SSX 3 Review

By Bam

Console: PS2, X-Box, and GameCube
Price: Used to be 40 Pounds ($50), but now it's 20 Pounds (about $20 to $30)
Genre: Sports (snowboarding)

The scale is from 0 (the worst!) to 100 (simply the  best!) The ratings are for the PS2 version.

This is a proper sequel, not a remake like SSX Tricky, which pleased  me.

Graphics: 91

The designers (EA Sports BIG) have done a great job with everything! They have also put in a lot of effect as well (e.g, leaving a mark in the snow where you have been riding). It's eye candy!

Music: 95

The music here was fantastic! The tunes are generally Hip-Hop and Rock. These songs may put you off your CDs for a while, and they beat the Mario tunes easily!

Sound Effects: 80

Unlike SSX 1, you can understand all the characters (except Kaiori, but then again, she is Japanese). There is also a DJ making announcements - some are relevant, some are not (e.g, the "Orange Cat Inc") depending where you are. The sound  effects are pretty good as well.

Gameplay: I'll split this into the three parts below.

Racing: 83

This is the most fun event, but is also the easiest unless youare going for the platinum medal (beat a certain time in the final). Basically, you race down the track, doing tricks to get boosts, and there are also some shortcuts along the way.

Freestyle: This subsection is split into the next three parts.

Slopestyle: 73
Less fun than the race events, but they have a wide range ofdifficulty. (Bronze is a cakewalk while platinum is MURDER!) The courses are similar to the race courses but there are more rails, ramps, and stuff like that. There is also point icons and point multipliers (the multipliers are essential if you want a good score).

Super Pipe: 62
Super Pipe is not super, but it's ok. You just basically hold down the right buttons at the right time. There are point icons (but no multipliers), and there are three pipes in the later levels.

BIG Air: 79
The most fun Freestyle event, but it's also the shortest. There are a few huge ramps to twist and grab for as long as you can (without crashing, obviously!). There are point icons throughout the levels as  well.

BIG Challenges: 80

These, in my opinion, are the hardest part of the game (especially a slalom set of challenges in "The Gravitator"). Most of the challenges aren't too hard. You can find these by freeriding through the courses.

Difficulty: 78

This was a tough one to decide as sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's murder.

Lifespan: 85

It took me a long time to unlock and buy everything, but it doesn't make up for the next section, which may surprise you...

Replay Value: 34

When I had another go a month later, I was bored within an hour! *sigh* Pity that!

OVERALL: Drumroll, please... The overall score is... 82!

In spite of its  horrendous  replay value, I think it's a great game! I highly recommend it to those who like skateboarding or snowboarding games. If not, I'd still recommend getting it :P
