Platform: Gamecube
Rated: E for everyone
Publisher: Nintendo
I will rate this on a scale of 1-10, 1 meaning don't even bother. Just like Game Sauce on GSN Videogames!
Graphics: 10
If you thought Kirby Crystal Shards had the best graphics of the series, think again! Unlike Kirby 64, you can go by your own view (in Air Ride and City Trial). You don't have to use their camera like in Kirby 64, where some angles could mess you up. Also, I'd like to mention that when you pause, you can use the C-Stick to see under you, over you, etc. You'll notice some stars look good on you and some, well, don't.
Sound/Music: 9
The music I didn't have to complain about, except one freaky song. It was like a horror song. I thought the Alien music would fit into the UFO event well. I'll get into the events later.
Controls: 9
Here's where most of the complaining is. Many people think it's all just the A button. But some stars are hard to control. You have to steer also. The game doesn't do everything itself! To boost you hold on to A and let go when you get to the top of the energy tank. Control stick to steer. Spin around to use spin attack. In the air: down to go up, up to go down. Anywhere: A to boost, and A to suck in enemies. I'll explain the Kirby modes below, since some of them have different controls.
Fire Kirby: Press A to throw fire. Fire
on his head. Suck in the bird that breaths fire.
Ice Kirby: Press A to Ice. Guess what!
Ice Climber Kirby! Suck in the snowmen.
Tornado Kirby: Spin attack to make
a stronger spin attack. Tornado on head. Suck in an ant-like enemy with
a tornado around it.
Flight Kirby: Just a good flyer. Mohawk
on head, wings. Suck in a bird.
Sword Kirby: Run into people to hit
them. Link Kirby. Suck in a warrior on a snowboard.
Plasma Kirby: Move stick around to
charge up. Press A to use your Shock, the best is the Big Ball of Light.
Spiky yellow hair. Suck in a messed up electricity guy.
Spiky Kirby: press A to let out your
spikes. Spiky head. Suck up spiked balls.
Wheel Kirby: Run over people! A wheel,
duh. Suck up a wheel.
Sleepy Kirby: Sleeps and automatically
kills minions and makes other racers fall asleep. Sleep hat and bubbles.
Suck up a sleeping enemy.
Music Kirby: Yells and sings. Microphone
and headphones. Suck in a microphone.
Bomb Kirby: Has a bomb that you press
A to throw. Has a blue Santa hat. Suck in a bomb mobile.
You can also just look for a symbol on their head.
Characters: 5
Kirby (press X or Y to change color). You can also unlock Meta Knight and King DeeDeeDee. They could've had more.
Difficulty: depends
I've heard some people say that the computers can't catch up to you. Those people may not have that much common sense. Just tell them to put the computer on level 5!
Records: 10
Like beating records? Then beat all 360 in this game! Maybe even 480, but that's a mode where you need two GameCubes.
Stars: 10
Okay, here are the stars you can choose.
Warpstar: Average, average, average.
It looks like a star.
Compact Star: Good turning, but a tad
slow. And it looks like a weird star.
Shadow Star: Speedy in air and a powerful
hit! It looks like (didn't see this coming) a flat bat.
Winged Star: Fast in the air, but can't
catch up well on ground. It looks like an airplane.
Jet Star: Fast in the air but 3mph
on ground! It looks like a jet with cool designs.
Formula Star: Go off the boost and
be flying just like the thing it looks like, a shiny torpedo.
Rocket Star: Top speed, slow, but boosts
give it power! Looks like a shoe with a zipper on it and a blue ball on
the back.
Bulk Star: Charges are its fuel. It's
looks like a lawnmower.
Turbo Star: Fast! When it wants to
be... Doesn't cooperate all the time. It looks like a sports sneaker with
rocket boosts on the back.
Swerve Star: The only way to turn is
to first stop. It looks like an upside-down pyramid.
Slick Star: Not the best at turning.
