Star Wars Rebellion Review

By MarioFanaticXV

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

The battle of Yavin (fight between the Rebels and the first Death Star) has just ended, and both the Rebels and the Imperials need a new Grand Admiral... Which do you choose?

Controls: 10/10

Very simple, yet not oversimplified. You only need a two button mouse, the Ctrl key, and the Shift key to play. Very easy to get used to.

Graphics: 7.7/10

The graphics are pretty much just still pictures, and the space battles don't used very detailed models, especially with the fighters (smaller ships, like the X-wings and TIE fighters). So how did it get more then the 4.7 that it deserves? Cutscenes, they are excellent. Whether you're watching the Rebels storm the Imperial capital world of Corascunt, watching the Death Star annihilate a rebel base, or even watching the destruction of a Death Star, the cutscenes rule. My personal favorite? Play as the Imperials and lose, and a spider-like robot tries to kill you with all kinds of weapons, only to be crushed by your ship as it falls apart! If the whole game was as good as the cutscenes, I'd have to give it a ten.

Difficulty: ?/10

If you're playing against an AI opponent, the difficulty lies in the below average range. However, when you get against another person, you'll find that the difficulty is just as variable as a game of chess. Really, it's a battle of the brains, with just a little bit of luck thrown in, so the difficulty all depends on your opponent.

Sound: 10/10

The classic sound of blasters, the voices of six famous characters, plus the sounds of your advisors constantly bothering you, all are perfectly executed. As if that wasn't enough, the music cycles through the Star Wars main theme appropriately, making this game practically require speakers or headphones.

Gameplay: 10/10

As with most games, Rebellion starts out kind of slow. You start out simply being diplomatic and trying to get manufacturing plants, mines, and refineries out. But this quickly changes, as you have swarms of X-wings taking on Imperial Star Destroyers, or have your Death Stars keeping local systems in line. Once the first major battle between you and your opponent starts, you can be sure that battles like it will occur frequently throughout the rest of the game!

Replayability: 10/10

Never the same game twice. Even if you can't find a human opponent, you could always try playing on a harder difficulty, try mocking the computer by getting every planet but their base, play with a different size galaxy, or, of course, try playing as either side. The possibilities are endless... and for some real fun, try getting out multiple Death Stars!

Overall: 9.8/10

Never a dull game, not to mention my second favorite PC game of all time. This game has it all: plenty of strategy, endless replayability, excellent cutscenes, amazingly in-depth methods of controlling the galaxy, a huge variety of ships to choose from, Star Wars characters galore, and music that never gets old! If you hate Star Wars, you'll still probably want to try this game. It's that good...
