Soul Calibur 2 Review

By King Boo

This is an excellent fighting game. The prequel, Soul Calibur, was released on Dreamcast. You can play Soul Calibur 2 at an arcade, or on GameCube, PS2, and Xbox. I will be doing a Review on the Xbox version. I will be rating the sections on a scale of 0-10. Now, on with the Review!!!

Rated: Teen (The game shows some skin and a few costumes some younger children might say "Eww!!!" at, but most costumes are appropriate. There are a few curses though, but hardly any.)
# of Players: 1-2 simultaneously

Graphics: 9 1/2

Very realistic humans, creatures, and expressions. At times you might see some little spots that are a bit blocky but this will be rare if ever.

Gameplay: 10

There is Arcade mode, Practice mode, Time Attack mode, Survival mode, Weapon Master, and many more!

Arcade mode is where you pick a character and experience their story of why they want to get Soul Calibur or Soul Edge. At the 7th battle your character meets up with another character and has to fight them, for personal reasons, or because they're in your way.

In Practice mode, you practice! (Duh.) You can attack a jumping, evading, attacking, or running computer. You can also set the computer's difficulty. This mode is good if you want to fight a computer or friend without health or if you want to practice moves.

Time Attack mode is when you K.O. your opponent as fast as you can. Survival is almost the same as Time Attack, except it has a never-ending stream of opponents.

Weapon Master is where you go on a journey and travel through lands, fighting opponents and collecting weapons. Each battle has a certain condition such as defeat the opponent with a ring out.

There are still more modes in SC2!!! I'm not going to spoil all of them.

Music and Sound: 7 3/4

The characters have voices! Before a battle, the characters say their taunt and then you fight. The music very well fits the stage and situation you are in. However, sometimes the sound effects can get very annoying because it is the same every time. But, the music in the stages helps with that. You can also set the characters' voices to Japanese. This only affects the voices, not anything else. The music and sound got a pretty good score despite the repetitive sounds.

Controls: 8 1/2

The controls are pretty simple. A is guard, K is kick, B is vertical attack, and X is horizontal attack.

Variety: 9 3/4

This section almost got a perfect score, except there could have been a few more stages. But the characters… WOAH!!! INCOMING!!! WHAM!!! So many different characters, with different weapons too! Tons of variety with weapons, too! Each person has quite a couple of weapons to choose from, each with different weaknesses, strengths, and appearance, from whips to swords, and magical orbs to elbow blades. There’s a whole lot of variety! Each system has one special character. GameCube has Link, PS2 has Heihachi, and Xbox has Spawn. There are also a lot of difficulty levels.

Replayability: 10

This game has no end. You can play as many times as you want! And you will want to! This is a never-ending game!

Overall: 10+

This game is a MUST HAVE!!! It will have a special place in your mind and will leave tons of memories! Play with your friends all the time! This game will be a special one! So buy it… NOW! Have fun playing it!
