Animal Crossing Review

By Petey Piranha

This is a game for people who like very long games, because this game has no end. You may play and play but the only thing that will happen is holidays and mail (usually). You can also do things to your house like decorate and remodel (expand your home). There are also things like special appearances at this time on this date. It takes up something like 50 blocks on the memory card so you might want to consider getting a memory card 251. It’s a good game! (I will be rating this on a scale of 1-5 stars.)

Controls: *****

The controls are as simple as counting. A to talk or use your axe, net, shovel, or fishing line, also to confirm choices like almost all other games; control Stick to move, obviously; and if you hold B or R while walking you will run. Start brings up your inventory. that’s all there is to it.

Items: ***1/2

The items were cool because you could collect things like tin cans and fish out of rivers and ponds. You could catch bugs with your net and dig up things from the ground with your shovel. If you ask someone if they need help with something then they might give you a shirt or wallpaper for completing the task.

Characters: ****

The number of residents in your town depend on how well you keep your town. If you pull all the weeds and plant trees and flowers in your town then many people will move in. But, if you let all the weeds grow and chop down trees with your axe then people will move away. The residents are all animals except for you. You have a hat with horns if you’re a boy. You can have up to four humans living in your town but they are like files so you can never meet another human in the game. There is one person in your town at the start of the game who is mean and talks in a grumpy voice. There are animals galore!

Graphics: *

The graphics were horrendous since there was so much they included, from ripples in the water to the nails on your house. They were like 70-bit graphics on the GCN. Things like the noses didn’t stick out and there were large pixels. They weren’t very good at all.

Sound/Music: ****

There was obviously a lot of effort put into the sound because it sounded really clear. There was a town tune that would sound at the change of hour and whenever you speak to someone. There’s even a board near the post office where you can personalize your tune. Music plays everywhere you go and at night different music plays.

Gameplay: ***

This game has many things you need to accomplish before other things can happen. For example, when you first start the game, your shop owner, Tom Nook, will require you to do work and deliver items to the neighbors. You must also meet all the neighbors in town before you can start doing anything in the game. Sometimes there are contests that you can enter to win prizes like trophies and medals. There are little stars in the ground in many places and once you obtain the shovel you can dig in those spots and find items like chairs and even a NES! There are tons of things you can do.

Fun Factor: *****

This is really fun to play, all because of the neighbors. You can hit them with your net or do all their chores, so if you want them to leave your town then send them nasty letters and say no when they ask you to do a chore. You may do almost anything.

Overall: *****

You should definitely get this game if you have a GameCube because it is GREAT!!! I definitely recommend it to some one who is new to the GameCube. It’s fun, very very very long, and, uhhhhh, fun!
