Wario World Review

By Shades Koopa

This GameCube game is rated on a scale of 1-10 because I like that Review scale the best.

Graphics: 7

The graphics are pretty decent in this game. They're bright and colorful and there's some decent detail here. But the graphics do get kind of bland in some areas and I noticed a couple of times when there are a lot of enemies on the screen, the frame rate suffers pretty badly.

Sound: 7

The sound comes through pretty clear, but there is only a limited range of sound effects in the game. The music is pretty good except for the music that comes on when you pause the game. That gets very annoying very quickly.

Difficulty: 8

The game starts out very easy to kind of lull you into the overall gameplay. However, the game can be quite difficult at times. The later levels are kind of maze-like and it can be easy to get lost in them. Unfortunately, the in-level enemies are very easy to beat and it can be quite tedious beating up the same easy enemies over and over again. But the bosses are quite fun to fight and they achieve a good balance between difficulty and fun.

Characters: 7

Wario is really the only Nintendo character in the game. The enemies are pretty bland and you'll quickly forget them once you beat them. The bosses, however, I liked. The bosses are all big and crazy-looking and you really end up thoroughly enjoying the boss battles.

Storyline: 6

Not much of a storyline here. Basically, an evil black jewel has stolen all of Wario's treasure and you have to get it back and stop the evil jewel. Basic video game fare.

Levels: 9

The levels are very well designed. At first, I thought it would be like Kirby 64 where it looks 3D but it's really not, but Nintendo opted for 3D for this game. The levels are full of secrets and hidden shortcuts and are pretty fun to play through.

Size: 5

This is where the game takes the big hit. If you only care about beating the game, you could do it in a few hours. The game only has four main levels with two sub levels and a major boss battle, not very long. But if you want to collect everything, it does add a couple of hours to the game's lifespan.

Control: 9

The controls are very easy to get used to. I found myself doing all of Wario's moves within a few seconds of playing the game. There isn't a move in this game that I think is a problem to execute.

Replay Value: 7

Once you beat the game, there isn't much else to do. You could always go back and complete all the objectives for each level, but that's about it.

Fun Factor!: 8

The game is pretty fun for how long it lasts. The levels are a blast to go through, the bosses are fun to beat, and the objectivies add replay to the game.

Overall: 8

If you're a platform fan, this is defintely a good pickup. If you're not really into the platform genre, I would recommend giving it a rent to see how you like it. You may be able to beat the game during the rental period anyway.
