I'm rating on a scale of one to ten, to be more specific with my ratings. One means it's awful and ten means it's awesome!
Story: 6.2
It is pretty much the same as Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. Professor Oak asks you to fill up the Pokedex, a high-tech encyclopedia, while competing against your all-time rival. You have to catch and train wild Pokemon to take on rival trainers and fill up your Pokedex. Okay, there is some new stuff as well. You have some new islands with certain Pokemon you can't get in Kanto. There are also parts of the game where you have to read brail (hooray). All it does is explain what some stuff does when you probably already know by the time you get to the brail.
There is one thing that really annoys me. When you win against a bad guy, they may swear enternal vengance on you just because you beat up their pet. It's just stupid.
Controls: 10
The controls are pretty much the same as in the other Pokemon games. The control pad lets you select an action or item, move around, etc. The A button lets you confirm a choice and the B button lets you run around (when you get the running shoes) or cancel a choice or evolution.
Graphics: 4.3
Outside of battle everything is still 8-bit graphics, but you can see some difference in height or shape. In battle, some pokemon that are also in Ruby and Sapphire were redrawn. Most Pokemon in the game were. Some look better and some look worse. Attacks are the same as in Ruby/Sapphire so nothing exciting.
Sound: 8.4
The sound is improved off of all the games and you'll be a little surprised. When a Pokemon jumps you in a cave or tall grass, you hear more of a surprising sound. They mostly remixed sound from older games but it does sound better.
Gameplay: 3.5
I took off a lot of points because almost all the content of the games is recycled from the original Red, Blue, and Yellow games. If you have played them, you know what to expect. Like I said, there are some new islands with Pokemon you can't get in Kanto. That gives a bit of surprise to those who played Red, Blue, and Yellow. The game is very long, though. Not only do you have to become the most powerful trainer, you can catch every single pokemon (yes, all 351). In this game, that could take years.
Overall: 7.1
Overall, these games seems very similar to Red, Blue, and Yellow. The games come with tons of features for beginning trainers, so if you're new to Pokemon, you might want to buy one of these games first. If you are insane about Pokemon, you're probably going to buy these games without a thought. For those who want to become the ultimate Pokemon Master, you might want to buy both and find out all the secrets in the games...
