Bigbadblake14 here for another Review. This one is Super Mario Advance. This game is a remake of the classic, Super Mario Brothers 2. Similar versions of this game can be played on the NES and SNES (as part of Super Mario All-Stars), as well as the Gameboy Advance.
Story: 9/10
The story is a LOT different from other Mario stories. Mario has a dream about some magical door, then the next day he wakes up and goes on a picnic. At the picnic, he spots the same door in his dream. Of course he walks up to it and POOF! He goes into another world called Sub-con. Now he has to save Sub-con from the evil Wart, who has possessed the land with baddies, OH NO. Toad, Peach, and Luigi join with Mario on this adventure. The reason for this story's high rating is because it's DIFFERENT from other Mario stories. For once, it's not about the princess getting kidnapped.
Controls: 8/10
The controls are so simple that a two-year-old could use them. A is to jump, and for opening doors as well, B is to pick up veggies and throw them at baddies, Start pauses the game, and if you hold Down on the D-Pad, you wait until the character flashes and press A to l do a super high jump. Very easy controls even, easier than Luigi's Mansion.
Music/Sound: 1/10
Now I thought Luigi's Mansion was as bad as it gets. I was WRONG. Ok, get this, the only MUSIC you hear is the common Super Mario Brothers 2 theme you hear in that one stage in SSBM Mushroom Kingdom II, the underground, and the boss theme. That's it, no other tunes. Also the sounds are horrifying. Ok, maybe not HORRIFYING, but pretty bad. Like when they jump and pull veggies, OH, it sounds very bad. Believe me, once you play this you won't wanna hear it. In fact, I always keep the volume down on my Gameboy Advance. I will rate this the worst music and sound in a game in Nintendo history (that I've played, of course).
Difficulty: 10/10
Now when I first bought this I thought to myself, "Hmmm, this looks pretty easy to me." But I was wrong. This game is very hard and frustrating. When you first play it in world one, that's even kinda hard for the first world of a game. But when you get to the Red Birdos, the game starts to get hard. They shoot both fireballs and eggs to make it harder. Then when you finally get to the GREEN Birdos it's very hard. They only shoot fireballs, no eggs, and you have to use Mushroom Blocks, sometimes even just one Mushroom Block, which makes it extremely hard. So now you see why it gets it's 10/10 rating.
Gameplay: 8/10
Of course, the main part of any game
is the gameplay. Ok, you use veggies to kill enemies, which I already said.
You sometimes have to ride on Shy Guys to get to certain parts of a level
underground, like a litle puzzle, oh I can't explain it. Sometimes you
ride on carpets or ride on Albatrosses. You do a lot of riding and gliding.
I also heard that you collect Yoshi Eggs or something. You collect A Coins
(Ace) in the game for 100%. You pull out Magic Potions which let you go
into Subspace, where you sometimes get Mushrooms to increase your life
meter. Mostly you get coins so you can use the slot machines for extra
lives. You go through seven worlds, which are each, fun, and unique.
Graphics: 6/10
Well... It's a NES game originally. You can't expect much from it in the graphics category. Well Mario looks pretty cool I guess, Peach looks more pink in her dress, and, well, Toad and Luigi look really cool. Well that's all I could come up with.
Overall: 8/10
This is a fun game. In fact I love it. Of course, it's not the best, but it's a great game. I would pay at the most $35 for this. This is a great game and I like it, and I would suggest it to someone who likes hard but fun action/adventure games.
