Excitebike 64 Review

By Yoshi kid

A GAME WITH WIPEOUTS... WORKS FOR ME!

Easter! Easter, Easter, Easter. A fine holiday for having fun, and going places. Well I got a basket of games (4). Not too bad, I said to myself. Then, out of the blue (blue Easter grass), I found Excitebike 64! Yes! I love these game where you can make people wipeout! This racing game has you go through uncharted terrain, and even... Spain! This game will be rated on a 0-4 star scale, with 4 meaning must get and 0 means horrifiying.

Music: *

The music is not that interesting. First, you have the indoor/outdoor music. Then, you have the jungle music. Two?! Geez! Well at least the music is a little interesting, but don't expect to find yourself "jammin'" to the music.

Gameplay: ***

Very fun. The environments are really great and add to the experience. Then you have the announcer guy. He's funny sometimes. Racing often seems like a battle because you progress through the courses by knocking others guys off and leaving them in your dust. It does get boring, but you'll be back in the game in no time!

Characters: ****

They are so fun to play! You have "Jumping" Jim Rivers, Sharah "Sugar" Hill, Vicky "The Vixen" Steel, Bobby "Big Dog" Malone, "Tricky" Ricky Stern, and Nigel "The Duke" York. They have their ups and downs about riding a bike like a normal person does. They don't talk, but they sorta have personalities. I don't know if they are real peoplem or no,t the names are that convincing. They even have bios! The characters are just pure genius.

Difficulty: **1/2

Great. Just perfect for your skills, but it's still a little hard. So it kinda takes a leap in the difficulty somewhere.

Tricks: 1/2

These are so hard to do it ruins the tricks' fun factor. Example: L + < + This little yellow dot that looks like it says y. I don't see a y on the controller. Do you? Thought so. Y oh y oh y.

Graphics: ***

These are good above-average graphics that are great in a lot of places in the game when you need them, like around sharp turns. I can't help seeing that it's not really 3D. Some turns make the rider or bike pixely. That doesn't keep the rating down that much. Bottom line is they are good.

Unlockables: *1/2

They are just some codes that are pretty cool. You can also unlock the original Excitebike, and Soccer. Soccer isn't fun. Original Excitebike is boring. The unlockables are boring to under average.

Replayability: ***

You'll come back a lot. Not every day, but yes, very often. It does get old sometimes, but who cares? It's fun so you'll come back.

Fun Factor!: ***

Very fun to play by yourself, or at a friend's house. Like I said, it does get boring, but not with the instant replay.

OVERALL: ***

Very fun game to play, to hug, to love. Just kidding about the love. This is really fun. Still, the gameplay and courses do get boring. Pick it up at the $20 line, or under.

If you like games with wipeouts, pick it up! Just good clean excitement... sometimes. Nintendo ran to home with this game... in the first inning. Good job Nintendo!
