This game is pretty simple. Basically, it’s a fishing game invented by a fishing company, Zebco. Pretty much all you do in it is go fishing and try to catch fish, primarily Bass. There’s a Tournament mode, where you have a limited time to get as high of a ranking as possible. There’s also a Blackjack mode, where you have to catch 21 pounds of Bass without going over. That’s pretty much all.
Ratings are based on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is atrocious, 5 is average, 10 is excellent. Now get ready for a surprise…
Graphics: 3/10
Even for a GBC game, the graphics aren’t that great. Most SNES games have better graphics than this, folks. I know the GBC isn’t going to get that good, but they still could’ve done a better job than this. Although this isn’t one of the categories I use in determining the final score of the game, the graphics are pretty bad nonetheless.
Sound/Music: 1/10
Uh… yeah. There isn’t really any music in this game, and none of the sound effects are that good either. I also don’t like the announcer, so I’m afraid I must give this game my lowest score here.
Difficulty: 10/10
Catching fish is pretty difficult in this game. Whenever you get a bite, you have to push B to hook the fish. You’ll only hook the fish about 25 percent of the time. The other 75 percent of the time, you’ll just pull the line towards you. And once you’ve hooked a fish, about 30 percent of the time it will get away or break the line. The Tournament and Blackjack modes are just plain frustrating. In Blackjack mode, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a Blackjack; I’ve always busted. And in Tournament Mode, the highest rating I’ve gotten is Amateur (the lowest rating you can get). So, yes, this game is hard.
Gameplay: 1/10
Meh. This game is terrible in this category. Like I said, it takes luck and skill to catch fish, which is pretty much the main thing in gameplay. The different lures don’t have much of an effect on the fish you catch.
Replay Value: 5/10
Replaying this game is pretty much all you do. However, I can’t imagine playing this game again, so it gets my average score.
Size: 1/10
Zebco Fishing is also a joke in this category, pretty much. There are only two lakes to choose from, only three different modes, and only four different types of fish you can catch. The result is a VERY tiny game.
Fun Factor!: 1/10
Do you call a horribly made, very hard, extremely small, and just plain very bad game fun? Some people do, but I know I don’t. However, if you are a Zebco fan who goes fishing and plays video games and does nothing else in life, this game just might be fun enough to be terrible, as opposed to atrocious.
Recommendation: 1/10
Nothing doing. I wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone even as a rent, let alone buying it. With more 1/10’s than just about any game I’ll ever review, Zebco Fishing just proves it’s a bad game, and probably the worst game ever in the history of Earth.
Overall: You guessed it… 1/10
Anyone, and I mean ANYONE that buys this game, or even rents it, needs their head examined at the hospital emergency room. Even people who love fishing games to death should stay away from this. It makes no difference to me how big of a Zebco fan you are. You could be named the world’s biggest Zebco fan and you still should not play this game.
Now, if only there was someone I could sell my Zebco Fishing game cartridge to…
