Story: 10/10
A very well written and in depth plot. It starts out trying to fool the player into thinking the game will be the same old rescue the princess routine, but quickly develops into a web of mysteries for you to untangle. Bowser captures the princess as usual, and then right as Mario is about to rescue her, a giant sword falls into Bowser's Keep, sending Mario flying. After finding that there is no way back into the Keep, Mario has to go to the Mushroom Chancellor only to find the place under attack by a giant pogo stick named Mack. Mack claims to work for a mysterious "Smithy Gang". After this, Mario, along with a friendly tadpole named Mallow, must set out on a brand new adventure to discover and stop this new evil.
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics in this game were well ahead of their time. In my opinion, these graphics would have been considered above average even on the Nintendo 64. The storyline is aided greatly by the graphics, and humor is thrown in along the way. Even now, with modern systems, the graphics still are impressive.
Sound: 10/10
Excellent sound effects, original music, classical tunes; all of it is pure ear candy. Not only are there classic Mario themes in certain parts of the game, but there are also tons of unforgettable original pieces of music. If only they had surround sound at the time.
Gameplay: 10/10
Not only is the main adventure a long and enjoyable one, but there are also many sub-quests and mini-games. Whether you're making Goombas into mud, catching beetles to sell to Snifits, fighting against the toughest ant alive, shooting Koopa shells down with a bug, fighting the boss of Final Fantasy 3, or trying to perfect the Super Jump, you'll never run out of things to do. The possiblities are endless!
Overall: 10/10
I've no doubt in my mind that this is the greatest video game ever. The game has endless challenges, incredible graphincs, amazing sound effects, and a story that you'll never want to end... The greatest video game ever!
