Super Mario Advance 4 Review

By Bogmire

My second Review will be on Super Mario Advance 4 for the GBA. It is a remake of Super Mario Bros 3, just so you know. I'm sure what you're all thinking, that the story is about the princess geting kidnapped by Bowser, blah... blah... blah... And you're right! But this time, each of Bowser's seven Koopalings have stolen the wands of seven kings. It's up to you to get the wands back, restore peace to the land, and of course save the princess. Now, on with the Review! This game will be rated on a scale of 1-8 for the number of lands in the game. 1 is terrible and 8 is perfect. (Note, difficulty and Mario Bros. scores aren't included in the final score.)

Gameplay: 7

It is basically just going through numerous sidescrolling levals. In the levels you collect power-ups and bash enemies like Goombas and Koopa Troopas. Each of the worlds is on a map. The map includes things such as Toad Houses (where you can get items to store for later use), fortresses (where you fight the boss Boom Boom at the end), and doomships. The doomships are automatic scrolling levals and at the end you fight a Koopaling. In the 8th world, however, you fight Bowser. The only problem is that you can't go back to worlds you already beat.

Sound: 5

Not the best sound effects I've ever heard. Sound effects such as Mario kicking a Koopa or bashing a block remains the same as in the NES version. The thunder effects were good though. I think Nintendo could have done better. They could have had things like footstep noises for when Mario walks.

Music: 8

Very good music. Possibly the best soundtrack I ever heard. The music is upbeat and memerable. One of the songs in the game is a remix of the original Super Mario Bros. underground music.

Graphics: 7

This game has very good graphics. It is a great improvement from Super Mario Bros. 3 on the NES. I especially liked the desert, the pyramids and sand were very rich in detail. New backgrounds have been added in some levels, and the doomships are now on a stormy night with thunder and lightning, unlike the old game, where it was daytime with no detail in the sky whatsoever.

Value: 5

If you're a beginner, this game could last you a long time, considering that there are 90 levals in 8 worlds. But if you are an advanced player like me you can zip through this game in seven hours, beating every level
and not skipping any. The sad part is that when you beat the game, there is nothing to do except improve your score. Which would be pretty pointless anyway.

Fun Factor!: 8

This game is probably the best game ever made, it so much fun! That Miyamoto guy must have some kind of magic in him. I just love classic sidescrolling Mario games! This a game that you will remember 50 years from
now.

Mario Bros: 0

It's just like the classic arcade version of Mario Bros, where you defeat enemies to make it to the next phase. But it is so... boring and *yawn* repetitive...

Difficulty: 3

This is an easy game, maybe even a little easy for beginners. It's so easy for a player like me that you could ask me to beat a level in world 8, and I'd beat it no problem on one life.

Overall: 8

This is a remake of the best game ever, and if you've got $30, BUY IT, OR ELSE. Who cares about the mediocre sound effects?! This game is PERFECT!