It looks Like a painted pancake with sugar balls next to it.
Wheelie Bike: Fast, and easy to control,
good pick, good pick. It looks like a unicycle with an eye.
Wheelie Scooter: Style, style. Slow,
but you look good on it! It looks like a scooter that has (Did I tell you?)
good style.
Rex Wheelie: It's fast, but very few
can handle the speed. It looks like a T-Rex.
Wagon: Can't charge, but good points.
It looks like a pink wagon with Chinese symbols painted on it.
Modes: 10:
There are three unique, very fun modes.
Air Ride: Ride in a player view mode,
with special 3D effects like you're really there!
Top Ride: Short laps, but very special
and fun events happen.
City Trial: You break boxes to get
weapons, power-ups, and star pieces to help with unique stadium games after
the 3-7 minutes, like Drag Racing and Destruction Derby. You can hold on
to A and press down to get off a star and walk on to one to get on it.
There are also weird events happening in the city. I'll list them below.
Meteor Shower: Find shelter! Meteors
come raining down, and they're more powerful than bombs! Creepy music,
fits the event well.
City Light House: A light turns on
at a lighthouse. You go in it and, uh oh, you regain your health! Cartoonish
music.
Pillar: Bust a pillar and power-ups
come out. Alien music.
Fire: Most unfair, you're riding on
the big rail and all of a suddon, the event says the rail stations (where
you get off or on) are on fire! If you go near it, bye bye to your star,
go find a new one, which should be about 40 second away. No, really! The
music I hate, creeps me out, more then meteors.
Charge Tank: Most fun! You are all
super hyper and go super fast and it's just neat. You can also get items
for these. Disco music.
UFO: Get on top of the UFO and get
items. Same music as fire.
Flight Team: My second favorite event!
Five minions fly high above you. That's all. I just like the music.
Dyna Blade, the giant bird: Bird whose
face reminds me of Spyro. I like the music, and to attack her, hit her
head, like the Koopa Kids! Except she's so big, you have to fly.
The Chamber in the Castle Opens: A
chamber opens and in it are ten of the same power-up.
Tac Steels Items: Jazz music, you have
to hit Tac, who stole Items. He likes hiding.
Bouncing Items: Items bounce. Evan
boxes!
Power-ups Are Fakes: You can tell the
differance. They look differant, so keep your eye on what power-ups look
like.
Same Item: All boxes have the same
Item. Now wouldn't it be nice if it had all Star Pieces...
Dense Fog: A dense fog appears and
you can only see five inches in front of you. The music is a little creepy,
but sounds a little like SMB underground.
Tracks: 10 Each track is fun-filled with good music, especially Nebula Belt with that Star Wars hero-type music. One of the records gets new music to a track. I'll give some examples.
Air Ride:
Celestal Valley: It's a nice place,
with crystals and water and all sorts of stuff. You can evan go river rafting!
The eyeballs in the eggplant freak some people out.
Beanstalk Park: Adventurous music,
a lot of rails. In fact, you can't finish one lap without going on three
rails! There is also a Ferris wheel.
Checker Knights: The road is checkers,
there are many short cuts, and underwater is a casino. One question. You
can fly under water?!
Top Ride:
Sand: Fun place, there's a worm that
can eat you, a rock statue that can fall on you, a bridge that can fall,
and quicksand. A bit much for a 6 sec. per lap place.
Fire: Many shortcuts but hard to navigate.
Volcano blasts, bursts of air, a lot of things here.
Light: Three rails that can really
make a differance. This is one of the most action-like places.
Fun Factor!: 10
Definitely a FUN, underated game. This took me a lot of time when I could've been in the chatroom, so I hope this helps. My next Review should be MKDD, since I'm getting it this week.
Overall: 10
Anyone can enjoy this game. I hope most people rent it and tell what they think. This really is a nice game, and you should get it. The main point is to just win the races. I hope you enjoyed this Review.
