all and is obviously hard!
Mario Bros.: **, **
No, not the Mario Bros. game we all know of, this is a game in which you have to move pies up some conveyor belts to the top. It's not too easy or hard, boring or interesting, so it gets an average rating.
Donkey Kong: ****, no stars
The two versions are total opposites of each other. Modern is pretty easy, fun, and interesting. Classic is hard and frustrating.
Octopus: *, *
Modern seems easier, but is just as bad as Classic. Both modes are exhilerating and fast. There isn't much to say here, but both modes are semi-frustrating and Modern has slippery controls.
Fire Attack: **1/2, 1/2
Modern is pretty interesting and not too frustrating. Classic is easy for the first second you play it, later on it gets much harder.
Manhole: no stars
This is the first of the museum games. Manhole is a hard and frustrating game where you must fill in a gap so the people won't fall through. It takes a lot of planning ahead to even get to 200 pts! It's that hard.
Tropical Fish: no stars
This game is very similar to Fire and it's just as frustrating and annoying, maybe even more!
Mario's Bombs Away: **1/2
A pretty interesting game, this is one where you must dash right while avoiding the fires. It's not boring, but it can be frustrating.
Parachute: **
This is a game where you catch the parachuters coming from the helicopter. It's not too hard and it doesn't get too boring, so I'll give it an average rating.
Bombsweeper: ****
One of the best games. This one is where you go through a maze to find the bomb within the time limit. The mazes are interesting and fun to play, and there are some that are brain teasers. It's a great game.
Climber: ****
In this game, you must climb all the platforms to the summit, then grab onto a bird. Climbing the platforms is fun (there are even elevator lifts and lifts that move to the right or left!) so this gets a good score.
Safe Buster: *1/2
You must catch bombs with a pipe and dump them off the side in this game. It's pretty hard, but it isn't as boring as it sounds.
Life Boat: *
Very similar to Safe Buster, this is one where you catch people from a burning ship and you take them to shore. Although it looks easier (at least on Easy) it actually seems harder.
Zelda: ****
Another adventure-like game, and another fun one too. You must battle guards on the right, avoiding the enemies. You even get to collect items on your way to help you for harder rooms!
Replayability: *
You probably won't replay this game much after collecting a TON of stars. You might want to replay it to get an even higher score than you already have, and that's about it.
Fun Factor!: **
There are a lot games that are fun, and a lot that are not. Since there are a lot of fun and frustrating games, the score gets an average rating.
Overall: **1/2
A pretty good game overall. If you don't own the other Game & Watch Galleries, it's a good buy. If you own at least two of the others, you might not want to buy it because it is a remake of a lot of the Game & Watch Gallery games. It's an above-average game overall.
