Wario World Review

By Ludwig 222

Well, it's about time Wario got his own adventure for the GameCube. He's been in some Gameboy adventures and now he's finally got a game for the GameCube! But is it good or bad? Read on the find out. Yes, everything still graded on a 0-4 star scale.

Graphics: ****

The graphics are great for the GameCube. There is no blurriness or anything like that. The water, sand, and coins are very nice looking. Great job here!

Sound/Music: ****

If there's one thing better than the graphics, it's the music. The music is very catchy in my opinion. Take the music from Wonky Circus, Beanstalk Way, Mirror Mansion, or Pecan Sands, which all have the best music in my opinion. The music is some of the best I've ever heard. Some of the music for the boss battles is great as well. Wario's voice is very good too, by the way.

Difficulty: 1/2

This game is waaay too easy. You'll have no trouble beating the game. None at all. By the time you reach the second level, you'll probably have 500-1000 coins already. None of the enemy attacks can do more than a heart of damage, and even if you lose all your hearts in the middle of a level, you'll only have to pay around 200-500 coins to continue. A lot more than 500 coins can be found by going through just one level. The final boss (an evil black jewel) is a piece of cake. It only has three attacks that are easy to avoid and take only a 1/2 heart of damage! The only thing that can actually be a challenge are those platform levels (the ones you get to using steel trapdoors). Some can be tough cookies, actually, but that's the only hard thing in the game. Everything else is too easy.

Controls: ****

The controls are very responsive. I've never had a problem with the controls. They're very easy to use. Even the camera in the trapdoor levels is responsive. In those levels, the camera is easy because you choose the camera angle you want and it will stay like that. It's a ton better than a camera that can move when you do (Super Mario Sunshine-style).

Characters: *

The enemies you fight here are losers. None of them are really all that interesting. The bosses are okay, I guess, but it doesn't boost the rating a lot. The only thing I like about the regular enemies is they look different depending on the environment but are exactly the same otherwise, which is sort of neat. Even so, nearly all the enemies are losers.

Levels: ***

The levels themselves are very complex, and I like them because of that. But the main problem is that there are not enough levels. Eight levels?! Please! The SNES could probably hold that much! There's no excuse for having so few levels. The levels are very long, but still, I'm sure the GameCube can hold much more.

Despite that one problem, the levels themselves are great. It's just there are not enough of them. The levels are very complex and very long, which is excellent. I really like these levels, but I wish there were more of them. I also like the underground puzzles and the platform jumping levels. So, I really like all the levels, but there are not enough of them.

Replayability: no stars

A very short game with no replayability. Once you collect all the treasures in the levels (which doesn't take a long time) I doubt you'll ever play it again. If it was even a little longer, maybe I'd play it a little more, but it's too short to be worth playing again. This category severely hurts the overall score.

Fun Factor!: **1/2

While the game may be short, I didn't say it wasn't fun. It's still not totally fun though. Unithorn's Lair in the later levels is very frustrating at times because the walkways are thin and the Unithorns can annoy you to death. Two or three of the platform levels are frustrating as well, but that's all.

Overall: **

Wario World is not that great a game. It's way too easy, plus it's VERY short. Those two problems are huge, and are the only two real problems with Wario World. If the game was twice as large, I'd enjoy it much more. Otherwise, it's okay, but it's NOT worth $50. No way. It's not worth $25 either. It's $20 at the most, but if you want to just play the game, it's only worth a rent.
