YOU' VE NEVER PLAYED TENNIS LIKE THIS BEFORE!
Graphics: 9/10
Beautiful graphics! Maybe not the best graphics the GameCube has ever seen, but they are still pretty good. The characters look very good, and the powershots look amazing! Still, some of the background graphics are pretty bad, like the audience in the Peach Dome. It looks flat, litterally.
Controls: 9/10
The controls are pretty basic. Anyone can easily adapt to them in just a matter of minutes. Of course, moves such as lob shots and drop shots are bit tricky to perform sometimes, but overall they are very easy, and since you'll mostly be using the A and B buttons you should have no trouble mastering them.
Music: 7/10
This is one of the lacking points in the game. While some of the music is actually very good, some of it is just downright boring and repetitive. It would have been better if they would have added more cheerful music. Ah well, not all games are perfect, I suppose.
Sound: 10/10
Now this makes up for the game's music. The sounds and expressions the characters make are hilarious! They also have funny taunting poses, in wich the character either cheers or teases their opponent. The sound in this game provides so much humor that you'll always want to laugh or at least smile when playing it. The only sound I don't like is Shy Guy's irritating voice. Ugh! Other than that, the sound is flawless.
Characters: 5/10
This is another one of the game's lacking points. Most of the characters are the same ones that appeared in the first Mario Tennis. Mario, Luigi, Peach, yawn... They need to add someone new, like Jr. Troopa, or the Koopalings. The default characters are the same ones from the first Mario Tennis, with the addition of Diddy Kong and Bowser Jr. Also some characters like Shy Guy, who used to be secret, are now default. Another thing I didn't like were the secret characters. With the exception of Petey Pirahna, they are all generic characters and I hate them all! But what annoyed me the most was that Birdo and Toad got kicked out of the game. They were my favorite characters, snivel.
Fun Factor!: 10/10
Although the game may have its own share
of flaws, it's a darn fun and addictive game. Even non-tennis fans should
be able to enjoy it. The many modes in the game offer some great variety,
including some features that will keep you entertained for months! There
is the tournament mode, where you compete against computer characters to
win trophies. There's the exhibition mode, which is rather fun and allows
you to practice or compete against your own friends. There's also an extremely
entertainig mini-game mode that'll
keep you hooked for hours! Overall,
this game reeks of fun.
Difficulty: 10/10
Now this is what I call a HARD game. Sure, it may be easy the first time you play it through, but just try beating EVERYTHING in the game. With EVERY SINGLE character. Heh heh! Good luck with that!
Replayability: 10/10
This is a party game, so you're bound to play it for a loooooooong time from now.The thrills won't last forever, but it should be good for a while. And if you get bored with it, just wait for while and soon you'll be dying to give the game a second go. If you have friends to play it with you might just end up playing this game forever, seriously.
Recommendation: 9/10
This game is so fun and addicting, I'd recommend it to pretty much everybody. Even non-tennis fans. Of course if you're a fan of tennis then you should definitely go to the nearest video game store and get a copy. If you live far away from civilization and don't have anyone to play it with, then you should probably just rent it. This game is more fun if you're playing it with friends.
Overall: 8/10
I haven't played many tennis games, but of the few I've played this one is probably the coolest. It's simply great! But it could've been better.
